biggest moment yet in the republican race for president, and donald trump, feeling invincible. >> every poll shows i can do practically anything, maybe even anything and nobody's going to leave. >> reporter: in ohio today, trump gushing about his throngs of supporters. >> there is such love in those rooms and those stadiums and those areas that i speak. it's actually easy. there's love. it's like -- it's like a family. it's love. >> reporter: but love, not a word to describe the nasty current running through some trump rallies. in virginia, the billionaire asking one protester if she's mexican. >> are you from mexico? are you from mexico? right smack in the middle of my punch line. >> reporter: a "time" magazine photographer trying to capture the protests, thrown to the ground by a secret service agent. the agent claiming the photographer wasn't following the rules. the agency still investigating. and on the trail, campaign rhetoric hitting a new low. for trump and senator marco

playground. >> i watched this lightweight rubio, total lightweight. little mouth on him. bing, bing, bing. bing, bing, bing, bing. >> i don't understand why his hands are the size of someone who is 5'2". have you seen his hands? they're like this. and you know what they say about men with small hands. you can't trust them. >> he said i had small hands? they're not small, are they? i never heard -- i never heard that one before. i've always had people say, donald, you have the most beautiful hands. right? >> reporter: but the moment that's jolted the republican party? trump's response to receiving the support of former ku klux klan grand wizard david duke. trump, first saying this. >> i didn't even know he endorsed me. david duke endorsed me? okay, all right. i disavow, okay? >> reporter: but then, saying this. >> i don't know -- honestly, i don't know david duke. i don't believe i've ever met him. i'm pretty sure i didn't meet him. and i just don't know anything
6:05 pm
>> reporter: now, the country's two most powerful republicans saying they've heard enough. delivering an extraordinary rebuke of their party's front-runner. >> let me make it perfectly clear. senate republicans condemn david duke, the kkk and his racism. >> if a person wants to be the nominee of the republican party, there can be no evasion and no games. they must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry. >> reporter: on the stump, trump's rivals joining the chorus. senator ted cruz speaking with abc's byron pitts. >> i think anyone should have been willing to immediately denounce the klan, and it was unfortunate that he didn't do so. he's better than that. >> reporter: rubio vowing to fight trump until the bitter end. >> i will get in my pickup truck and drive around this country if i have to, before i allow the party of lincoln and reagan to fall into the hands of a con man. >> reporter: the only candidate who doesn't sound rattled? trump himself.
6:06 pm
interview with "gma." >> there's nobody that's done so much for equality as i have. you take a look at palm beach, florida, i built the mar-a-lago club. totally open to everybody. a club that, frankly, set a new standard, a new standard in clubs and a new standard in palm beach. >> donald trump on "gma" this morning. tom llamas live in our election headquarters in times square tonight. and we saw it there from marco rubio, ted cruz, members of the establishment trying to take down donald trump. but a string of victories for trump, it would appear it's too late. >> reporter: that's right, david. clearly those attacks didn't work in at least five super tuesday states. but rubio calling donald trump a con man. and senator ted cruz tonight saying he's the only candidate who has been able to beat trump in two states, iowa and now texas. >> tom, see you in a short time from now. tom, thank you. now to the democrats tonight. hillary clinton with several wins this evening, speaking to her supporters just moments
6:07 pm
and tonight, perhaps a new message, how she's pivoting to donald trump. and senator sanders vowing to take this all the way to the convention. abc's cecilia vega with hillary clinton, just moments ago. here's what clinton said. >> reporter: tonight, a smiling hillary clinton, declaring victory. >> thank you all so much. what a super tuesday! you know -- all across our country today, democrats voted to break down barriers, so, we can all rise together. and -- >> reporter: in minnesota today, >> smile! >> reporter: taking every last selfie. >> you want to get a selfie? >> i would love to get a selfie. >> let's do it. >> reporter: she may still be running against bernie sanders,

6:10 pm
number of voters to weigh in. in fact, estimates, nearly 14 million people expected to cast a vote in super tuesday races. abc's chief white house correspondent jonathan karl standing by at the super tuesday wall. jon, you've been pouring through the exit polls. first, what the voters are saying about the qualities they want to see in a presidential candidate. >> reporter: yeah, this is very interesting. super tuesday republican voters are saying that what they want more than anything is a candidate who shares their values. followed closely by somebody who will bring change to washington. but david, look at this. very last on the list of what they're looking for is somebody who can win in november. just 12% saying they are looking for the candidate that can win in november. now, in terms of outsider versus insider, you have a majority of republicans, or 50%, saying they would like an outsider. for democrats, only 14% say they want an outsider. in terms of political experience, take a look at this. republicans don't care that much about political experience, just
6:11 pm
82% of democratic voters on this super tuesday say they want a candidate with political experience. >> and jon, in the meantime, you've got the map there. the republican map and you've been telling us all night, keep your eye on texas. we just called it for ted cruz and boy did he need this. >> reporter: absolutely. that is his home state. 155 delegates. the biggest prize today. he absolutely needed it. but there's something else to watch, david. marco rubio must get to 20% in texas, or he will get locked out and he can get none of the delegates. look where he is right now. 24%. if he can hold that, he'll come away with delegates, as well. >> all right, jon karl, i'll see you at 10:00 eastern, as well. in the meantime, in texas, where everything is bigger, including his role tonight, the biggest rise, of course, went to ted cruz, as jon just mentioned. abc's byron pitts in houston this evening, and we're learning of yet another victory tonight. >> reporter: well, david, that's right. we understand that cruz is the projected winner in oklahoma. that is huge for the people here.
6:12 pm
announced that cruz was the projected winner in texas. all day, voter turnout has been heavy all across the state of texas. take a look at this video from this evening in houston. even as the polls were about to close tonight, the lines were still long. david, we expect to hear from senator cruz soon. he will make the case that he is now the viable candidate for the republican party, because he's won now in more than one state. >> and in fact we can hear the cheers behind you, byron. so, let's show everyone at home. based on our analysis so far, senator cruz picking up a victory tonight in the republican primary in oklahoma, you can see it right there. we're now projecting that ted cruz will win oklahoma. he has won his home state of texas, as well. these were very crucial wins, and a lot of focus on who comes in second, donald trump with a number of victories tonight. that is ed the cruzed cruz. let's go to paula faris, in palm beach
6:13 pm
moments from now? >> reporter: yes, a wild party with all this press in here, david. but five states for trump. the campaign says they are happy. the big takeaway for them is the number of first-time voters and crossover voters. he is expected to speak any moment now. he spent the earlier part of today campaigning in ohio and kentucky. but the significance of where his headquarters are tonight, david, shouldn't be lost on any of us. this is marco rubio's home state. they vote two weeks from today and trump already has a commanding lead in all of the polls. >> two weeks from tonight. and florida plays an important role in the primaries, but come the general election. left's get to linsey davis in miami, senator marco rubio with one more rally there tonight. and we know rubio in the last 24 to 48 hours, trying to dish out a lot of what we typically hear from donald trump, but so far tonight, it would appear it's not working. >> reporter: that's right. because he still hasn't won any states, but you cannot tell,
6:14 pm
you see behind me, marco rubio, still very enthusiastic, very energetic, as is the crowd here tonight. and very much downplaying the idea that they needed a win on super tuesday, basically, he's just forward looking to the florida primary, which is just two weeks away. and this is a must-win for marco rubio, as you know, david. >> yeah, we cannot underscore that. florida a must-win for rubio, two weeks from tonight. thank you. and to the super tuesday storm we're tracking. a lot of weather trouble out there for voters, in fact. look at these images coming in, a possible tornado hitting south of birmingham, alabama. voteing halted for a time. also damaging hail in oklahoma. this is moving across the south. it couldn't come at a worse time. further north, in chicago, this plane sliding off the runway. no injuries. but meteorologist rob marciano tracking all of this and the travel problems coming tomorrow. rob?
6:15 pm
david. we do have a severe weather threat. not a huge outbreak, but it's going to impact some states that are having primaries right now. including alabama, northern georgia, parts of tennessee, maybe even virginia. birmingham to atlanta, chattanooga, knoxville, certainly some cities that'll be impacted over the next few hours. here's the front passing over the appalachian mountain chain, with those showers and thunderstorms. snow is from chicago to detroit, upstate new york. but tomorrow morning, the rush from new york to d.c. will be a bit of a mess. david? >> you'll be tracking it. rob, thank you. much more ahead on "world news tonight" this tuesday. erin andrews' tearful testimony, defending herself on the stand. the sports reporter and "dancing with the stars" host, breaking down again. suing over an invasion of privacy. the defense today with a grling cross examination, and you're about to hear it. the kidnapping suspect chased by police in the west. escaping during a standoff with officers. that manhunt is under way at this hour and we're take you to the scene. and look at this image tonight. a gift from someone coming back after a long journey away from home. astronaut scott kelly with one last look out the window. and this question tonight -- how do they play ping-pong in
