been stabbed. his name won't be released until his family is notified. r-p-d homicide detectives say robbins admitted stabbing the man. robbins was charged with open murder with a deadly weapon. police say they are not looking for any additional suspects. a sparks man has been charged with child neglect and discharging a firearm into a home after an incident this morning. sparks police say they were called to the 3000 block of keogh drive shortly before 3am for a report of shots fired inside a home. officers say the suspect in the shooting is gordon mellinger... who has had a history of mental illness. two women and two teenage girls were inside the home during the incident. police convinced one of the women over the phone to get to the back yard... where they were able to escort her to safety. this woman confirmed that mellinger had fired two shots inside the home. swat was brought in and once they started negotiating with mellinger.. he walked out of the house and

artists from africa are showcasing their work at a new gallery in reno ... and donating the proceeds to a good cause. the exhibit is on display all month long at the potentialist workshop on east second street. the proceeds from each piece of art sold will go toward helping impoverished children living on the streets of rwanda. one of the artists is the founder of a cultural center in rwanda that teaches different forms of art to kids. a 14-year-old basketball player is recovering after a freak accident during a game. the wisconsin girl fell and was partially impaled by a splintered floorboard. dannika lewis shows us what happened. --reporter pkg-as follows-- "it's a temporary fix for a very serious accident. on sunday afternoon during a basketball tournament, enough to make parents double-check for cracks in all of the floorboards here. and for the man running the tournament, who's seen 2000 games, it's something he has never seen before." wisconsin heights player was impaled by the court. the board had split in the middle and stuck into the young player. her mom - the coach - was quickly by her side. "it was 3 to 4 inches long and in some parts, probably a quarter to a half inch deep." minutes later emergency crews show up, and everyone else is asked to leave the gym. "we thought they were going to have to remove an entire board and take the board to the hospital." they didn't have to that, but the eighth grader was loaded-up on a stretcher and spent the night at the hospital. none of her internal organs were hit by the wood. "i don't know if we'll ever hear something like this ever happening again anywhere." hibner is especially surprised it happened here, in middleton... where the floor is just 15 years old. for now... a replacement sliver of wood is glued and guarded by garbage cans. it should be permanently fixed in the next week or so. "i've got a tournament here in two weeks, and i have every belief that we'll be playing on this court that as well." hibner is confident that the rest of the court will hold up, and says he doesn't expect any legal action against the school district. "kind of like a strike of lightning where you just don't think those things are going to happen. it

oregon courtroom today to face charges stemming from an armed standoff in 20-14 over grazing rights. the occupation gained national attention-- as the exchange with federal agents quickly escalated. bundy was arrested last week in portland just hours before a nearly 6-week standoff at a wildlife refuge ended. the leader of that occupation-- cliven's son, ammon-- was also arrested. it's not clear why it took as long as it did to bring charges against cliven. an important recall this morning involving a high chair. 56-hundred of these "nuna baby essentials" high chairs are being recalled because the arm-bar can detach causing your child to fall. they were sold at several retailers, including nordstrom between 2013 and 2015. if you have one of these high chairs stop using it and contact nuna for a free replacement arm- bar. we've posted more information about the recall at kolo 8 news now. just click on hot topics. another recall

general motors is recalling 200-thousand saabs and saturns to replace the air bag inflators. affected models include teh saab 9-3 from 2003 to 2011 and teh saab 9-5 from 2010 and 2011. it also includes the saturn astra from 2008 and 2009. this is just the latest in several recalls involving the airbags which can explode in a crash sending shrapnel at drivers and passengers. in an effort to give people on food stamps healthier food options, the agriculture department will announce new food stamp rules today. businesses that accept food stamps will now have to stock 168 items in their stores that the department considers healthy. the department says they do not dictate what a person using food stamps buys, but they want the healthier options to be available. the changing relationship between the u-s and cuba is good for business. starting today... u-s airlines can apply for

as many as 100-flights a day. that's a big jump from the current ten to fifteen daily charter flights from the u-s. airlines have 15-days to submit proposals to the transportation department scheduled flights could begin as early as fall. the obama administration is also allowing a u-s company to build a factory in cuba. the alabama-based company "cleber l-l-c" builds tractors for small farms. it will be the first american factory to be built and operated in cuba in more than 50- years. gamers, you're in luck. las vegas is reportedly a top location for a proposed arena to host competitive video games. according to the las vegas sun, beijing based company, 'ourgame international holdings', is looking to expand to other countries and they're eying the silver state. the c-e-o of the company says he wants to establish a dozen arenas around the world within three to five years and vegas would be a key location. some like the snow and ice from winter and so
