you thought you knew. mrs. cosby still has the right to claim marital privilege and not answer questions about private conversations with her husband. linsey davis, abc news, new york. one investigation is under way looking into what caused a packed megabus to burn on its way from chicago to minneapolis. a driver and 40 passengers were on board when the bus caught fire. everyone got off safely with no injuries. passengers said it was a horrible scene and they fled toward safety. >> as i got off to catch my breath, i started walking down the highway, the bus blew up again and fire came from everywhere. >> terrifying. everyone exited the bus so quickly, most of their belongings were left behind. all the baggage under the bus was lost. passengers credited the driver with getting some luggage off before the smoke got to be too much. but look at the final wreckage of that. incredible. >> it's absolutely an inferno there. a couple in massachusetts is just starting their married life together and already have quite a tale to tell.

traveling from chicago to minneapolis burst into flames. an investigation is under way into the cause of the fire. many on board lost all their belongings. and it was a photo finish in the daytona 500. denny hamlin in the number 11 car, edging out martin truex jr. by just inches. it was hamlin's first daytona victory after ten attempts. those are some of our top stories on this monday, february 22nd. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning, everyone. we're going to start this half hour with the shooting rampages in kalamazoo, michigan. hundreds of people attended a prayer service last night for the families of the six people who were killed and the two who were injured. >> one, a teen, is clinging to life. the suspect, an uber driver, is expected in court this morning for arraignment on murder charges. more now from abc's alex perez in kalamazoo. >> reporter: investigators in

hunt for answers after a deadly rampage leaves six dead. the suspect, jason dalton, now behind bars. >> shots fired. we have one confirmed victim right now. >> reporter: the chaos beginning at 5:42 p.m. saturday evening. a woman shot several times in the parking lot of this residential complex. she survives. but four hours later in this car dealership parking lot, a father and his 17-year-old son shot and killed. within minutes, the gunman opens fire outside a cracker barrel restaurant, killing four in their car, including former teacher, mary lul nye and wounding a 14-year-old girl. >> dispatch all units. suspect vehicle in a shooting. last seen at cracker barrel. >> reporter: just after midnight, police spot the suspect's vehicle and take him into custody without incident. the victims, police say, apparently selected at random. >> this is your worst nightmare.

families of these victims that they weren't targeted for any reason other than they were there to be a target? >> reporter: 45-year-old dalton had no criminal record, and worked as an uber driver. his neighbors, in disbelief. >> it's scary. that could have been us. that could have been my daughter that got killed. >> reporter: authorities investigating whether the alleged gunman was taking fares in between shootings. matt mellon claims he was dalton's passenger just 70 minutes before the first shooting. he says he called 911 and feared for his life. because dalton was driving erratically. his fiance even warning others on facebook moments before the shooting. >> we were kind of driving through medians, driving through the lawn, speeding along. and then finally, once he came to a stop, i jumped out of the car and ran away. >> reporter: uber in a statement saying, we are horrified and heartbroken at this senseless violence. we have reached out to the police to help with their investigation in any way we can. investigators recovered a gun from dalton's vehicle.

afternoon. alex perez, kalamazoo, michigan. a high-profile hearing gets under way in a connecticut courtroom. a judge is expected to decide whether some families who lost loved ones in the sandy hook shooting can sue companies that manufacture and sell the ar-15 rifle that was used in the massacre. firearms makers are generally protected from liability by a law passed in 2005, but this suit alleges that the makers of the ar-15 knew it was not sustainable for civilian use. >> and it really has been a rough weekend, an awful weekend in michigan. now a family of six there is dead of carbon monoxide poisoning. the sheriff in the town of fenton, just northwest of detroit, says the likely cause was a generator running in the basement. the family had lost power friday night. among the dead were the parents and their four children. the youngest only 2 years old. the victims were all found dead in their beds. isis has claimed responsibility for two deadly bombings in syria. more than 100 people died when

homs. the attack occurred as secretary of state john kerry announced a tentative cease-fire agreement that could begin in the next couple of days, but he acknowledged, it's not finalized and all parties might not automatically comply. let's move on now to politics. the republican candidates are campaigning in nevada today after donald trump's sweeping victory in south carolina. first trump made a quick stop in atlanta to celebrate, vowing to win georgia and other southern states. second and third-place finishers, marco rubio and ted cruz, both criticized trump's strategy. >> surrounding yourself with smart people alone is not enough. >> donald devotes all of his time and energy, all of his money to attacking me. whether rubio is eligible to run. says he is not being treated fairly by the republican national committee. south carolina primary on saturday, hillary clinton is leading in the polls. but bernie sanders is still very

skiers everywhere. here's abc's clayton sandell. >> reporter: for more than six terrifying minutes, this 11-year-old boy dangles from a chair lift with the safety bar up, he had dropped a ski pole and slid out trying to catch it. and then that dramatic moment, volunteer rescuers holding up a tarp and urging him to let go. he was not hurt. there are roughly 3,500 ski lifts in the united states. although chair lift accidents are rare, ski resorts are reminders riders this season about how to stay safe. >> you think you're going to drop something like a pole or glove, it's best just to let it drop. and then somebody can go back around and pick it up for you. >> reporter: but sometimes there are mechanical failures, like in west virginia. 25 people fell when the lift derailed, dropping 30 feet. 100 skiers left stranded. rescuers using harnesses to get them down. >> when it hit the ground, everybody that didn't have their safety bar down got ejected out.
