on the stand she said i was pissed and i wanted to end it with him. >> this is obviously a person that is very troubled, has a lot of issues, and that played out today in this courtroom and it was very painful to watch. >> reporter: on february 11th sheriff's deputies were called out to his home after receiving three 911 calls from ennis who said foster punched her ten times rupturing one of her eardrums. while testifying she made the whole story up she said and was actually injured the night before following a road rage incident in san francisco. >> it came off raw and organic on the stand. >> reporter: she also testified she tried to bring domestic violence charges against another man in 2011 when that man tried to break up with her. addressing her initial accusations ennis said i didn't

think it would get this far. >> by her getting on the stand and telling her story i think suggests this case is just not prosecutable for the da office office. >> reporter: next week the judge will decide whether the case proceeds to trial. chris wynn, abc 7 news. uc berkeley has fired long time athletic department employee mohamed mucktar after evidence that he violated the policy. six other women accused him of assault over a 20-year period. in january filed a lawsuit against the board of regents and an investigation was launch. he was terminated last friday. cal athletics called the investigation findings wholly unacceptable and such misconduct has no place.

witnesses say he was driving dangerously and too fast tuesday night cause agfatal five car collision on interstate 880 in fremont. the chp thinks he was high. he say supposed to be arraigned this afternoon but there was a delay. >> reporter: though his mother and several others showed up at the courthouse the man accused of causing deadly crash while under the influence of marijuana will wait another day before making his first court appearance. 21-year-old dang tran is expected to be arraigned on three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and other possible charges. according to chp tran was driving recklessly tuesday night when his car caused a chain accident. three people were killed. they were all part of a larger

blended family. johnson, her boyfriend chris, and their six daughters were riding in a cadillac escalade when it was struck. >> their baby caroline was 4 on the day they got into the car accident. >> reporter: johnson's close friend told abc news the family wutraveling that included stops at the zoo and santa cruz. >> she just put her heart and soul into those babies and she was a great friend, too. i have a lot of years of friendship with her and it's a hard loss. >> reporter: counselors were brought into the school in antiqua where brook attended. according to the chp none of those killed were wearing seat belts. of the five surviving family members one is still in the

hospital. now to an arrest in that deadly explosion. a spa owner was killed when she opened a package. the blast injured three other people and forced the evacuation of dozens of children from a nearby day care. here's abc news reporter. >> reporter: authorities investigating that deadly office explosion today arresting the victim's ex-boyfriend and business partner on an unrelated charge. steven beil appearing in federal court today charged with suspicion of being in possession of an unregistered destructive device. investigators not calling beil a suspect in the office explosion, but he did allow them to search his home where authorities found 130 pounds of explosive. >> that doesn't surprise me a bit because like i say he used to build rockets and set them off. >> reporter: witnesses say they saw her pick up a package and

open it with a tool. it immediately exploded, killing her. now searching for answers. >> families always came first for her. she took great pride in finding beauty in everyone. >> reporter: police just arriving at beil's home with a tow truck saying their search warrant covers the silver toyota prius parked there in his driveway. he saw media coverage of the incident and he doesn't have to kind of materials to create an explosion, he says. governor brown today signed a bill that awards nearly $2 million to a man wrongly imprisoned for nearly 40 years. he was convicted of killing his girlfriend and his son in 1978. this is the largest payment under the state's eroan s conviction program. and police are now looking into

you know what, waiting for people strung-out on drugs to come into hospitals and clinics it's not working. >> it's motworking but with $6 million and a team of doctors a new san francisco project could work when it comes to helping drug addicts on the street. directly reaching out to heroin

addicts, giving them a drug that seems to have great success in stopping heroin cravings. >> you've probable heard of opioid crisis. the federal government estimates more than 2 million americans will suffer from opioid addiction this year. >> drugs that include heroin, fentanyl and prescription pain relievers. >> the cdc estimates the misuse costs our country $80 billion a year. >> reporter: chris was homeless and addicted to heroin until a drug changed his life. >> i'm 3 1/2 years clean, never looked back. i'm now a counselor in the east bay, i have a home. i have a regular life. >> reporter: they've been using the medication on some homeless peole addicted to heroin.

now the mayor wants to fund a team who will go out and distribute the medication to at least 250 more street addicts during a two-year period. each person would be given a one-week pack of daily doses in pill form or strips. dr. barry has been treating him and others. >> bring people to where they are, get people stabilized and then they're going to be able to move into those next steps. >> reporter: but how can anyone be sure they'll take it? he says it works immediately. >> you're normal and takes away all your cravings and all your desires. >> reporter: the helkt department says nearly 60% of those who began taking the medication are still working on being clean. to better understand the crisis here in san francisco the health department estimates there are 11,000 heroin addicts who use needles. public works picks up more than

12,000 discarded needles every month. those needles are collected mainly from homeless hot spots and encampments. >> if we're really going to solve the issue and make a dent we have to be creative. >> the plan will cost $6 million and be included in the mayor's june 1st budget proposal. this is being called a potential game changer. abc 7 news. >> all right, the weekend is almost upon us. what's the forecast going to look like? >> because it was a bit breezy today again, sandhya. >> it will be a bit breezy as we head into the weekend for our beta breakers. i want to show you the time lapse tonight. as you take a look from our emeriville camera, watch that fog layer. you see it's not advancing much. certainly was breezy, but not strong enough this afternoon to prevent us from getting warmer. we're going to go into a holding pattern for a few days.

and good evening once again. we'll begin this half-hour with president trump who had a lot to say about north korea today. >> with cameras rolling during an oval office meeting he seemed to speak directly to kim jong-un offering him protection if he agrees to a deal. >> here's cecilia vega. >> reporter: will there or won't there be a summit with north korea. today president trump said he's in the dark just like everyone else. >> nothing has changed with north korea that we know of. we have not been told anything. >> reporter: but tonight for this art of the deal president, his biggest deal yet is at risk of falling apart. >> that's what i do is deals, and with deals you have to have two parties that want to do it. he absolutely wanted to do. >> reporter: so what went wrong? president trump blames kim's

recent trip to china. >> there has been a big difference since they had the second meeting with president xi. president xi could be influencing kim jong-un, but we'll see. >> reporter: but pyeongyang says it is livid that national security advisor john bolton who they once referred to as human scum called on them to do what libya did a decade ago. >> we have very much in mind the libya model from 2003 to 2004. >> reporter: to north korea that sounds like regime change. after libya gave up its nuclear program the dictator was overthrown and murdered in the streets. today with bolton right there looking on president trump flatly contradicted him. >> well, the libyan model isn't a model that we have when we're thinking of north korea. this would be kim jong-un something where he'd be there, he'd be hin izcountry, running his country, his country would be very rich. >> reporter: and then he sent a

reassuring message directly to kim himself. >> he'll get preces that would be very strong. if we make a deal i think kim jong-un would be very happy. >> reporter: and from a president who beamed at talk of a nobel peace prize. >> that's very nice, thank you. that's very nice. nobel. >> reporter: -- today a different tone. >> look, i want to have peace in the world. that's what i really want. more so than the nobel peace pize or any other prize. >> reporter: despite what north korea says, president trump says his aides are still planning this summit. and from the national security counsel and the state department they say preparations are underway. abc news, the white house. the senate today confirmed gena hasical at the first director of the cia. her nomination was kacontentiou because of her role in a cia

program to interrogate terrorists. since president trump took office last year, the number of arrests by immigration and customs enforcement have soared in california. from october 2017 through march of this year i.c.e. reported arresting more than 3,400 noncriminals statewide. that's compared to about a thousand arrests for the same period a year earlier. and it's not just california seeing a jump. nationwide, a total of 36,000 noncriminals were arrested. that is about double from the previous year. a passenger running late for his flight is facing charges tonight as he tried to break his way onto the plane. it shows the moment the passenger manages to get to the door of the aircraft. >> reporter: imagine a breach of airport security just before emergencies were due to board

the flight to sydney this man rushed onto the tarmac. he dashed up the stairs and tried to rip open the door at first with his hands and then using his feet. as he got closer to gaining access to plane, staff worked frantically to keep the door shut. staff and witnesses watched from gate 44 as the plane they were about to embark on was targeted. >> everybody's scared. >> i was pretty scared to be honest in the wake of all these security issues going on that the moment. >> reporter: staff held the man themselves until officers arrived. >> the police arrived really quickly. there were lots of olice, lots of security staff from the airline. >> reporter: it's understood the man had missed an earlier flight to adelaide. he confronted staff and pushing over a computer and confronting two other crew members. >> he was aggressive, punching fists into the air and yelling.

>> reporter: luckily had the passengers had disembarked by the time he launched his attack. after more than an hour of security checks passengers boarded their flight north just after 11:00. the staff that were confronted sustained minor injuries and will now receive counseling. in the meantime that man has been banned from all future jet star and contas flights. >> when something like this happens in front of you it makes you a bit concerned. well, two fisherman on the galveston shore caught what appeared to be a tiger shark and then spent nearly two hours trying to coax it back. after the fisherman pulled it to shore one man held its snout while the other used wire cutters to remove the hook from the shark's mouth.

then they decided to drag it back into the water and send it home into the gulf of mexico. american women continue to wait longer to have children. that sent the overall fertility rate to a record low. the u.s. centers for disease control and prevention said the only age group that saw a rise in birth rates were women in their early 40s. it's a third year in a row the number of births has declined. a 2% drop from 2016. >> the first medicine designed to prevent migraines was approved by the food and drug administration today. many experts believe it will usher in a new eera in treatmen for many, maybe you, who suffer from these headaches. it's delivered with monthly injections with a device similar to an insulin pen. the list price will be $6,900 a
