>> reporter: the mtsb on the scene. southwest says it is devastated and it has expressed its deepest sympathies to the family of the woman who lost her life. lindsey janice, abc news, philadelphia. >> a few hours ago southwest's ceo spoke and extended his condolence to jennifer rearden's family. >> this is very sad day, and on behalf of the entire southwest family, i want to extend my deepest sympathies for the family and the loved ones of the deceased customer. >> gary cellar also said the airline is fully cooperating with the faa and mtsb's investigation. earlier this morning wells fargo commented on the death of their employee on that flight, releeing a statement saying in quote, she was a well-known leader he was loved and respected. we extend our deepest sympathies

to her family and friends. passengers on other southwest flights in the bay area are reacting to this news. some passengers say they felt a bit conflicted about flying. >> a little uneasy. but i think everybody would be hearing this situation. so you get on the flight and you hope that the airlines is taking care of what they need to take care of. >> southwest has 500 737 700s in its fleet, the type of plane that was involved in this incident. we'll have much more ahead. a 20-year san francisco police veteran is in the hospital after being hit by a car. we're told he is alert and conscious. the hit-and-run happened this afternoon. a short time later police

arrested a woman. >> reporter: police spotted a black mercedes without plates. the type of car which witnesses say struck the officer. they stopped the vehicle at 26 avenue on california street and arrested this woman who was behind the wheel. sergeant eric mahoney told us the driver said very little. >> the only statement i heard her say was questioning why we were taking her into custody. but there's going to be an inspector side of the case who i'm sure after miranda and all that will have time to interview her. >> reporter: iwas here at eddy and larken. the officer was hit by the black mercedes as he was walking across the street. witnesses tell police the driver sped off after the incident. sources tell abc 7 news the officer was in plain clothes working on an investigation into the tenderloin when he was struck. he was taken to san francisco

general hospital. sources there tell us he suffered injuries to his elbow and leg and possibly to his back. the same source says his condition is listed as serious but stable. >> san francisco police are looking for a man suspected of animal abuse. police released this video today showing a fight that broke out in a store. it shows a man and woman having an argument. at one point he grabs the 4 month old cocker spaniel and slams it to the floor. the dog did not survive. the suspect has been identified as 23-year-old -- he's wanted on felony, animal cruelty and other charges. authorities are trying to determine the cause of a five alarm fire that damaged multiple units of a san jose apartment complex. take a look at cellphone video of flames leaping from the apartments around 6:00 this morning. fire crews arrived a short time

released a cease and desist order. today the board of supervisors took their first vote on the ordinance. sfmta will work on the rule, and it'll come back to the board for a final vote. pes peskin says at some point he'd like to ride the scooters. >> all of the other businesses have to follow laws and pay their taxes, and as new industries innovate, it's not fair to everybody else whose paying taxes and having regulation for them not to be part of that. >> reporter: both city leaders agree scooters are a viable transportation solution if regulated. the five-acre home of the lafayette crosses can now legally be sold. it was put up in 2006 in honor of the service members. however, six years ago the woman who owns the property died.
