tonight: partly cloudy, with a low around 40. breezy, with a car at the intersection of neil and peckham. according to reno police, the person was crossing the street outside the crosswalk when they were hit. the driver of the car, stayed with the pedestrian. the pedestrian was taken to a hospital...no word yet on their condition. ### the national safety council says in 20-15... we saw an increase in fatal traffic crashes not seen since 2007. a whopping 14-percent increase nationwide. the n-s-c points to several reasons for the increase. researhers say a better economy has more people on the road traveling to and from work. gas prices mean more people are taking their cars on vacations or other destinations.

fatal accidents--accounting for more than 20- percent of those fatalities. here in the truckee meadows despite these pressures, reno pd says fatal accidents have leveled off in the last five years. p.d. "looking at the numbers prior to this interview, we've actually seen pretty good numbers for reno, in that we haven't seen any significant increase or decrease in fatality accidents or two pedestrain leveled off in the last few years. while there are hands free devices for drivers, the national safetly council says talking while driving hands free can be a distraction. consoles in the front of the car are more complex and have more information contained on them forcing the driver to look away from the road. sparks police is asking for your help-- to identify a man they believe is involved in a false imprisonment case. police say officers were called to the western village casino for a possible case of indecent exposure. when they met with the

them she got in the car with this man. she tried to get out--- when felt uncomfortable, but he held her inside. she managed to get out, and told casino security. the man drove off in a silver four door sedan. if you know who this man is, please call the sparks police department or secret witness 322-4900. ### a missing douglas county woman was found dead. 69 year old carolyn batchelor has been missing for almost two weeks. the california highway patrol found her s-u-v in the area of "inspiration point" a couple days after she was first reported missing. on saturday, search crews found her body buried under snow, close to where her s- u-v was found. her cause of death is unknown, but investigators don't suspect foul play. we now know the name of the woman-- who was killed at squaw valley over the weekend. 62-year-old elizabeth danel suffered multiple injuries on saturday-- while skiing, in the "headwall" area.

when she slid through a stand of trees. ski patrol says she was unconscious when they arrived on scene. they began c-p-r-- but danel was pronounced dead, an hour later. ### a sparks city councilwoman is hoping to fill the seat left by late senator debbie smith. today, julia ratti announced her candidacy for state senate district 13. smith's daughter erin ratti to consider running because she cares deeply about the same issues smith did. smith died on february 20th after battling a brain tumor. candidate filing starts next week. reno councilman and vice mayor---- oscar delgado-- announced he is running for re- election. he was first elected to the council in 20-12. delgado says his main focus over the past year has been hashtag neighborgood #neighborgood... an intiative to improve the quality of life in reno's neighborhoods. ### ?are you one of the many people sneezing lately because of allergies?

unfamiliar with care chest of sierra nevada. but for the past 25 years it's been making a big difference in the lives of people in need of medical supplies and devices they can't afford. it's store room at the far end of north virginia street is stocked with all sorts of items--many donated, some purchased--which are often beyond the means of those on fixed incomes or without insurance. items like wheel chairs, equipment to help a client get in and out of a shower safely, can make the difference between enabling someone to remain at home, rather than seek professional care. stanton: "we think our services prevent hospitalizations, prevent emergency room visits and enable a level of compassionate care that otherwise wouldn't be possible." the non-profit is marking its 25th anniversary this week with it's annual fundraiser--an executive kidnapping.

in the meantime, if you want to know more about care chest--perhaps you have an item someone else could use--you'll find more information on our website kolo-tv.com under 'hot topics.' twenty nevada schools will receive 14 point one million dollars from the "nevada ready 21" digital learning initiative. the program gives each student in participating middle schools 24 hour access to a laptop. here's a list of northern nevada schools who received the grant. students will receive their laptop in the beginning of the 2016- 2017 school year. those "welcome to nevada" signs could soon look a little different. nevada's high school students are being asked to create a new sign that shows off the nevada brand and creates a friendly welcome for travelers. students enrolled in the c-t-e level 2 or higher graphic arts courses, although each school may determine eligibility. for more information

a new home in the big leagues... he signed a minor league deal with the mariners, but is at the spring training right now with a shot at making their roster... he was with the nationals last season, and the phillies before that... lerud has only played in nine career big leagues games, since being drafted back in 2004 the arizona diamondbacks have signed rickie weeks to a minor league deal... and he's expected to start the season here in triple-a reno... weeks has a ton of big league experience, and was an all-star back in 2011.... weeks has a .247 career batting average, 150 home runs and 439 runs batted in during his 12- year major league career. yankees closer aroldis chapman has been suspended 30 games by major league baseball... it's for violating the domestic violence policy... it stems from an incident with his girlfriend back in october... chapman is a four-time all-star... it's an historic day for the wolf pack...
