clinton will win the south carolina democratic primary. preliminary exit polls also revealing that six in ten voters were african-american. of those voters, 84% went for clinton. 16% for vermont senator bernie sanders. abc's david wright is at clinton's victory party in columbia, south carolina. so, david, is the celebrating already underway there? >> reporter: that's right, start. appears hillary clinton absolutely clobbered bernie sanders here in south carolina and already she and sanders are looking ahead to super tuesday. minutes after being declared the winner hillary clinton tweeted her thanks to the voter saying, "we did it, south carolina." today hillary clinton was in fairfield, alabama, looking past bernie sanders, and straight at the republican front-runner. >> i am not going to ask taxpayers to provide free

up to pummel marco rubio. but the florida senator is doubling down, branding trump a con artist, but is it too late to stop the billionaire businessman? here's abc's mary bruce. >> reporter: with his high-profile weapon by his side, new jersey governor chris christie, donald trump unleashed a verbal assault on marco rubio. >> and i watched his lightweight rubio, total lightweight, and a little mouth on him, bing, bing, bing. bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. >> reporter: rubio trying to beat trump at his own game hurling personal insults. >> donald trump likes to sue people. he should sue whoever did that to his face with that -- >> reporter: armed with this new line of attack. >> con artist. con artist. >> con artist. >> friends don't let friends vote for con artists! >> reporter: in georgia, at his largest campaign rally yet rubio called trump a con man more than a dozen times. trump pushed back. >> trump's a con man. trump's a con man. the last man i am is a con man. folks, i built a great business, okay?

trump university, the defunct school facing a $40 million lawsuit. tonight, a new attack ad using that as ammo. >> i paid $30,000 to trump university, and all i got was a picture of myself with a cutout of donald trump. >> reporter: rival ted cruz is piling on, hammering trump for not releasing his tax returns. >> but maybe his tax returns show that he doesn't have quite as much money as he says he has. >> reporter: and trump is taking aim at the media threaten being to weaken first amendment protections for reporters so he can sue them. >> the media, the most dishonest human beings on earth. i'm telling you. >> reporter: but his supporters in tennessee tonight aren't bothered by the attacks. all the new attacks we're hearing from rubio and cruz going after donald trump? >> ain't phasing me a bit. >> reporter: and chris christie just finished his remarks here, donald trump now speaking and

one of those coveted positions. he says soon as he leaves office he wants to sgee the private sector to make money, just like cecilia? >> a big crowd behind you, mary. thank you. jonathan karl joins me, super tuesday just two days away. is it a done deal if donald trump comes in first? >> no. but it will be tight. southern states, cruz banked his whole campaign on. marco rubio can live to fight another day, even if he gets a series of second and third-place finishes because he will continue to get delegates, then moves on to march 15th. winner take all primary in his home state of florida and in ohio, he would have to win there. >> back to the democrats. looking like a landslide for hillary clinton in south carolina. bernie sanders says he's in it all the way to california. when does this race come to an end? >> a big win in south carolina clearly puts hillary on the path to a nomination. she'll probably have similar victories in the other southern

alleged gunman sedrick ford, charged with giving a firearm to a felon. she gave ford her own ac 47 and glock pistol. after the breakup, taken them back and later returned both guns because ford had threatened her. just a month later, ford posting this video to his facebook page, firing an ak-47. ford killed three of his co-workers and injured 14 more before being killed by police chief doug schroeder. adam miller was trying to evacuate his co-workers when he came face-to-face with ford. >> i told him he needs to run, there's a fire, and he -- just looked confused, i told him again. he said, i know and he shot me. >> reporter: miller still recovering in the hospital was shot four times, says he still feels for ford. >> i don't know what he was going through, but -- obviously he felt this was the way out. and so -- my heart just aches for him. >> reporter: just 90 minutes before the shooting, ford was served at work with a restraining order to stay away

claimed he was in desperate need of medical and psychological help. cecilia, excel industries remains closed tonight. no word on when the plant will reopen. cecilia? >> eva, thank you. we turn overseas now to syria, defying all expectations. a cease-fire there holding 24 hours now. here's abc's report from a strangely quiet damascus. >> reporter: children playing tonight in an empty lot on the edge of damascus. none are from here. all forced from their homes in a war that has lasted as long as they can remember. today, this boy told me, they didn't bomb. across syria, the sounds of war. all but disappeared. replaced for now with a quiet that hasn't been heard in years. few believe it can last, but many are praying it does. >> reporter: you're tired of the war? >> in my heart, on my baby -- all. >> reporter: tired of this war?

did continue today. members of the aid group known as the white helmet says they rushed to help people from the infamous barrel bombs. but nearby here in the south, they posted a picture joking that the cease-fire meant they got a day off. today exceeded all expectations. even if this fragile truce falls apart tomorrow it can still be considered a success. a model to build on that could one day bring peace back to this country. cecilia? >> alex, thank you. we turn back here at home, now -- police in california say a drag race on a freeway near los angeles ended in this -- a deadly inferno lighting up the night sky for miles. three people were killed. one of the speeding cars apparently lost control, hitting a big rig, sending the tractor trailer through the divider, and into oncoming traffic. and now to a in a nom none we're seeing more and more. those popular e-cigarettes. some of them exploding suddenly without warning.

one woman's frightening story. >> the car's going to explode! the car's going to explode. >> hang on. where are you? >> reporter: this frantic 911 call coming just in after an e-cigarette apparently exploded inside this car in naples, florida. >> it's huge. it's huge. an e-cigarette blew up while she was smoking it, i guess. >> reporter: authorities say she told them she was smoking a modified e-cigarette when it exploded in her mouth, burning her face and damaging two teeth. >> i had like, char. i pushed the button, and it literally, like, i felt an impact in my face. i saw, like, sparks fly off into the -- passenger side. >> reporter: the government saying millions of americans smoking e-cigarettes. so far more than two dozen fires and explosions reported. at this kentucky gas station this week, josh hamilton says his e-cigarette exploded in his pocket causing second-degree burns, and in new hampshire, fire officials say another explosion nearly set a bedroom ablaze.

when the device's lithium battery is overcharged. >> 80% of all fires involving electronic cigarettes happened >> reporter: currently the fda does not regulate the health and e-cigarettes. there is legislation under would expand fda oversight. cecilia? >> gloria, thank you. we turn next to an alleged impostor accused of fooling an entire pennsylvania high school. tonight, new allegations about the man who posed as a star student, and now questions about his relationship with a teenage girl. abc's candice gibson has more. >> reporter: this young man fooled everyone for years, allegedly pretending to be a high school student, even making the honor roll. now he's behind bars, and tonight facing new charges. police say he is now 23 years old had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl in 2014, now charged with statutory central assault. he has not responded to the
