if you saw thick, black smoke billowing into the air last night in the east valley .. this is why ... an apartment complex that was being built in gilbert .... destroyed in this massive fire near gilbert and guadalupe. that fire and the smoke could be seen from miles away .... and here is what it looked like from the air. our penquin air and plumbing chopper getting this

this fire got. it started about 7-o- clock last night. firefighters say getting that fire under control was challenged by the fact that the 3-story building was still under construction. so part of the complex was still in the framing stage, so it was nothing but wood. 4 to 5 of the buildings were burned ot the ground. as many as 30 people living in that complex were forced to leave their homes. it could be days, if not weeks, before we know how that fire started. and this may sou familiar? last night's fire is just a few miles away from another massive apartment fire in gilbert back in april. that complex .. near gilbert road and civic center drive... was also under construction at the time. crews were building a 256- unit complex... with at least seven buildings. most of them ...collapsed and burned to the ground. fire investigators say that fire... was probably started by a roofer's torch by accident.

avenue and hatcher. they say he matched the description of the suspect... accused of killing a 36- year-old man just two nights ago. "coho" is now facing second degree murder charges. a teenager and two young children are still in the hospital this morning.. after getting hit by a car. it happened yesterday afternoon.. near 35th avenue and dunlap. police say the 15-year-old.. five-year-old.. and two-year- old were all rushed to the hospital.. with serious injuries. the driver remat police are investigating the crash.. but say alcohol was not a factor. a man was shot in his own home and police say this started a random homei nvasion. and one year after the murder of a native american icon .. his family is still searching for answers. "jess sixkiller" was at his home.. near 55th avenue and camelback.. when a someone made their way inside... and shot him.

four people are dead.. after a truck crashed through a guard-rail.. and fell 60-feet off a highway bridge.. in san diego. the truck landed in a packed city park.. where a biker festival was happening. police

all in a tent below the bridge. seven other people were hurt. the driver of the truck was arrested.. for suspected d-u-i. people in nevada have been forced from their homes.. because of a wildfire. firefighters say the fire sparked friday morning.. near "washoe valley." it has burned at least three-thousand acres.. and is now 20-percent contained. multiple buildings have been destroyed.. but no one was hurt. unknown. now to l-a... where a birthday party ended in a deadly shooting. l-a-p-d says dozens of people had gathered at a home for a party.. when three people were asked to leave. officers say those three later returned with guns.. and started shooting. the group at the party fired back.. and a shootout occurred. three people were killed.. and 12 others were hurt. a man and a woman were taken in to police

rescue crews will be back at "fossil creek".. in hopes of finding two people.. who went missing yesterday evening. the gila county sheriff's office received a call.. that two people in their early 30's.. may have drowned at the falls. gila county divers and the arizona department of public safety helicopter will help in that search. friends and family are mourning the loss of two teenagers killed.. in a car crash friday night in glendale. two other teenagers were hurt. lauren reimer has more. gone." going back to school on monday.

sunny skies with warmer than average daytime highs are in the forecast sunday through next week across arizona. high pressure and southwesterly winds are the

winds will be breezy in northern arizona again sunday, with the strongest gusts at around 40 m.p.h. along and north of the mogollon rim. by next wednesday and thursday, a dry cold front will sweep across arizona, resulting in breezy winds statewide. high pressure will build back into the region towards the end normal levels once again. in the valley, look for afternoon highs in the low to mid 90s with morning lows in the upper 50s and low 60s. the normals right now are 89 degrees for the high and 65 degrees for the low. the rest of the state will continue to see daytime highs about five degrees

what will become arizona's tallest fresh- cut decorated christmas tree... is making its way to the valley. the tree at the "outlets at anthem" has been chosen... and on october 20th.. they will hold the annual tree arrival ceremony.. at six-30 a-m. the tree is 80-feet high.. and will take a 10-person team.. and more than 120-hours to decorate. the 15th annual christmas tree lighting will take place if you're watching on channel five... we welcome you to turn over to channel three for the rest of the show because we're just getting warmed up here on good morning arizona!
