well, this morning, wind-stoked wildfires have forced the evacuations in two popular tourist towns in east tennessee. a mandatory evacuation was ordered for downtown gatlinburg as flames and choking smoke swept through and around the great smoky mountain national park. an advisory was issued there, were also evacuated. police have been going door to door to warn residents. >> the wind direction is swirling. we've picked up many embers and caused spot fires. multiple trees began to fall, taking down power line which is caused other fires to occur. we are in the process of fighting multiple fires. >> the national guard has been mobilized. nearby, the dollywood resort was also evacuated last night.

a chartered jetliner with 81 people on board crashed in central colombia last night. a brazilian soccer team was on board but there are reports of survivors. officials say at least 75 people were killed. rescue operations have been suspended. the jet had stopped in santa cruz bolivia and was on route to medellin when it went down in a remote other outside of the city. the crew declared an emergency due to an electrical failure. there were 72 passengers and 9 crew members on boards. the soccer team was from southern brazil and scheduled to play a match tomorrow.p a ca ohio state university is being vetsed as a possible act of terrorism. 11 people were injured, one is in critical condition. we're learning more from the somali-born attacker shot and kill by police. hena daniels is here in new york. >> good morning, anne-marie.

somali refugee to carry out this attack at ohio state university. investigators say the attacker deliberately plowed his car into a group of pedestrians on campus monday morning, and then got out and began stabbing people with a butcher knife before he was fatally shot by a campus police officer. >> reporter: students at ohio state university came together in prayer last night. many had memories of monday's campus rampage fresh on their mind. >> we were in then to the basement. kind of scary because we didn't know much. we couldn't get service in the basement. >> reporter: people on campus barricaded themselves in the classroom. moments before police say abdul razak ali artan intentionally rammed his car into a group of people outside. >> everybody was looking. >> reporter: authorities say the somali refugee then got out of the vehicle with a butcher knife and began stabbing onlookers. >> all patients are alert.

>> reporter: university officer alan horujko is credited with ending the chaos. >> our officer was on the scene in less than a minute and he ended the situation in less than a minute. >> reporter: artan recently transferred to ohio state in the spring. law enforcement officials are looking into a post he allegedly made on facebook shortly before the incident. saying he was sick of the way muslims were being treated. the school president is urging people t >> we don't know anything that would link this to any community. we certainly don't have any evidence that that's the case. >> reporter: so far, officials have searched artan's car and apartment complex and they're investigating the incident as a possible terror attack. and those injured in the attack include an ohio state faculty member, four graduate students and three undergraduate students. all classes are back in session today. anne-marie. >> hena daniels here in new york. thank you so much, hena. well, the officer who killed

the affordable care act to help him overhaul the nation's health system. but it's the battle over who to choose as secretary of state that is making headlines. kenneth craig has our report. >> reporter: cbs news has learned congressman tom price of georgia has been selected as secretary of health and human services. earlier, former cia director david petraeus became the latest high-profile potential cabinet is a contender for secretary of state. >> he basically walked us around the world. showed a great grasp of the variety of the challenges that are out there and some of the opportunities as well. >> reporter: petraeus resigned in 2012 after admitting to an extramarital affair with his biographer. and mishandling classified information. on tuesday, mr. trump will meet for a second time with former

possible nomination of secretary of state. >> i am just astonished at the breathtaking volume and intensity of blowback that i see that one person close to the president-elect is receiving unsolicited. >> reporter: the president-elect has yet to announce nominations for most of the members of his cabinet, despite dozens of meetings, most of them here at trump tower. but the incoming president has spoken out. he's used twitter to attack hillary clinton's for joining the recount effort led by jill stein in wisconsin, pennsylvania, and michigan. independent fact checkers have found no evidence of voter fraud despite the president-elect's claims online that fraud cost him the popular vote. kenneth craig, cbs news, new york. mr. trump was officially declared the winner in michigan claiming all 16 of the state's electoral votes. michigan is the final state to be awarded. he's the first republican to win the state since 1988. demonstrations calling for a higher minimum wage are

cities nationwide today. as a heads jurngs the protests will likely impact travel because workers in more than 20 airports including chicago's o'hare are taking part. baggage workers are joining other workers in demanding a $15 an hour wage. in cuba a massive rally is planned for today to honor fidel castro. thousands of cubans lined up to pay their respects yelled and into the night at 's revolutionary square. castro's brother raul put flowers by his brother's remains. castro's funeral is sunday but neither president obama nor vice president biden will attend. the first plane in more than 50 yearsrs from the u.s. landed yesterday in havana. a packed american airlines plane was greeted by fire trucks.

some veterans and their families will join michelle obama today for a holiday party. the christmas tree that arrived friday from wisconsin has been decorated. the event is part of the first lady's joining forces campaign. the kids will make holiday crafts and everyone will be treated to goodies from the white house kitchen. and a new law aims to improve response time for veterans. the bill signed yesterday by president obama calls for quick follow-up for calls to a suicide hot line. investigators found that some crisis calls were being taken by underqualified staffers at the department of veterans affairs. texas is reporting the first case of zika that probably came from a mosquito bite in the state. health officials say a brownsville woman who reported no travel to other affected
