good evening, thank you for joining us. we want to take a moment to welcome our viewers on . good evening everybody, thank you for joining us tonight. we want to welcome our viewers on cbs 5. >> we are one news operation powered by two stations. we want to get to our top story tonight. the family of a gilbert couple jailed over the death of 23 dogs >> interesting twist to this story. it's been going on since june 2014. the animallings died at the family's boarding kennel in gilbert. the couple was sentenced this month to 60 days in jail. jesse is serving his term and his wife starts hers in january. >> a family member start add page asking for donations to help get them back on track.

explain. >> reporter: this is the fundraiser and it's raised nearly $200. the goal is $50,000 to help the family turn over a new leaf after tragedy struck the kennel nearly two years ago. a nightmare and accident is how hughes brother describes the death of 23 dogs at the kennel she ran with her husband todd. >> it's not. they pled guilty to criminal charges. >> reporter: the they very different language after learn the family started and online fundraiser. >> my clients did not expect to see a poston internet about a fundraiser, their picture and how they're asking people for money. >> reporter: the new fundraiser admits mistakes were made and lies were told but says the hughes will serve their time

straight oo into a pole. all three passengers were rushed to the hospital and one didn't survive. >> the light rail is back up and running after a crash with an ambulance early tore day in downtown tempe. no patients were inside the ambulance at the time but a couple people on the trail suffered minor injuries in the crash. police on scene said they would site the ambulance driver. you about a shooting near a church in guadaloupe. no one was hurt and suspects are still being questioned. the npso believes the shooting was gang related. >> scary moments for a phoenix woman after she was woke up by smoke detectors. >> while she made it out her

jessica has the latest. >> yeah, jared areally lucky home owner tonight. this is in the area of cade creek and greenway. the fire broke out in her home, blairing alarms going off. the fire started in the kitchen actually. we're in a 55 plus community and when fire officials got here they said they had a really hard time getting through the front door. they managed to make because the owner had a lot of keep sakes block the entrances. thankfully she woke up to the sound of those alarms which is what the fire officials say saved her. >> the home other than was visibly shooken up. she was laying down taking a nap. the smoke alarms alerted her. we're getting into the winter months and it's a great time of the year to check your smoke

batteries. >> reporter: just a great safety reminder tonight to make sure your smoke detectors are in good working order. she suffered minor burns to her arm. a few cats did not make it out but it could have been worse. jessica parsons. >> the gunman suspected of opening fire inside a mall in washington state is in custody. four women and a man were killed last night. police are still trying to figure out a motive. we're work information and we'll have more on this story coming up at 10:30. >> police in charlotte, north carolina have released some of the video officers recorded in the minutes leading up to the fatal shooting of a blackman on tuesday. >> family members of keith lamont scott say they're left with more questions than answers. >> reporter: dashcam video shows the police officers

the gun and you hear a woman saying he doesn't have a gun. scott gets out of the suv, his hands at his side as he backs away and you please continue to hear someone yell drop the gun and shots are fired. from another angle you see a police officer pointing gun at scott while he stands outside his car. the police chief said scott had a gun in his hand but that cannot be seen on there was a photograph of a released and it showed scott's dna and fingerprints on the gun. they noticed scott with marijuana and a gun. >> we're release the objective facts. >> don't shoot him. don't shoot him. he has no weapon. >> reporter: scott's wife insists he did not have a gun. family members say they were

. all w an 8-year-old girl in maryland knew what to do after her mom suffered a stroke. >> time is everything here. she just learned how to recognize the warning signs. she ended up saving her mom's life. >> i have to talk about my life too. >> reporter: she loves to talk which support a bad thing considering the 8-year-old's communication skills saved her mom's life. >> she's very special to me

five people at a washington mall has been taken into custody. >> he has been identified and taken into custody around 6:30 tonight after a deputy spotted him walking down the sidewalk. >> reporter: authorities have captureed the man believed to be responsible for the mass shooting at a washington friday night. four women were shot ked in the make up area at macy's and a man died later. shopers fled and hid in changing rooms and other stores. >> it was a shot and two seconds later another shot. >> reporter: police say surveillance video shows the alleged shooter arriveing at the mall without a gun. the victims range in age from a teenager to senior citizens.

it was the world knocking on our door step and it came to our little community here. >> reporter: the fbi helped in the ser please for the suspect. . >> and in san francisco, the civic center is returning to normal tonight after a six hour standoff. an armed and suicidal man forced police to evacuate the area. this all started called 911 to say he was going to hurt himself and any officeer who came close to him. he gave up and surrendered. >> we're following a couple developing stories here in the valley tonight including fire investigation at a warehouse in phoenix. the building near clarendon was badly damaged.

>> a man stumbled into a fire station after being shot in phoenix. that man is expected to be okay and we're working to get more information about a possible suspect and motive in the shooting. >> a reminder right now, phoenix police are searching for a serial shooter in phoenix. here is a sketch of the suspect and a $75,000 reward is being offered in this case. police say even the sll use the link on our 3 tv news app. >> new surveillance video showing two men trying to break into vehicles in a phoenix neighborhood tonight. one of them opened fire on a neighbor who tried to stop them >> reporter: early in the morning of september 3rd, a valley man opened his door to walk to his car.

were breaking into neighborhood cars. he got into some sort of an altercation with the two men when one of them shot him in the chest. >> we don't have any indications there was relationship between this. this started as a property crime and the victim was shot in the chest. this could have been a homicide. we're thankful he survived but he has a long road in front of him. that is concerning police say they need to catch up with these two men and they're hoping this new video will do it. if you have information about the shooting call silent witness at 480-witness. you can call anonymously and there is a reward up to a thousand dollars for information. >> sheriff joe arpaio and his posse are out on a special call
