flooding in louisiana. this morning, there's more rain on the way to the devastated region. and passengers were sent rushing out of jfk airport late last night with their hands up, over reports of a shooting. it was just a false alarm, but flights were backed up for hours. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. more violence broke out overnight in milwaukee where protesters are demonstrating, after a black police officer shot and killed a black man. one protester was shot and rescued by police. one police officer was injured when a rock smashed his windshield. and at least one car was set ablaze. police made multiple arrests. neighbors on milwaukee's north side cleared debris on sunday after several cars and buildings were set on fire sunday night, -- saturday night, including a gas station that was burned to

dozens of protesters spurred on by posts on social media. the violence started a few hours earlier after a police officer shot and killed silva smith during a traffic stop on saturday afternoon. police say the 23-year-old, with at least 13 prior arrests, ran, refused to stop, and had a loaded gun in his hand. the mayor pleaded for peace moving forward. >> so if you love your son, you love your daughter, you love your grandchild, tell them to stay away from this area. >> reporter: the milwaukee un national guard be activated, saying another night of violence cannot be allowed to happen. >> i'm not going to get caught like ferguson and baltimore and not going to happen because you will say it doesn't seem like you guys had -- were prepared for this and what am i going to say? >> reporter: police made 17 arrests overnight and four officers were hurt, along with a 16-year-old girl hit by a spray -- stray bullet. people in the community say

a mentally ill black man. >> the black people of milwaukee are tired. they are tired living under this oppression. >> reporter: the state is now investigating saturday's shooting. meanwhile, a manhunt this morning for the killer of a police officer in georgia. officer tim smith was shot to death saturday night in eastman, that is about 60 miles southeast of macon. investigators identified the suspect as 24-year-old roy hill deed. police say the officer was responding to a report of a killed. at least five people have died so far in the tragic flooding in louisiana. the governor says rescuers have saved 20,000 people. there are flood warnings right now across southern louisiana, including the cities of baton rouge and lafayette. don champion reports from baton rouge. >> reporter: floodwaters have shown little mercy on southeast louisiana. torrential rains over the weekend left entire

northern california has forced 4,000 people in two towns from their homes. the so-called clayton fire is burning this morning in lower lake, about 100 miles north of san francisco. hena daniels reports. >> reporter: a fast moving wildfire has destroyed several homes and businesses in lower lake, california. and forced thousands of residents to flee. >> that is where our house was right there. >> reporter: some people are just starting to see the devastation around them. >> this is where we all grew up, you know? >> all we know. >> our whole life and our neighbors. look what they have to come home to, it's horrible. absolutely horrible. >> reporter: emergency crews are trying to contain the blaze that has already destroyed 3,000 acres from the ground and the air. >> we are seeing, everything, unfortunately, burn right now. grass, vegetation, homes, structures, cars and experiencing propane tank explosions. >> reporter: the fire jumped the

the four block strip of main street quickly became ground zero, after dozens of cars and the post office, a winery, and habitat for humanity went up in flames. >> all these fires are, just erupting so fast, people can't even think. >> reporter: a second wildfire near lake massamento in central california has destroyed at least 20 homes and threatened 150 more. triple-digit temperatures and shifting winds and dry brush are making it hard for fir to battle the flames. a fire weather watch is in effect for parts of california through wednesday. several evacuation centers have been set up. the red cross has also brought in cots for those who want to sleep indoors. others say they plan to sleep overnight in their cars and trucks. >> thank you very much. the shooting scare late last night at one of new york city's airports turned out to be a false alarm.

at john f. kennedy international airport around 9:30 last night and shortly afterward closed terminal one. they received reports of shots fired near the departure gates but found no evidence of a shooting. some travelers ran for the exits in panic. the faa ordered a ground stop at the airport and inbound flights were delayed. the latest cbs news battleground tracker poll has good news for hillary clinton. in florida, she extended her lead over donald trump and is now five points ahead, up two points f in new hampshire, clinton is dominating by nine points. in georgia, a traditionally republican state, trump has a four-point advantage, but clinton is closer than in most presidential races. the trump campaign is facing new criticism this morning for alleged links to pro moscow political operatives in ukraine. "the new york times" reports a secret ledger itemizes cash given to trump's campaign chairman paul manafort.
