finally the moment of truth has arrived. can't wait to see what you're going to be. >> you have to make your commitment. >> that's it. we are all in. please stay tuned. but we begin this friday morning with the latest news on this final weekend of the 2010 campaign. with democrats working furiously to avoid a republican wipeout. suddenly all the attention is on democratic party infighting in florida. cbs news congressional correspondent nan sis cordes is here with us in the studio with the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. it's unfolding in the sunshine state where there's a three-way race for senate. the republican marco rubio has a commanding lead and takes something mayor to shake things up at this point. sounds like that's what president bill clinton was trying to engineer. >> any rumor or any statement by anyone that says i made a decision to get out of the race is inaccurate at best. >> reporter: cbs news confirms republican turned independent charlie crist approached president bill clinton's camp about a deal.

crist promised to caucus with democrats in exchange for democrat kendrick meek dropping out of the race. sources say clinton approached meek about the plan twice meek accepted and then backed out. meek insists it never happened. >> there was never a deal. no one called me and said, hey, you need to get out of the race. >> hello, alaska! how are you, anchorage? >> reporter: up in alaska former governor sarah palin spent the evening rallying for republican joe miller. >> getting the country back on the right track is to change the way that businesses is done in washington. no more business as usual. we have to shake it up. we have got to send joe miller to the united states senate. >> reporter: the outspoken miller is one of 51 house and senate hopefuls palin is backing this year. if the candidates win on november 2nd, she'll cement her role as a king maker and fuel speculation of a presidential bid. it is a topic palin addressed in her interview with "entertainment tonight." >> it's a yes if there are others who are not willing to be

charlie chris in the. >> absolutely not. the discussion president clinton and i had when he was here in orlando where i am now campaigning was that he heard of these reports that i may possibly get out of the race. we talked about it. obviously, what i know now, charlie crist being desperate, feeling the pathway to victory is me out of this race was calling the clinton office and i didn't know that but neither be here nor there. i talked about it. i told him i wasn't interested. he didn't push me to do it. he said, listen, whatever decision is a decision you feel is the right decision. i made that decision. that i'm staying in the race like i did before. i mean, ever since i won the democratic primary the crist camp is trying to get me out of this race. >> so why does president clinton's spokesman confirm that the conversation not only took place but that you twice agreed to back out of the race and then backed snout. >> that is not true.

that's -- president clinton and i talked. there's no way in the world that anyone can by name -- i mean, these are anonymous -- they said that we had a discussion, confirmed this. >> his spokesman confirmed it. >> that we had the conversation about the race in general. we did not come to any kind of agreement that i would get out of a race and the president did not push me to do so. i did not tell him that i wanted to do it. we talked about it. and that's it. that was the bottom line. there was no -- i mean, let's look at it this way. this report is inaccurate at best. i mean, first this thing about a meeting in jacksonville. the president was never in jacksonville with me. then it was a question of me agreeing twice. i never agreed to it once. and then it came down to a rally planned and every -- i mean, this was not -- this is -- this is made up so i don't know where it came from but the bottom line is, if there are individuals who

democrats. are you willing to make a prediction that won't happen? >> yeah. i'll be glad to, harry. look. last time i was on with you guys it was the morning of the president's rally in madison. and i think maggie was interviewing him saying what if nobody turns out to the rally? i think there's going to be a good turnout and there were 26,000 folks that night. the early voting analysis across the nation is showing that democrats are doing very well. in early voting. a lot of predictions are big republican wave, it is not showing up in the early voting stats. i see energy and enthusiasm for our candidates. is it going to be tough? sure it is. midterms in a tough economy are tough. we have a good ground game and i see evidence of it everywhere i go. >> all right. we'll cement that, freeze it and rerun it wednesday. >> put it on tape and talk about it later. all right. >> thanks so much.

>> you bet my maggie? >> more news we ri cahill at the news desk. good morning. >> good morning. north and south korea exchanged gun fire across the heavily guarded border this morning. south korean military officials say north korean soldiers fired two shots at a south korean guard house in the demilitarized zone. the south koreans returned fire. no injuries a. cease fire has been in effect since 1953. the cement used on the bp oil well that exploded in the gulf of mexico was flawed. halliburton that supplied the cement to bp admits it skipped a critical stability test on the cement and a presidential commission has found bp had resulted in march from an earlier test indicating that cement could fail. of course, in april the drill exploded triggering the worst offshore oil spill in u.s. history. airport security is changing

one against replacing the pat down with a hand glide. the transportation security administration did not say why it is making the change, only that it regularly reviews its proceed yirs. the shootings at washington area military facilities are linked according to the fbi. shots fired this month at the pentagon, the national museum of the marine corps and a marine recruiting station all came from the same gun. no one was injured and there is no suspect or motive at this time. police in central missouri holding a man in wednesday's shooting deaths of three people. police say 23-year-old joshua william maylee caught yesterday not far from where the shootings took place. today in pensacola, florida, a jury will decide the fate of patrick gonzalez. it is either life in prison or excuse. yesterday jurors found him guilty of first-degree murder in the 2009 home invasion deaths of byrd and melanie billings. the couple gunned down while the nine special needs children

slept or hid elsewhere in the home. a follow-up on a story of last week. horrific crime scene video of a moment after the violent death shared via cell phone. the fireman that took that video and shared it has been dismissed. the graphic cell phone video showed her in the moments after her death. it happened in a suv accident last july. the video was circulated online and eventually seen by her parents who are now pushing to make it el lyle for first responders to make personal videos. and finally, san francisco leads texas in the world series two games to none. after edgar renteria hit a home run in the fifth and

love his work as a videographer for the football team and a writer for the student paper. it has people asking why. ♪ solemn mass thursday night in the ball sy ka of the sacred heart at the campus of notre dame. a massive remembrance for a student that died tragically here tuesday. >> our brother seclan suddenly and violently taken from us. >> reporter: the 20-year-old was a vig oger if for the football team taping practices from high atop the field. on wednesday, a message on his twitter account just as practice began shows he sensed trouble. gusts of wind up to 60 miles per hour. well today will be fun at work. i guess i've lived long enough. and then, just before the lift tipped over, holy blank. holy blank. this is terrifying. sullivan fell some 50 feet to his death. >> just a feeling of shock and sadness that is i think really

shared by everyone across campus and the entire university community. >> reporter: and questions, too. why was practice held outside in the wind when it had been indoors the day before? notre dame's athletic director issued this statement. >> it was an unremarkable yourny in the sense that practice was normal. >> reporter: he says it was a sudden gust of wind that knocked down sullivan's lift. >> i turned to face north and experience add pretty extraordinary burst of wind and i heard a crash. ♪ >> reporter: this even though sullivan's tweet about strong winds came hours earlier. declan sullivan will be remembered by the football team during its home game tomorrow against tulsa with a moment of silence and with a special decal on the football helmets.

at an underwater photographer in maine and bit his camera but he never backed off. his name is scott mcnichol. he is here with his diving partner. a tale of a deep-sea scare in an exclusive interview. also ahead, sex on the brain. or more precisely in the brain. an interesting new study suggested that low sex drive is connected with the way your brain is wired. how did they figure that out? we'll ask our dr. jennifer ashton in a moment. a los angeles jury convicted anna nicole smith's former boyfriend and sipsychiatrist of obtaining illegal prescription drugs before the overdose. more than two weeks of deliberations. cbs news correspondent ben tracy has more. >> what's next? >> reporter: he was anna nicole smith's closest friend, lawyer and lover and now con viktded of conspiracy for using fake names

and false prescriptions to supply smith with massive doses of drugs. >> now, this was done to protect anna nicole's privacy and it was nothing more than that. >> reporter: smith's psychiatrist was found guilty on four counts including conspiracy and fraud. but overall, the jury dismissed or deadlocked on 15 other felony counts. >> i loved anna nicole. she was a good person, a good friend. >> reporter: in the three years before her death, smith was often seen on stern's arm, often incoherent. >> if you have to go into a rehab, oh my goodness. >> reporter: prosecutors say smith obtained 1,500 pills in 1 month. after the death in february of 2007, methadone was found in her refranlg ray or the. in an autopsy revealed a dozen drugs in her system. including painkillers and sedatives. yet in a bizarre twist, the physician that prescribed many of the drugs was cleared of all charges.

used his own name to get prescription medicine for her. howard k. stern is an intelligent person, an attorney. how could he not know that's illegal? >> well, principally because in the beverly hills, excuse me, los angeles area, celebrities have been using aliases and anonymous names for years and years. anna used it in many occasions. many hospitals for her. doctors used it for her and in howard's mind as long as they knew the medication was for her, there was nothing wrong with it. >> anything he regrets? does he have a clear conscious that he did not enable a problem that led to her death? >> i think he has a clear conscious. she was the love of his life. he regrets the fact that her untimely demise was such a

in this morning's health watch is the brain wired for sex? a new study finds women with low sex drives show different patterns of brain activity compared with those whose sex drive is considered normal. what does it mean for you and your partner? how much of what goes on with the brain has to do with your sex drive? >> when you talk about women and sex, a lot. this was a very small observational study but interesting findings. it compared two groups of women. one with normal functions and women with low libido. it compared their brain activity

with a functional mri. they had different levels of activity in the brain activated. again, very different between those two groups. . >> i'm sure there are a whole host of factors that contribute to low sex drive. what are some other ones? >> male sex drive it's just a physical process. when you're talking about women and sexual function, the process is much more complex. much more. it could be a range of issues from hormonal changes to depression, stress, anxiety, what women is not familiar with that whether it comes from job or kids and medications typically ironically even antidepressants can lower libido. it's a range of problems from head to toe. >> every women i can think of has had one of these. what can we do to revive our sex drive? >> the magic bullet, the magic pill is under rigorous scientific study.

god for that, assessed that. and the next thing i saw with blurry vision was the firemen running towards me with their coats flapping. >> but there were moments during that whole process where it seemed as if you were bleeding so badly, you had lost so much blood, that it almost looked as if the emts were sort of saying, we're not sure we're going to get this guy out in time? >> we found out when we had dinner with the firemen a couple of months later that when they first arrived and assessed the scene, because i had my head down, they phoned into the fire chief that the victim was deceased and came over with a blanket to cover me up and that's when i raised my head up and asked them to just get me out. >> don't stop. don't stop believing. >> right. >> this story for you is fraught with all kinds of spiritual significance, life experience significance.

company but your weaknesses. you did find any and have you made any changes? >> yeah. well, you're going to have to watch the she to see some of the things that we've made -- we made changes on but, yes, we learned a lot of good things. >> on the show, you posed as a hispanic immigrant but, in fact, you are a hispanic immigrant who just became a u.s. citizen last year. do you think because so many of your employees are hispanic you're an inspiration to them? because i think you are. >> thank you. i appreciate that. about half of our employee base in the u.s. is hispanic. and so, one of the most interesting things, when i joined the company seven years ago, when i go to the fields and facilities and our farms, all in central america, i speak to them in spanish. and you can see that there's a connection and they feel good about having a leader, first time in the company's history, they have their ceo being hispanic. and so, i think you can say that it's an inspiration. you know, i don't think of
