and two wild horses were hit and killed on highway 50. a message on the importance of staying at the scene if this ever happens to you. thanks for joining us on good morning reno. i'm amanda sanchez. dave lawrence is off today. we begin this morning with breaking news. police say the traffic lights are out at the intersection of plumb and arlington because a mini-van reportedly hit the electrical box. police say they believe the driver of the mini- van may have fallen asleep at the wheel. no word yet on when the traffic lights will be restored. northbound lanes on arlighton from plumb are closed. stay with kolo 8 news now for any updates. let's go to lindsey

temperatures across northeast california and western nevada will be well above average today before easing down slightly over the weekend. it will be breezy this afternoon and evening, with a chance for showers mainly north of interstate 80 tonight and early saturday. another weak system is possible sunday night, with one person is dead ... and two others injured following an officer involved shooting in silver springs. kolo 8 news now's matt vaughan joins us in studio with the latest on this developing story. this incident spread across two counties and ended with a shootout between law enforcement and one of the suspects. according to lyon mcneil... a deputy was shot in the hand... the threatening.

according to lyon county sheriff al mcneil... one of those injured was a lyon county deputy... he was shot in the hand... the injury is non life threatening. the sheriff tells us the incident started as a report of a stolen vehicle in sparks around 9:30 last night. a short time later around 10 p.m.... the sheriff says a lyon county deputy spotted the stolen vehicle.. a red chevy cruze.. in the parking lot of the silver springs nugget. as the officer approached the vehicle ... someone in the car shot at him ... at which time the officer returned fire. sheriff mcneil says that suspect was killed. a second person in the vehicle was also shot. mcneil says everyone involved is accounted for and there is currently not threat to public safety. sheriff al mcneil/lyon county sheriff's office " at this point we have all the subjects accounted for...one of the subjects did admit it was just the four of them in the vehicle. the second person who was shot was flown to the hospital. the extent of their injuries is not known. the deputy involved in the shooting was also taken to a hospital for the injury to his hand. two other people ran

later arrested. the names of the 4 suspects and the deputy involved have not been released. sheriff mcneil was not able to say how many shots were fired or how many weapons were recovered at the scene. the investigation is being handled by the nevada department of investigations. northbound lanes on sun valley boulevard at east 5th avenue were closed for hours after a rollover accident around 1 this morning. deputies from the washoe county sheriff's office say one vehicle was involved in the crash. driving the vehicle had taken to the hospital deputies believe alcohol may be a factor in this crash. and police in the bay area are looking for two suspects who they say were involved in a lake tahoe shooting last month. investigators from the el dorado county are searching for 24-year- old domenic sean-lee

randolph vaccaro. they believe these two men were involved in the murder of dennis wright on january 30th at the beverly lodge. they're considered armed and dangerous. last week, 18-year-old tristan batten and 20- year-old harvest davidson were arrested-- for their alleged involvement in the murder. a former guard at a southern nevada prison is being accused of smuggling cellphones and drugs to inmates. 41-year-old michael james was arrested last month on suspicion of bribery, and potentially supplying a phone to a prisoner. he's no longer employed as a guard, and his bail is set at 11-thousand dollars. secret witness is offering a 2-thousand dollar reward for information about a home invasion on foster drive near hunter lake drive. police are searching for two men who they say went into a home and attacked an elderly man

they say the attackers could be driving an older white two-door car... with a black stripe down the driver's side door. they're described as hispanic or light skinned black men. one is six feet tall, with a thin build. the other is described as five foot eight inches tall, with a heavy build and a tattoo on one of his forearms. if you have any information call secret witness at 322-4900. a jury in yearington is deciding the fate of a silver springs man accused of killing his girlfriend's son back in 2010. cody wallace is charged with the death of 2- year-old thomas o'connell the fourth. according to reports wallace was watching the boy while his girlfriend was at work. during that time the boy suffered severe injuries to his head. wallace claims the boy fell and hit his head -- but, prosecutors say that can't be true--- and the boys injuries prove this point. "we don't have to prove that the injuries were accidental. the district attorney's office must

doubt that they were intentional." butt with "these injuries could not happen from one or two or three falls from a chair. they couldn't be that wide spread. it doesn't make sense you fall once." after the closing stateemnts from the attorney defending wallace, and from the prosecutor, the jury began discussing the evidence provided. no word on how long it will take them to reach a decision. sad news to report this morning.. police say two horses were hit on highway 50 -- east of dayton -- early yesterday morning. the horses were reportedly hit within a few hundred yards of each other. one was killed on impact, the other was injured and had to be euthanized. as for the drivers, police say one was taken to the hospital with minor injuries -- the other reportedly left the scene. n-h-p says if you do hit an animal, you should

department of agriculture say this stretch of highway has had horse problems for the last two decades. the r-s-c-v-a, is now looking for a new owner for the wildcreek golf course. they say they've been losing 150 to 200- thousand dollars a year, operating the course and its value of an attraction for visitors, has declined. the authority's board weighed its options on wednesday, rejecting the idea--at least for now--of selling the land for development. instead, they decided to try to find a new owner--a decision that pleased wild-creek's loss of property values. lucey: "i'm pleased with the outcome. i think our board did a not only to our staff and how we're going to move forward. and they really heard from citizens today and made sure that was reflected in the direction that we take before us." the convention authority will now approach the county about the possibility of taking the course over. but lucey cautioned--- he's just one vote on the county commission. it's not known how the other commissioners feel about the idea. in the meantime, the convention authority says it'll continue to maintain, and operate

nevada's department of employment, training and rehabilitation revised their numbers for the state's unemployment rate for 2015. they say the unemployment rate is 6.7- percent. and the new estimate shows the silver state gained more jobs than originally thought. over 40-thousand jobs were added statewide - and in reno and sparks over 7-thousand jobs were added. they say the revision was made because more data became available. a road construction project on the intersecton of pyramid and mccarran is about to get underway. the regional transportation commission says they'll begin consturction in april. they say it took a few years, to finish preparing for the project because r-t-c had to acquire, then demolish properties---

for the changes and improvements. they say it will take more than a year to complete that phase of the plan. "the project, we expect once we get started out here will be about 20 months in duration. that's not to say that there will be traffic controls the entire time. some time crews will be doing some off road work. sandwich chain subway says it is adding antibiotic-free chicken to its menu. the company touted what it said was a victory over it's fast food rivals in being the first to make the change in all stores. the antibiotic-free rotisserie-style chicken sandwich will be available on march first. mcdonald's announced a similar move a year ago, but is still working on implementation. chick-fil-a announced plans for antibiotic- free chicken in 20-14 -- saying it has now reached 23 percent of its goal to eliminate antibiotics, with full conversion expected by 20-19. many fast food companies have committed in recent years to selling "cleaner" ingredients due to years of public health warnings about antibiotics in food. going to burning man can cost burners a pretty penny. on average each person spent about 2-thousand dollars last year. according to the black rock city census, people spent about 6-hundred-
