[cheers and applause] >> the crowd went crazy after he took to the stage to thank his supporters. this is a rematch for these two. they went head to head in 2012. penzone lost the race by six percentage points then. >> it was about fundamentally sound perspective on how law enforcement should be done. it seen that the community wasn't happy. we need to remove the conversation. >> he is looking forward to restoring the public's confidence. joe arpaio said it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people as sheriff of maricopa county for 24-hours. we want to congratulate paul on his victory and look forward to working with him on a seamless transition. senator john mccain won another seat in the seat. he won by 53% of the vote.

being declared the winner. he thanked his supporters for their vote, their encouragment and the opportunity to serve arizona for so many years. we asked him what it means to be re-elected for a sixth term? >> it means a chance for me to continue to serve and use my background and experience and knowledge in these difficult, challenging times in >> mccain told the crowd there is a lot of work to be done with the country so divided. has hoping to go to washington and ease the divisiveness in our country. arizona voted down marijuana. a similar issue passed in california, massachusetts and nevada. it lost by a fairly narrow margin in our state. voters approved a plan to increase the state's minimum

prop 206 will eventually raise arizona's minimum wage to $12 an hour by the year 2020. we have more on what that will mean. >> reporter: once the plan starts to take affect in the new year, workers in all industries, including the fast food industry, are going to see the minimum wage increase to $12 an hour over a period of four years. i want to break down how this is going to work few year. ? that wage will increase to $10 an hour in january. $10.50 in 2018. $11.00 in 2019. $12 in 2020. supporters say it will give workers a living, healthy wage so they don't have to make the touch decision to pay for food or the bill. prop 206 mandates employers to provide six times. critics warn voters the measure

absorb a 50% increase in labor costs. earlier we spoke to people on both sides of the issue. >> i don't believe we need a minimum wage at all. i believe if we have a minimum wage we should have one lower for trainees and young people. simple fact is you get minimum wage up $12 an hour who is going to hire somebody that doesn't know how to zip their pants up? >> i feel everybody chance. i'm for if underdog. >> reporter: minimum wage is $17,000 a year per worker. a million workers don't get paid sick time. back to you. >> thank you very much. it looks like sheriff joe arpaio won't be the only long time county official shown the door after yesterday's elections. a series of election mistakes caught up with the county recorder. 94% of the precincts reporting.

welcome back. a massive fire engulfed a former bethlehem steel plant south of buffalo, new york. a black plume of smoke could be seen for miles. explosions could be heard before the roof collapsed. hundreds of firefighters worked to control this blaze. good news no one was hurt. there is no word on a cause. a man suspected of killing a police officer is dead after a shootout with police. the man held someone hostage, as well. jeff has more. >> reporter: many people in the small town are in shock that an officer would lose his life in such a horrific way. this is the scene where it all ended. this is where the suspect was held up inside of the cabin you are looking at right there. he was held up there for several hours before s.w.a.t. opened fire on him and took him

the scene last night. again, this is in lake of the woods in lake side. cops swarmed this cabin. this is where the suspect daniel ericson was help up with a 15-year-old hostage. s.w.a.t. teams were brought in. they tried to negotiate with this guy for several hours. suspect was firing on them several times. finally s.w.a.t. returned fire and killed the suspect. this began earlier in the day at the days inn. officer darren reed call. he chases after the suspect. that suspect shoots after officer reed and hits him. that officer later dies at the hospital. we are learning more about that officer, as well. we understand he was actually close to retirement. he does leave behind a wife and two children. there is no motive at this point for this shooting. sheriff deputies are investigating an apparent

there is at 107th avenue. deputies are confirming it appears to be a homicide of an adult. they are not confirming the cause of death at this hour or whether it is a man or a woman. we should learn more later this afternoon. 107th avenue is closed. it is in a very rural area. it is not affecting traffic. we'll have more on this tonight at 5:00. sheriff's deputies are searching forren escaped inmate. 25-year-old transport van and ran off. it happened this morning on 35th avenue. deputies have not said why he was in custody. they do not consider him armed and dangerous. four people were killed overnight in a two-vehicle accident on u.s. highway 93. this is the main road between the valley and las vegas, if you are not familiar with that area. severe accidents are common there. southbound lanes were closed

it had reopened by the time the chopper flew through there. police and federal agents are serving search warrants at 71st avenue. police tell us it is part an on- going investigation involving the internet crimes against children task force. investigators removed two computer towers and took them into evidence. at this point they are not revealing any details of the investigation. we'll continue let's check in with the numbers on wall street bouncing back in a big way after the futures dropped last night. here's how it looks right now. dow is up 215 points. it is way up there sitting at 18,549. many homeowners are enhancing the security of their homes by changing the look of their lawns. it is called defensive gardening.

get in there it will probably take off. >> nice day in flagstaff and in the valley. a little wind. clear skies in flagstaff. that's looking toward the san francisco peeks from the sky dome on au's campus. looking outside in phoenix, i want to point way over the south mountain area here. you can see a little bit of dust. that's by casa grand. it is it is not going to amount to a whole lot. we are clear in the valley. we have patchy, blowing dust. wind pattern is from the east to the west. this could impact i-8. it is not dense. there is no advisories from the national weather service. keep in mind you might see dust down there by maricopa. no rain, not just in phoenix but we don't have any in the high country. a stable pattern with the big ridge of high pressure overhead. temperatures are above normal. they are cooler than yesterday.

excuse me 85 today. 81 right now. you can see gusty winds coming out of the east northeast which is not blowing toward the valley. how long do the winds last? blues are the 10 to 15 mile-per- hour range. as we get going into thursday we'll have breezy conditions. especially in southern county places phoenix. the oranges are the 30 miles per hour range. we'll have another breezy day tomorrow afternoon. typically we tend to see winds call down in the the evening peeking usually 12:00 to 3:00. maybe some of them hanging on on friday. friday is veterans day. we have a lot of parades and whatnot state-wide. i don't think it will have a big impact. winds aren't going to be so crazy it is not going to make
