11:50 pm
fantastic. george: you're a big star right now of the red carpet with this lady behind you. who are you? i'm guessing you're miss -- mrs.s randolph. >> my name is mile. george: this has to be a great moment for both of you. >> when you're with someone you love as much as i do, it's the greatest moment of my life. george: congratulations on your win and now it's time for a little more fashion. >> the oscars weren't -- aren't just about the work but the award-winning fashion. bomani: brie larsen wearing a lingerie-inspired gucci and it was paired with a matching jeweled hair accessory. yu tsai: she was stunning in

11:54 pm
george: all right, welcome back to "on the red carpet after the oscars." it's so loud here when i was talking to charles ran dolph, i identified him as the screenwriter of "spotlight." forgive me, i get a demaret for that. right here is steve dexter, the director of inside-out, which one for best feature film. he's enjoying his award. and he's still talking to another reporter. jovana lara has been reporting with all the stuff online. and she knows about "mad max: fury road." tell us about it. jovana: the summer's smash hit a serious winning streak. josh gad tweeted i love that "mad max: fury road" is killing

11:56 pm
>> we set out to just make a funny film that would hopefully relate to people. a couple of folks have said that they felt the film unlocked some new form of communication, that they were able to talk to their kids for the first time and that was beyond anything i couch imagined. george: is it going to be another three or four years before we see you again? because all your films take a long time to make. >> yeah, i would love if it was less than that. but "toy story" was four and a half. most of them were pretty long. hunker down and do a lot of work. george: where's the first place this will go in your home? >> first, i'm going to takist it back to work and share it with all the amazing people who made the film. this is the second one i've been lucky enough to win. it makes writing my inheritance quite a bit easier.
11:57 pm
george: on and off. pete detective -- docter joining us live. there's a lot going on here. what's going on elsewhere? >> we are live at the elton john aids foundation oscar party. elton john is known for being a legendary musician but also for his fashion creativity and we're seeing plenty of that here tonight. oscar night is known for fashion. what makes for a great outfit? >> i think the woman in the dress. i think if you're having a good night and you feel confident then you are beautiful and that's what makes the dress. >> you look gorgeous. >> you're very kind. thank you. >> what are you wear something >> the wonderful dennis faso. >> i had a stylist bring over a bunch of dresses and this one was something unusual, a little bit more structured and i was
11:58 pm
different. >> for me, my -- are the super bowl of style. iwuhability to wear some color and be interesting. this is the biggest night in fashion so if you're not going to wear it here, where are you going to wear it? i will wear this to a formal bar mittsa a couple of months from now because i have to get some mileage out of it. >> what's the biggest part of it for you? >> just being here. seeing elton john in person and seeing he's an actual human being. the man is amazing. >> he is a real-life human being and he's going to be performing here tonight as well. kelly osbourne posted a picture from inside the party to her instagram with caitlyn jenner, one of the co-chairs of this event. obviously much more involved after what happened last year
11:59 pm
her heart. one of the many stars arriving here. there will be a whole waive of stars -- wave of stars arriving a little bit later. we'll bring you more on that later. let's check in with karl. karl: we are here at "vanity fair." we have everybody rolling down the carpet and we just had a great chat with amy adams and kate bosworth. >> the scroll on the bolt is a little weird for me. i feel like there's an emergency or a snow warning or something, i don't know. but for me, it's always been -- karl: have you ever been starstruck? >> you know, i was at a party the other night. i don't want to -- go to parties that often. but i ran into harry connick jr. and i turned into a 15-year-old girl and i played with my hair a lot and he couldn't be more
12:00 am
12:03 am
but we'll start get >> this is "on the red carpet after the oscars." george: back here live now at the governors ball where about 1,500 guests are still streaming in to oscars' official afterparty but there's another party in town and that's where we find kristen aldridge right now. kristen: the celebrations are in full swing here at the mercedes-benz afterparty at the four seasons in beverly hills. including jamie foxx, wesley anderson. >> happy for all those people that have been nominated. anymore you're with your fellow coworkers and family all at the same event celebrating it makes
12:04 am
>> i always like the glam ire, the flits and glory and the agony of defeat is fun to watch as well. >> it's always special when there are friend of yours being celebrated. >> parties all over los angeles. in west hollywood, the envelope please hosted by ncis star pauley perrette. >> it's like a roomful of philanthropists watching the oscars and raising a lot of money. >> over the years she's raised nearly $2 million for the aids charity in los angeles. up the street, a private home in the hollywood hills benefiting several local charities. >> it's artists meets charities meets celebrating the oscars, celebrating other artists. kristen: back here at the mercedes-benz event, celebs are
12:05 am
party until the wee hours of the morning. >> the ever-beautiful sofia vergara was one of the first to show her ponytail off. it was a perfect accent for the marchesa navy blue gown. yu tsai: slightly more serious than her usually bright colors but she owned it. roshumba: and kerry washington came with a shriek ponytail,
12:08 am
leather versace george: one of the stars of the best picture "spotlight," leave sleeber with naomi watts. there was a conversation going on in that theater over "spotlight" and i think it will continue. do you agree? >> i certainly hope so marty baron said in an article he wrote for the "washington post" that it's hard to walk out of that film and not feel reinvigorated about the potential of journalism. when tom sent me the script i called him immediately and said this is so timely and important that we remember what this is to
12:09 am
this is a very meaningful win for us and i hope as many people as possible see the film. george: i agree, it's a terrific film. do you have those butterflies? >> i think so. but i think this film is so substantial and we all hoped for the best. we already felt like i -- it had achieved so much. it was nice to see it get the recognition it deserves and the awards tonight, they were all spread around and there were so many great films and it's always such a -- it's so great to be part of the oscars but it's sad that not everyone gets one, you know. it was good news that everyone -- george: i know i'm standing in front of two hungry people so please enjoy your time at the
12:10 am
>> thank you very much. george: congratulations on the win for "spotlight" and now let's take you to another party right now. >> we knew the night of 100 stars party was going to be phenomenal but we didn't know we are going to catch some of these moments. >> when i go to "vanity fair" or elton's party it's like people i worked with once but here it's people i i've worked with for 25 years. >> it ain't easy singing and -- at the same time. >> do you mind arm wrestling? >> i do mind. >> oh, come on, just one?
12:13 am
>> george: we are joined here live now with priyanka chopra from the tv show "quantico on abc." she got to sit and watch all during the show. favorite moment? >> my favorite was leonardo dicaprio when he made his speech. brie larson winning and of course "spotlight" because it's my favorite movie of the year. george: what did you think of
12:14 am
>> he was hilarious. obnoxious and funny and all quintessential chris rock. i'm so glad he was unapologetic. george: did you realize the enormity of it? >> everybody knows what the oscars really are. people around the world watch it and i guess i did know but because being in the movie business makes you seasoned with these kinds of things. george: so when you talk to your friends tomorrow about this show, will it be chris rock or one of the speeches you talk about first? >> it will different be chris rock. he was for sure amazing. the way he started the show. wait, did he just say that? that was definitely -- definitelyly the highlight of the show for me and yeah, some of the speeches were really amazing. george: good luck with quantico
12:15 am
now we're going to go to the "vanity fair" party with karl schmid. karl: the stars continue to walk the carpet here and joining me now, hollywood's royalty faye dunaway. good evening. >> nice to see you. karl: nice to see you too. what is the best thing about oscar night? >> the best thing? winning. karl: well, you've son -- won, so you'd know. >> i have won before. it's a night we honor all of the great work that's been done and that's not easy, that work. i'm telling you, what leonardo went through and inarritu, what he's done. it's a strong, difficult effort that you need evening that you have and to get here and find that people see it, appreciate it, get it. it's very, very special. it's beyond. karl: and then you get here to "vanity fair." why is this one of the hottest parties?
12:16 am
knows how to do it up right. he has a wonderful magazine. does fantastic profiles. he's a very serious guy but a lot of fun as well. karl: faye dunaway, you are a big star but do you ever get starstruck and if so, who are you hoping you might rub shoulders with tonight? >> leonardo is fantastic. i know so many of them but, you know, brie larson i would very much like to meet. what a wonderful actress she is. and alicia vikander -- karl: she was great, wasn't she? fantastic. >> they're all in there and it's nice to say hello to them. karl: faye dunaway, thank you very much. enjoy the evening.
12:19 am
karl: george: after the stars win their oscars they have a maze of press to go through before they come to the governors ball. leonardo dicaprio is maneuvering that maze right now. just a short time ago he was in the pressroom talking and here's some of what he said. >> it all feels incredibly surreal. it's surreal because you can't reach out and physically meet everybody. you hear it on the internet and from other people and the truth
12:20 am
strive for the best in what we co--- do but this year in particular, i've been overwhelmed with such support. really truly by so many fans and so many people in the industry. it's quite shocking, actually and what can you say except i'm very grateful, i really am. george: time for one more fashion -- the moment you've been waiting for. shop ba and yu tsai with their best dressed of the night. roshumba: now for our favorite part of the night. oscars' best dressed. yu tsai: my pick may come as a surprise. cate blanchett stole the show with this mermaid gown. with a beautiful clutch made of swarovski crystal and a white feather cleeths the -- completes the look. roshumba: and plan plan was also
12:21 am
every detail was to perfection. out couture at its finest. yu tsai: margo confused the heck out of me. was she there to present the golden statue or be the golden statue? roshumba: and my biggest miss was rooney mara. she sticks to her boring color pal let. too much. long sleeves, a mermaid skirt, roughles and a big cutout in the middle. i didn't know where to look. yu tsai: it was a night of amazing stars and unforgettable fashion. roshumba: and we'll see you right back here next year on the red carpet. jim: and here we are with our last oscar winner of the show, alicia vikander from "the danish girl." how does it feel to have that oscar in your hand now that it's been a couple of hours? >> i'm still very overwhelmed. i looked down and it's got my name on it.
12:22 am
like an oscar and i can't get my head around it but it's wonderful and i'm so happy to be here with my wonderful colleagues and hoping to go out and celebrate tonight. george: sounds like one of the best nights of your life. >> it's been extraordinary. my family and friends are here and i'm going to go find them. george: congratulations on your oscar. and that's going to do it for "on the red carpet after the oscars." we thank you so much for joining us. from the reporters, myself, and the crew we can't say thank you enough and we'll see you again next year, right here, same time, same place "on the red carpet after the oscars."
12:26 am
live in the shadow of the hollywood sign, welcome to the dolby theatre, and the oscars. >> start proceeding with the countdown. >> strap in. >> ten. nine. eight. seven. >> hang on. >> five. four. three. two. one. >> each person you speak to has had a day. some of the days have been good. some bad. what is it to be human? what is it to be alive? >> tell me why it's so important for it to say hello? >> no one said the job's supposed to be easy. >> no one said it's supposed to
12:27 am
>> we'll figure it out. >> we'll use the force. >> that's not how the force works! >> i blew myself up. >> woo! >> because i'm stupid. >> that's not stupidity. that's fraud. >> tell me the difference between stupid and illegal and i'll have my wife's brother arrested. >> be careful with that. >> it's okay. it's not loaded. >> what if you had the chance to find out how big we could really be? >> i got something to say. >> is that the best you can do? >> what a lovely day! >> do you have your seat belt on? >> you're asking me that now? >> sorry about that. needed to let off a little steam.
12:28 am
>> believe me. they're all looking at you. >> you're the only one who sees the world in the same way i do. >> no one sees the world the same way you do. >> you see this guy here staring back at you? that's your toughest opponent. i believe that in boxing and i do believe that in life. >> i can do this. >> i can do this. >> you're going to love it. >> what? >> the world. >> ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your host, chris rock!
12:29 am
thank you, thank you, thank you! woo! man, i counted at least 15 black people on that montage. hey! well, i'm here at the academy awards. otherwise known as the white people's choice awards. you realize if they nominated hosts, i wouldn't even get this job. y'all be watching neil patrick harris right now. but this is -- this is the wildest, craziest oscars to ever host, because you have all this controversy, the no -- no black nominees, you know? and people are like, chris, you should boycott, chris, you should quit, you should quit. you know, how come it's only
12:30 am
to quit something, you know? no one with a job ever tells you to quit. so, i thought about quitting. i thought about it real hard. but i realized, they're going to have the oscars anyway. they're not going to cancel the oscars because i quit. you know? and the last thing i need is to lose another job to kevin hart, okay? i don't need that. kev -- kev right there. kev make movies fast. every month. porno stars don't make movies that fast. now, the thing is, why are we protesting -- the big question, why this oscars? why this oscars, you know? it's the 88th academy awards. it's the 88th academy awards, which means -- this whole no black nominees thing has
12:31 am
okay? you got to figure that it happened in the '50s, in the '60s. you know, in the '60s, one of those years, sidney didn't put out a movie. i'm sure -- i'm sure there were no black nominees, some of those years. say 62 or 63 and black people did not protest. why? because we have real things to protest at the time. you know? we have real things to protest. you know? too busy being raped and lynched to care about who won best cinematographer. you know, when you -- when your grandmother's swinging from a tree, it's really hard to care about best documentary foreign short. but what happened this year? what happened? people went mad, you know? spike got mad and jada went mad
12:32 am
you know? like -- jada got mad, jada says she's not coming, protesting, i'm like -- doesn't she have a tv show? jada boycotting the oscars is like me boycotting rihanna's panties. i wasn't invited. oh, that's -- it's not an invitation i would turn down. but i understand, i -- i'm not hating. i understand you're mad. jada is mad. her man was not nominated. i get it. i get it. you get mad. said it's not fair that will was this good and doesn't get nominated. you're right. it is also not fair that will was paid $20 million for "wild
12:33 am
okay? you know, this year, the oscars, things are going to be a little different. things are going to be a little different at the oscars. this year, in the in memoriam package, it's just going to be black people that were shot on their way to the movies. yes. yes. i said it. all right? hey, if you want black nominees every year, you need to just have black categories. you need to have black you already do it with men and women. think about it. there's no real reason for there to be a man and a woman category in acting. it's -- come on! there's no reason!
12:34 am
you don't have to separate them. you know, robert de niro's never said, i better slow this acting down so meryl streep can catch up. no. not at all, man. if you want black people every year at the oscars, just have black categories, like best black friend. that's right. and the winner for the 18th year in a row is wanda sikes. this is wanda's 18th black oscar. but here's the real question. the real question everybody wants to know, everybody wants to know, in the world, is hollywood racist? is hollywood racist? you know, that's -- that's a -- you know, you got to go at that at the right way. is it burning cross racist? no. is it fetch me some lemonade racist? no, no. it's a different type of racist. now, i remember one night i was at a fund-raiser for president obama, a lot of you were there,
12:35 am
of hollywood. and all the, you know, it's all of us there and there's about four black people there, me, let's see, quincy jones, russell simmons, quest love, you know, the usual suspects, right? and every black actor that wasn't working. needless to say, kev hart was not there, okay? so, at some point, you get to take a picture with the president. and as they're setting up the picture, you get a little moment with the president, i'm like, mr. president, you see all these writers and producers and actors? they don't hire black people. and they're the nicest white people on earth. they're liberals. cheese. that's right. is hollywood racist? you're damn right hollywood's racist. but it isn't the racist you've grown accustomed to.
12:36 am
it's like -- we like you, rhonda, but you're not a cappa. that's how hollywood is. but things are changing. things are changing. yeah, we got a black rocky this year. some people call it "creed," i call it black rocky. and that's a big -- that's an unbelievable statement, i mean, because rocky takes place in a world where white athletes are as good as black athletes. rocky's a science fiction movie. there are things that happened in "star wars" that are more believable than things that happened in "rocky." we're here to honor actors. we're here to honor film. and there's a lot of snubs. a lot of snubs. one of the biggest snubs no one's talking about, my favorite actor in the world is paul
12:37 am
i believe he's the greatest actor in the world. think about what he's done. last year, he's in "12 years a slave," hates black people. this year, he's in "straight outta compton," loves black people. last year, he's whooping lupita, this year, he's crying and easy-e's funeral. that's range. ben affleck can't do that. but what i'm trying to say is, you know, it's not about boycotting anything, it's just, we want opportunity. we want the black actors to get the same opportunities as white actors. that's it. that's it. you know? just -- you know, not just once, you know? leo gets a great part every year. and, you know, and -- everybody -- all you guys get great parts all the time. but what about the black actors?
