15 officers watched as he worked from his garage, and then moving in when he walked to his sidewalk. deangelo who was home alone appeared surprise. >> really no conversation at all. just the only thing he really said was he had a roast in the oven. >> tonight some neighbors saying the man accused live with family and had a temper. he claims he had multiple run ins with deangelo including a threatening call over his barking dog. >> if you don't shut that dog up i'll deliver a load of death. >> reporter: deangelo recently retired from his job at the distribution center. and he was a police officer reportedly fired in 199 for shoplifting dog repellent and a hammer. >> i'll kill you. >> reporter: the golden state killer known for taunting his

victims. >> he asked in a very harsh whisper like do you want to die, do you want me to kill your >> reporter: margaret believed to be the youngest victim, just 13 at the time. multiple law enforcement sources close to this investigation tell us that critical dna technology is brand new, maybe only five years old and they also used ge geneology websites. >> prosecutors confirmed they helped track him down from websites that contain information from a relative of his. investigators painstakingly collected at a crime scene years ago to genetic profiles on

various web sites. they then followed clues through the individual family trees to determine whether they were suspects. investigators realized deangelo might be a suspect. they setup surveillance on him and got his dna from something he threw away. >> since so much time has passed deangelo may end up escaping some of the charges. >> abc 7 reporter david louie explains how some 50 rape victims may not see resolution. >> reporter: until recently the statute of limititations for rape was ten years, a change in the law that took effect at the start of last year removed the time limit. however, it is not ret row active. >> for cases moving forward. it doesn't allow us to go back in time to these cases that happened in the 1970s, and so we can't seek to have this

defendant held accountable for what we believe he did here many decades ago. >> reporter: deangelo would get yet another break if convicted if retroactivity were allowed. today sentences have gotten tougher. a convicted rapist faces 25 years to life. the prosecutor shows us a flowchart which she describes as a rubex cube. it's a complicated process. he started 20 years ago to get lawmakers to amend the statute of limitations after amending a case of a 7-year-old victim. deangelo also received a break in the '70s when he was hired by two police departments. >> he was hired at a time before we do mandatory psychological testing. so now we do a large battery of psychological tests. they're even evaluated bay a psychologist, too. and i think that helps to quite a big degree. >> reporter: deangelo's six

anymore referring to those controversial missile tests. bill cosby has been convicd of all charges in his retrial. >> the jury reached a decision in the emotionally charged case which portrayed cosby as a serial rapist who hid behind his fame. the 80-year-old comedian was found guilty on three counts. >> they relate to andrea constand. reaction was strong on both sides. >> we are vindicated. we are validated. >> this jury has shown what the me too movement is saying is that women are worthy of being believed. >> we don't think mr. cosby is guilty of anything, and the fight is not over. >> it was one big difference in this trial. jurors were allowed to hear from additional cosby accusers. the defense team said they fabricated their stories for

philadelphia magazine website and it went viral. we now know that it has changed the lives of nearly 60 women. in the newsroom leany melendez. >> the judge told cosby he is not to leave the county. it is likely bill cosby will appeal the verdict. well, a federal judge has convicted a man of illegally anchoring his boat at aquatic park cove. the san francisco chronicle says the verdict puts a temporary end to a six-month standoff between the yachtsman, park police and swimmers. they say he was polluting with sewage. it's been tied up at high street pier since april, when it broke away from its mooring. the yachtsman will be sentenced

late today the port of oakland approved an exclusive negotiationing agreement with t with the oakland a's. the team also wants exclusive negotiation rights for the colosseum to possibly rebuild there. but that requires city council approval. and legislation has yet to be introduced. a decision today that could prove costly for uber. the public utilities commission voted today that in addition to be a ride sharing service uber should also be classified as a

charter party carrier, the same type of transportation as limousines and tour buses. because of that they're order uber to pay fees for the last few years and register as one. at this point the only applies to uber and not other ride sharing companies include lyft. well, this story ininvolves a popcorn shop, a racial slur and a facebook post that went viral. >> dion lim has the story how the n-word. >> reporter: when a group of kids entered the popcorn shop. >> it was a group of about ten and next thing i know he's chasing them out of the story saying get out of here, don't come back here, n's, but he said the full word. >> reporter: when she shared her outrage the post went viral with

active this afternoon. it is quieting down now, but they have thunderstorms across the region. it's an area of low pressure that has been spinning off the coastline here well to our northwest but that has been responsible for dropping our temperatures, kicking up the sea breeze and allowing us to really cool below april averages. 3 to 6 degrees below average this troafternoon, and we're go to continue with that theme through the weekend. the wind is not that strong. but it is gusty around places like fairfield. in the mid-50s. mountain view, oakland, san jose, and half moon bay. another live picture and you can see the bay. currently fairfield, livermore and one other live picture. this is what we typically expect to see in the summertime, which is very deep marine layer from our abc 7 exploratory camera. it's a little early, some people are actually enjoying this.

scattered sprinkles tomorrow and saturday with cooler than average conditions right on through the weekend. but it's not going to last through next week. as we head towards the afternoon hours there might be a few sprinkles right around mendocino county, lake county. and this carries into saturday night. by sunday we start to notice the clouds are little thicker. you may actually see a light shower or few sprinkles saturday morning around 8:00 a.m. to noontime. and after 12:00 we will see isolated returns up to our north. it's definitely not one of those weekends where you'll have to change all of your plans. but just be aware of the fact it will be a little damp as we head to saturday morning. expecting measurable rain up to 0.14 of an inch. it is late in the season, obviously, but we have seen rain and snow in the sierra.

stocks climbed today as facebook led a market rally by technology companies. facebook's stocked jumped 14 points. the dow gained 238 points. the nasdaq went up by 114. >> stock at amazon rose by 4% during training day and is up 6% after hours. its reaction to its first quarter profit more than doubled a year ago far surpassed

and we begin this half-hour with president trump calling in to fox and friends and lashing out. >> he admitted for the first time that his personal attoey michael cohen did represent him in the quote, crazy stormy daniels deal. >> here's white house correspondent cecilia. >> reporter: president trump on fox and friends sounding like a man who need today vent, and for 29 minutes that is exactly what he did. today for the first time he acknowledged his long time personal attorney and fixer michael cohen related him in the stormy daniels deal. >> he represented me, and from what i i see he did absolutely nothing wrong. there were no campaign funds going into this. >> reporter: just three weeks go

the president said he knew nothing about cohen's $130,000 hush payment to the star. and today the president also distanced himself from cohen now under criminal investigation, his apartment, hotel and office raided by the fbi. >> i would say probably the big thing is his business, and they're looking into something having to do with his business. i have nothing to do with his business. i can tell you he's a good guy -- >> isn't he your attorney, mr. president? >> just so you understand i have many attorneys. sadly, i have so many attorneys you wouldn't blooefb. >> reporter: a prosecutor jumped on that comment saying if cohen no longer represented the president then attorney-client privilege should not be a case. also blasting the justice department. >> you look at the corruption at the top of if fbi, it's a

million things to do, but i hope you can join us again, mr. president. >> reporter: and in this interview the president was also asked to give himself a grade for his job performance. so far the grade he gave, a plus. mike pompeo has been sworn in as president trump's second secretary of state. he cleared the last hurdle today when the senate voted. he'll have a long list of new issues including the decision on the iran nuclear deal. he'll also be involved with president trump's upcoming summit with north korean leader dim zwrung un. the white house released this image of the two meeting over the weekend. epa scott pruitt faced tough questions, among them questions about his spending including a $43,000 secure phone booth in his office and how he traveled.

to an audience of one, the president. and his support they say that matters most. mary bruce, abc news, capitol hill. the white house has confirmed president trump will visit london may 13th. but several conservative groups are urging him to stay away from london because of the risk of major protests, crime and disorder. the mayor tweeted if he comes to london the president will experience an open and diverse city. he will also no doubt see that londoners hold their freedom of values and free speech very dear. dr. ronny jackson is accused of giving out drugs without a prescription and wrecking a government car while intoxicated. president trump blasted the process this morning on fox news. >> he would have done a great job. these are all false accusation.

february of last year over the scheduled appearance of conservative commentator milo anaupilous. speeches of others moved to smalr or other campuses for security. san francisco bio tech company is developing a home test that would allow anyone to check for diseases, infections and kanlsers. the test would use dna technology to determine what's in a person's blood or urine. users would up load a photo of the test to an app and have professional advice within an hour. the company believes people would be able to test for flu or rapidly screen for early warning signs of cancer. the test is still in development and will likery takely take few
