their morning commute today. the freezing temperatures overnight have created extremely slick conditions in most areas. first responders were onthe scene of dozens of accidents near the speghetti bowl this morning. no injuries were reported but it caused major delays for people trying to get to work this morning. while you may not see the blinding snowfall that we had yesterday... it is still going to be dangerous out there. n-dot crews are working around the clock to clear the roads... ice will be a major problem. "the driving conditions for everyone involved, including our own drivers, is going to be slow. people need to plan ahead. leave a little bit early." these accidents are a reminder to take it slow and drive safe during these big storms. and make sure to carry chains on the mountain roads. let's go to lindsey matherly with a look at the forecast.

hitting the slopes after all this fresh snow, you'll want to be aware of the avalanche danger today. the sierra avalanche center is currently reporting 'moderate' avalanche danger. natural avalanche activity is not expected today but officials say it's not out of the question. however, human triggered avalanches are expected for the backcountry. officials at the center say wind slabs have formed in less typical areas which could be easily triggered.

and skier were rescued over the weekend after riding out of bounds at mount rose ski resort. washoe county officials say two people called for help saturday afternoon after getting lost on the slide side of the mountain. washoe county search and rescue say they made contact with the boarders four 4 later. officials say they were in an avalanche prone area, which slowed the rescue process down. the boarders were found unharmed. it's no surprise that we've gotten a good amount of snow this year in the sierra. today, nevada is conducting the second snow survey of the season... to find out exactly where we're at. we were 110-percent of snow survey. that means, in terms of about an inch and a half more, than is average this time of year. and about seven inches at that time last year. snow survey's are a good indicator of how much water we'll have for summer and how much water we will have in our reservoirs. despite all the snow we've gotten this

still be behind as a result of the drought. over the last four years we've missed a whole years worth of precipitation. winter weather has caused some problems for the sky tavern junior ski program this year... but this weekend was a go... and hundreds of kids had the chance to take advantage of the fresh powder. the first three days of the ski program were cancelled due to high winds and icy roads... but conditions from this latest storm... were ideal. 5 inches of fresh snow were reported. chain controls were up on mt. rose highway... but the buses were were able to get everyone on the hill. it's a change from the past few years... when it was lack of snow causing cancellations... and eventually, a change of venue. "this is amazing we are so happy to be back on our mountian we can't thank mt. rose enough for letting us ski there but there's nothing like being at your own home base." the non-profit plans to make up some of the missed days at the end of the season. today we'll learn more about the successes and challenges facing our schools during the superintendent's 20-16

tonight's address starts at 6 o'clock... at the damonte ranch high school theater. superintendent traci davis and the washoe county school district board of trustees will discuss the district's progress toward goals outlined in 20-15 and will update the community on current programs designed to help students succeed. police believe a deadly shooting in south lake tahoe this weekend-- stemmed from a drug deal. it happened saturday night at the beverly lodge. police found 40 year old dennis wright junior outside one of the rooms with a gunshot wound to his chest. he was taken to a local hospital where he died. according to police... wright and a woman drove to south lake to deliver a hundred pounds of marijuana. a fight broke out and shots were fired. the woman suffered a head injury. police are asking anyone with information about this shooting to call south lake tahoe police at 530-542-6100. secret witness is now offering a two thousand dollar reward for information about a deadly hit and

it happened a little before 6 o'clock yesterday morning near fourth street and spokane. according to reno police, a 55 year old man was crossing the street when he was hit by a speeding pickup truck with its' headlights off. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. the vehicle is described as a new light colored full sized pickup truck. anyone with information is asked to call reno police or secret witness at 322- 4900. elko is extending its ban on medical marijuana shops despite the fact that some residents want it lifted. the elko daily free press reports only one councilmember voted no on the ban. councilman john patrick rice noted that about 60 percent of elko voters cast ballots in favor of nevada's medical marijuana initiative. rice said the city is depriving itself of revenue and keeping a service from residents. councilwoman mandy simons was among the four in favor of the ban and noted possession of cannabis is still illegal under federal law. it's finally here... the and noted possession of cannabis is still illegal under federal law. it's finally here... the

discuss new guiding principles. if enacted... roughly 18-thousand law enforcement agencies in the u-s would significantly remake how policing has been done for decades. the 30 principles include an acknowledgment from leading law enforcement professionals... that officers should go beyond the basic legal standard of what a "reasonable officer" would do in such a situation. it also includes that officers should focus on preserving all human lives in any encounter. a massive fire erupted at commercial building in los angeles early monday morning. you can see the huge flames coming off this building in the glassell park neighborhood. officials say propane cylinders and combustible materials stored in the building helped fuel the fire. firefighters managed to get the flames under control and knock down the fire just before seven a-m. it's not clear how it started. the cause is still under investigation. dozens are dead in northeast nigeria -- after another terror attack by boko haram.
