" presidential candidate "if you're talking about the polls, i'm beating him awfully badly --" presidential candidate "but you're not beating hillary." presidential candidate "hey, if i can't beat her, you're really going to get killed." the gloves were off--- during tonight's republican presidential debate. we'll have the all the highlights. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm noah bond. we begin with breaking news. in the last hour-- reports of shots fired at the silver springs nugget in lyon county. a care flight was sent to the scene. we're learning this shooting--- was started by an attempted robbery. we'll bring you updates on this developing report--- in this newscast as we learn new details. ### and-- we're following a developing story out of kansas. at least four people were killed and more than a dozen were injured following a series of shootings. the suspect opened fire at two separate locations before

industries" in hesston, kansas. the suspect was a former employee and was killed by police. an employee describes what he saw. "we heard a pop-pop and we just thought it was metal falling on the ground. then the doors opened and people started screaming and running out saying go to the front. then everybody turned around and said no he's out front so everybody started going to the back" police said the shooter fired from his car and shot people at two nearby locations before opening fire in the factory....hitting 15 people, and killing three of them. at least 14 people were sent to the hospital. five people are in critical condition. two horses were hit by cars on the same stretch of highway early this morning... and the nevada department of agriculture is reminding drivers to be careful, especially after dark. kolo 8 news nows chris buckley joins us with more on this tonight. chris? noah the horses were hit within a few hundred yards of each other... one was killed on impact, the other was injured and had to be euthanized. it's a reminder for drivers in the virginia

the lookout. sightings of wild horses near roads in the virginia range area are common... "we have 2000 heads of horses that live out here on these ranges we have issues from 95 to 395, 50 to i-80 so when you're in those areas you need to be cautious." especially after dark. two horses were hit on highway 50 east of dayton early thursday morning... between mark twain avenue and rainbow drive. the horse hit by this car came through the windshield and was killed on impact. "hitting a horse is very much like hitting an eld you need to beweare of it becuause in a car you're normally going to take out the legs and they're going to come through the windshield." the driver was transported with minor injuries. the other horse was the victim of a hit and run... that driver took off... and the injured horse was euthanized. the highway patrol is taking the lead on that case... officials say if you do hit an animal, you shouldn't leave the scene. "you should pull over and treat it like any other accident allow there to be a report and do it the way it should be done."

agriculture says this area has had horse problems for the last two decades "its not completely fenced so we can't always monitor those horses, they have access to both sides of the road." and while they're working with n-dot to continue fencing along this stretch of highway 50, that's still a ways down the road. that's why they're reminding drivers to slow down and keep an eye out. "you should always just naturally assume that the horses are there, that way you can always be watchful and hopefully avoid any possible accidents." there are a couple of ways you can report horses in the virginia range area... that pose a public safety threat... we have that phone number and e-mail address... on kolo t-v dot com. noah? a jury in yearington is deciding the fate of a silver springs man... accused of killing his girlfriend's son. cody wallace is charged with the death of 2-year-old... thomas o'connell the fourth-- back in november of 2010. he was watching the boy, because his mother was at work. the silver springs man, says the boy fell and hit

this can't be true--- and the boys injuries prove this point. here is a portion of the closing stateemnts... first from the attorney defending wallace, and then from the prosecutor. "we don't have to prove that the injuries were accidental. the district attorney's office must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they were intentional." "these injuries could not happen from one or two or three falls from a chair. they couldn't be that wide spread. it doesn't make sense you fall once." the jury is talking about the evidence. no word--- on how long it'll take to reach a decision. ### a manhunt is on--- in the bay area...for two suspects wanted in the murder of a man in south lake tahoe last month. investigators from the el dorado county d-a's office were in solano county, california today searching for 24-year- old domenic sean-lee randolph and 26-year-

randolph vaccaro. they believe those two men were involved in the murder of dennis wright on january 30th at the beverly lodge. they are considered armed and dangerous. last week, 18-year-old tristan batten and 20- year-old harvest davidson were arrested-- for their alleged involvement in the murder. ### reno police are searching for two men involved in a home invasion. the home invasion happened yesterday on foster drive where one man was injured. reno police told kolo 8 news now, several people have called-- saying they've seen the suspect's car. so far, the car has not been found. the car is described as an older white two- door car... with a black stripe down the driver's side door. the suspects are believed to be involved in other thefts in the area. the two male suspects-- are considered to be armed and dangerous. if you see this car, don't approach it, and call police or secret witness 322-4900. ### ?are you enjoying this spring-like weather?

they really heard from citizens today and made sure that was reflected in the direction that we take before us." the authority will apparently approach the county-- about the possibility of taking the course over. lucey cautioned--- he's just one vote on the county commission. it's not known, what the other commissioners will feel, about the idea. ### in the meantime, the convention authority says it'll continue to maintain, and operate the course. #### a new tax on medical devices has patients, those who care for them, and medical device dealers-- angry and exasperated. nevada's department of taxation says devices like c-pap machines, oxygen tanks, even monitors on infants can now be taxed. the amount is equal to a sales tax. and there are estimates it could generate up to state coffers. " doug bennett/bennett medical services: i just know at point.zero zero 4 cents per a negative effect on the revenue

we'll be right beverages are bad for you. almost one third of americans drink at least one sugary drink a day. but a new study suggestions that statistic could be changing. here's doctor timothy johnson with tonight's medical minute. soda? fruit juice? sweet tea? and energy drinks. when it comes to refreshment, sugary drinks are a popular choice. but all those

hazards? not the least of which is a higher risk for obesity, diabetes and heart disease. now, new data from the cdc show that the trend may be going down. in a 2013 survey, 1 in 3 americans reported drinking at least one sugar-containing drink per day. if true, a sign of a positive trend? since previous research suggests up to half of americans drink one of those sugary drinks daily. the new survey also found that men drink more sweet drinks than women. breaking it down by age, 43 percent of young adults have at least one per day. their elders? only 19 percent. more research will be needed to confirm this trend. but with national dietary guidelines recommending that only 10 percent of our total daily calories come from added sugars? it may be a good time to keep trading that soda for a sugar-free alternative. with this medical minute,
