>> verne: greg mcelroy is still undefeated aed a starting quarterback. we go down to tracy. >> tracy: coach, total domination on both sides of the ball, but it was your young defense that answered the call today. what can you tell me about their performance? >> coach: well, you know, we made the plays when we had to. you have to give florida a lot of credit they did a great job of keep coming back in the second half. we got them stopped in the red zone and got some timely turnovers. but i think we competed well today. and played better. i was really proud of them for that. >> tracy: are you surprised at all with the lopsided score? >> coach: well, i think the turnovers had a lot to do with that. they had the ball three times in the red zone and it's good red zone defense and getting turnovers. a great win for the team. i'm not necessarily pleased with the way we played in the second half, but we came out against a very good team. i'm proud of the players. >> tracy: congratulations.

the defendants. good evening. this is a special edition of eyewitness news. for the first time, the candidates for governor addressed an audience of latino voters. uni-vision sponsored the debate between meg whitman and jerry brown. the questions were asked in spanish. not surprisingly, the leading topic was the controversy over whitman's illegal immigrant housekeeper. she denied knowing about the status and blamed brown for orthopedic traiting the scandal. >> and jerry, you should be ashamed, you and your surrogates put her deportation at risk. you put her out there, and you should be ashamed for sacrificing nicky day yaz on the altar of your political ambition. >> don't run for governor if you can't stand up on your own two feet and say, "hey, i made a mistake. i'm sorry." you have blamed her, blamed me, blamed the left. but you don't take

accountabilitity. >> the candidates aired their differences on immigration reform, health care and education. we will have much more on the debate at 10, 11 on cbs at 5. more details emerging on the budget agreement hammered out by the legislator. lawmakers reached a tentative agreement. if approved it will end the longest stalemate in history, 94 days. it relies on a combination of spending cuts and financial projections. there will be no new taxes. the state will cut about $7.5 million in spending. the proposal protects jobs and schools from massive.

80 officers laid off earlier this year, and among them, 63 community police officers. measure bb would restore community police as well as violence pro -- >> no additional police layoffs scheduled for this year. a travel alert is scheduled tomorrow for anyone going to europe. the warning, prompted by new threats from osama bin laden and al-queda. u.s. officials say they're concerned terrorists could target public places in major european cities. some european allies are worried about issuing such a

all is clear tonight after a big rig crashed closed it after five hours. the crash was reported about six this morning. it was on the will avenue exit in hercules. a small amount of diesel fuel spilled when the rig overturned. it took time for crews to bring

meet the real meg whitman: serving on the board of goldman sachs, whitman was caught reaping millions from insider stock deals. after ebay shareholders sued and a judge cited the obvious conflict of interest she was forced to pay the money back. what kind of person would be involved in deals a fellow republican congressman called corrupt? and in her last year at ebay, whitman paid herself $120 million right before the company laid off 10% of it's workers. we're choosing a governor, shouldn't character matter?
