moisture combined with cold air trapped around susanville brought a period of snow to the city including the valley floor around 4200 feet. short range midday, but unstable air mass across northern ca this afternoon sparks police are looking for the person or people who fired several shots at and near an apartment complex this morning. police tell us they started getting calls around 6:30 of shots being fired at the sierra woods apartment complex on greenbrae drive. on injures have been reported... but at least one apartment unit was hit and more than one vehicle. police say they found handgun casings in the area. no arrests have been made but police are talking to people in the area.. trying to get leads. if you know anything about the incident you can call sparks police or secret witness at 322-4900. humbolt county sheriff deputies have arrested 52-year-old james

james erwin. melendez was arrested monday in lake havasu city, arizona. he's the second person to be arrested in this case. erwin's wife, pam, was arrested on murder charges last week. melendez faces charges of murder and conspiracy to destroy evidence. in light of the recent shootings near pat baker park, reno city leaders and local law enforcement spoke with residents to address a growing concern in the neighborhood. at last night's meeting neighbors wanted answers and accountability. in a one month span, three shootings took place near pat baker park, resulting in two murders. and, theres been an overall uptick of crime since 2013. last year alone there were 256 crimes reported in the neighborhood -- about a dozen more than last year. reno councilman oscar delgado says the city is working on turning things around. oscar: the community has done a whole lot of work to make sure that it wasn't what it was in the past. i say that in respect to gang issues and crime issues

issues, but we are trying to get ahead of it and make sure the community knows there are resources available for them. new cameras will be installed in place of the broken ones at the park and the community is encouraged to take part in a neighborhood watch program. the city is also putting 400-thousand dollars toward park improvements. the pine middle school closure is impacting families more than you might think. many of the students who go to the school rely on school lunches for some of their meals. that's why several organizations came together to provide a free breakfast-bag for 400 families. students won't be going back to school for several days because a pipe broke in the building -- flooding the school. thats why the food bank of northen nevada teamed up with model dairy farms to make the breakfast bags along with a voucher for a gallon of milk. it's a staple and it's not terribly expensive, but it might get bypassed for other things. if we could provide milk and allow money for other things i think it's a good program. we want to make sure they get good

you can claim your free bag of food and milk voucher at miguel ribera park off neil road next tuesday from 4 to 5 p-m. just bring the food bank flier-- given to parents last week. the winter weather is forcing some of our roads, to show their age. on south virignia street, north of patriot, pot holes are appearing on the roadway-- with cars and trucks making efforts to avoid them. city of reno road crews were out yesterday, trying to fill the holes, which are about an inch deep. the crews are using an ashphalt-aggregrate mix-- which they say should do the trick for a while. while the pot holes are a nuisance, they apparently aren't going to cause drivers problems, at this time. marnell heinz/reno maintenance & operations mgr: right now they are anywhere from an inch to an inch and a half deep. so it is not really detrimental to the vehicles mechanically. at this time it is more of a nuisance or irritation when you feel the bump on your steering wheel. with input from regional municipalities,

commission prioritizes road re-construction. but, the r-t-c says this winter has been severe enough to have them re-analyzing road conditions, which include south virginia street. crews will be out there later in the week, with the city of reno-- to see if reconstructing the road, can be fast tracked. ### and some lane closures to tell you about. n-dot is reducing lanes on state route 28 in incline village. the lanes will be done to one lane until 3:30 p-m friday. the rediction is needed to install street lights... sidewalk ramps and crossing signs to enhance pedestrian safety on the road. the 20-16 national championship air races are months away, but we got a preview of some of the new performances you can expect to see. the blue angels are returning for the first time in five years. also scheduled are the smoke-n-thunder jet show-- and lucas aerobatics. for the first time at the air races... a special demonstration, with large scale drones. it's all part of a plan, to
