about 50 kids. everything has been peaceful to this point. policeor standby. >> reporter: about 100 students from the arizona school for the arts walked out and marched to a nearby park. they had a dual message. they were disappointed with the results of the election and they also wanted to encourage positivity. some 200 students from alhambra walked out of class. they walked through the streets phoenix. police officers escorted them through traffic. they joined a couple of students from asu preparatory academy who are concerned their families will be affected by a trump presidency. >> my family comes from columbia, and i want my family to stay together. we're illegally, but there's a lot of people who are not here legally.

spokesman, alhambra central and camelback were the schools involved in today's walkout. carl hayden high school they said did it the right way, they wait and protested until after school. there is a message to parents from the phoenix union high school district superintendent on their website, as well as a video message. for the s protests in l.a. are back out. dozens of police cars are lining this overpass. we believe this is near the westbound i-10. protestors say they plan to block that part of the freeway. they did it about an hour and a half ago in the boyle heights area. last night several people in l.a. were arrested. sheriff arpaio could be heading to the nation's capitol.

possible cabinet member for donald trump as secretary of homeland security. this after he lost his reelection bid to paul penzone. trump has bragged about arpaio's endorsement throughout the election. and the sheriff has spoken at several trump rallies across the country. even though the election is behind us, sheriff arpaio is still facing legal problems. arpaio and his defense team are back in court for his criminal contempt of attorneys are meeting with the judge for a status conference. arpaio has been found guilty of civil contempt for violating a judge's order to stop his illegal roundup. another member of trump's transition team is also one of the main architects behind arizona's controversial sb1070

600,000 remain unaccounted statewide. most statistical experts have called arizona's recreational marijuana vote prop 205 as a no. proponents are still holding out hope. here's the current count. no vote leads with about 52% of the votes counted. a margin of about 83,000 votes. with roughly 630,000 ballots still uncounted, it would take about 63% of the remaining votes for the yes to make up that gap. right now a wild rescue just wrapping up near orlando. a bald eagle got stuck in a storm drain. another eagle stuck by its side. that eagle flew off. crews shut down the roadway, and it took florida fish and wildlife officers along with

and the hip as he was standing in the front room of his apartment. the bullets came flying through the arcadia door. the badly wounded man rushed to the hospital where he remains we are told in critical condition this evening. and a man who lives right next door taken into custody by phoenix police on weapons charges as the investigation continues. and today we spoke to the fiancee of jerry porter, the wounded man. the time the bullets came flying in. >> i was in the bedroom and i heard a loud noise, shot noises, and glass breaking. and i heard jerry making a horrible, awful noise. and i come running out, and he's walk toward me, and his face is covered in blood. and he says dial 911, and i'm too nervous and can't get the phone to work. it was just horrible. it was bad. and i'm watching him

hundreds taking to the streets protesting the election of donald trump. protestors there m minnesota want to build a movement against trump. there are protests in several cities, including losng oakland. we'll continue to monitor the situation. police in seattle are looking for the gunman who shot five people last night. it's one of our five stories in 55 seconds. >> the shooting happened at a busy bus stop outside -- 7/11. all five people are expected to be okay. two police officers ambushed near pittsburgh this morning. one has died.

wrong. but she doesn't have much say on what they learn outside the classroom, especially when it comes to this year's presidential race. >> i'm trying to keep the kids -- we live in a great country, and we have a demmock negativity around that, it's troubling >> reporter: she is one of the many teachers across the country doing a little damage control this week. one facebook "a student was happy today because he hates hillary and hopes she dies. another worried he wouldn't see his teacher again because she was going to be deported and trump hates mexicans". she has made it her mission to teach kids the importance of acceptance and respect, even when someone disagrees with you or has a different opinion. >> the thing we've been saying disagreeing is okay but disrespect is not okay.
