notarangelo. if you spent your saturday outside, chances are you got a little wet. san jose got hit with some pretty good rain today. and other places in the bay area also saw heavy downpours. the wet weather caused backups at sfo today. the airport's duty manager says all incoming flights were delayed by at least an hour for most of the day. by the way, most flights are now running back on schedule. well, let's get the latest on where the rain is now. and how much more we can expect from lawrence karnow. he is in the weather center. hi, lawrence. >> things are starting to wind down just a bit rain-wise. it was a very interesting day outside. you get some sunshine and then all of a sudden you have a big downpour, and the thunderstorms are rumbling overhead and we still have a couple of wandering storms out there right now. this one off the coastline of half moon bay and sneaking in just to the south here and move onshore. and the showers look like they will continue to diminish over the next couple of hours and the main area of low pressure moved on through with a couple of cells out here and keep at least a chance of showers in the forecast, over the next couple of hours here, and i

think as we head toward midnight, becoming much more widely scattered and tomorrow, looking good with temperatures getting near 60. we will tell you when in a few minutes. elizabeth, back to you. >> thanks, lawrence. we will see you again in 15 minutes. despite the weather, retailers are happy to see the start of the shopping season. especially on line. cyber shopping rose 16% compared to last year. the average online customer's order also rose about 12%. and brick and mortar retailers saw a modest .3% increase over last year's black friday. well, not all shoppers are headed for the malls. today, a big push to lure customers into those mom and pop stores. and anne makovec is now on the turnout for small business saturday. >> thank you. >> reporter: it is small business saturday. and owners are hoping it will become part of the consumer calendar, encouraging shoppers to try out smaller, local stores. >> you are competing against a lot of other people with a lot

of advertising money and a lot of times people just think of the big box stores first. or only. >> reporter: these customers say think twice. >> you go to the bigger stores, and sometimes you get lost and they're quite busy. >> reporter: business was steady at all of the stores we visited in downtown menlo park today but nothing overwhelming. >> i think there is some time to build. >> reporter: and they're excited about the extra promotion. >> just watching it on tv, small businesses, yes, we're taking part in that as well. so a lot is done by american express. >> reporter: a credit card company well known for charging businesses large fees, when customers use the card. >> yes, that is true. and they are obviously a big corporation themselves. but a lot of times, i think it is just kind of getting the awareness up. >> reporter: but no matter what method of payment you want to use, a lot of stores are offering things like free gift wrapping today, or other special deals. customers say it is the

experience that keeps them buying local. >> here, the kids can play. they can play for a long time. >> i think the stuff that they sell here is a bill bit more special in a way -- a little bit more special in a way. >> here is a turtle. >> reporter: in menlo park, anne makovec, cbs 5. >> so cute. in san francisco's castro district, at this hour, a vigil is under way to remember one of the most traumatic events in the city's history. our don knapp is in san francisco where supervisor harvey milk and mayor george mosconi were murdered 32 years ago. don? >> reporter: if you take a look across the street, you will see that the crowds are significantly smaller than they have been over the years but they are still significant and it is still important to get together and remember the city hall assassinations, two men responsible to the lgbt community and the struggle for equal rights and acceptance but what george and harvey milk still mean to them and in particular, to lgbt teens, according to david wagner of

the harvey milk democratic group. >> enormously important that we're here tonight. to remember his legacy, especially at a time in this country where even in the past year, the number of lgbt teenagers who continue unfortunately to commit suicide has continued to make the headlines. even 32 years later, after milk's death. >> mayor musconi and supervisor harvey milk -- have been shot and killed 32 years after the assassinations, the scenes and the painful memories persist. former supervisor dan white had quit his seat on the board of supervisors and asked his mind and asked the mayor to reappoint him. the mayor refused. white went to the mayor's office in city hall. they argued. white pulled a gun an shot and killed the mayor. then went to supervisor harvey milk's office. two decades after the killings, u.s. senator diane fine stein recalled the day.

>> the door open and dan was there, and i said dan, can you stop for a minute. and he said i can't. and he went into a room. i heard the door slam. and i heard shots. and smelled the gunpowder. >> reporter: a trial and verdict of voluntary manslaughter triggered outrage in the gay community that felt that the jury had been too lenient to the plan who killed california's first openly gay public official. the meeting happened for 15 minutes and then the people participating will march to a store front that used to be harvey milk's camera store. and that will happen in about 15 minutes. >> and we will be there later tonight. >> and do you know what they will do at the camera store at the end of the march? >> we know there are a lot of significant people in the movement that will be here, and i'm sure they will talk and it will be a moment of reverence it is kind of a holy night for them. the annual fundraiser for

. today the team this landmark will not look the same the next time the cal bears play in it. today, the team play the the final game in the old memorial stadium. starting monday the 87-year-old structure will undergo a major renovation, including an earthquake retrofit. during refurbishments cal will play at at&t park. the project should be done in time for the 2012 season. kim coyle will have more on today's game later on in sports. 'tis the season of giving. and people injured in fires are not being forgotten. today, firefighters, volunteers collected money from drivers in san jose. members of the san jose firefighters burn foundation, and the valley medical center burn unit, were at blossom hill and almaden expressway filling their boots with donations. >> anything we collect will be a plus on our side, but you know, we're hoping that we will

get a good draw out here. this is one of the busiest intersections of the city of san jose and we always have had good support from this area and we are hoping for a good draw. >> the burn foundation started the effort several years ago after the red cross put out a plea to help raise money for burn victims. over the years, the foundation has raised thousands of dollars for that cause. some people are getting a little too much into the holiday spirit. literally. the number of drunk driving arrests in the bay area since the start of the thanksgiving holiday weekend is up over last year. the chp has arrested 177 people for driving under the influence. that is compared to 137 during the same period in 2009. and statewide, arrests are also up, 975. compared to 904 last year. that crackdown continues through midnight tomorrow. and a crackdown on underaged drinking aboard those party buses is being proposed by a bay area lawmaker.

san mateo assemblyman jerry hill says there is a loophole in that law that requires stricter enforcement in limos than buses. the proposal is in response to the death earlier this year of 19-year-old brett studebaker killed in a drunk driving accident after spending several hours drinking aboard a party bus. a group that opposes gun violence picketed a meeting of open carry advocates in the east bay today. and the open carry group met at nation's giant hamburgers in pleasant hill. they support their right to carry unloaded holesterred weapons for self-defense and they carry weapons to their meetings, to make that point. but members of the brady campaign to prevent gun violence say open carry is a danger to the community. they want stronger gun control laws. >> common sense tells you when you have that many weapons in one place, and you don't have people who are accountable to anyone, that the odds for an

"beast fe e grizzly bears we've gobbled down our thanksgiving meals. now it is time for the beast feast. today the grizzly bears got their special meals served by silver platter at the san francisco zoo. it wasn't just for the bears. there were special menus for the chimps and cats, and the birds, too. the feast for the beast event continues through tomorrow afternoon. if you want to check it out. no utensils required. well, those with a sweet tooth will appreciate this. it is a two-story ginger bread house in the lobby of the fairmont hotel in san francisco. the hotel claims this is the biggest. standing 22 feet high. it is made of 5500 pieces of gingerbread and 850 pounds of royal icing, on display through the holidays. i got a feeling slowly gum

drops might be missing from the house. >> and little kids might do that. it looks good. >> vandalism, yes. >> and showers around the bay area. if you got caught in one, it was coming down pretty good for a while, folks. big time cells were rotating in overhead tonight. kind of an interesting day. sunshine in between. and then all of a sudden we see the clouds roll back in. here come the showers. head on. and things are beginning to wind down a bit around the bay area as it looks like the main cold front has gone by and it looks like we will see less showers throughout the nighttime hours but a couple of showers out, there and doppler radar picking up some of that moisture and a lot of it in the high country where really it is going to be a tough go for tonight, folks. if you're planning to head in that direction, if you can just wait a day, it will be great and probably worth it. a lot of lines to get over the mountain top, you will need chains. and scattered showers. but more widely scattered showers around the bay area. a few light showers along the peninsula. still some off the coastline. a chance of more showers in through the evening.

but really, this system is coming to an end. all right, as the front moves on through, it brought with it pretty good rainfall around the bay area, reports of an inch of rain in parts of the north bay and in the santa cruz mountains and temperatures outside right now, a little cool if you're headed out the door, and 40 degrees in santa rosa and 45 in san rafael and 47 in san jose. and if you do plan on heading out around the states, partly cloudy skies in the sacramento valley and still some snow in the high country. and yes, watch out if you're heading in that direction, and more snow on the way for them. and a lot of snow up there. and winter storm warnings for tonight. temperatures will be very, very cool. be careful if you head up there, it will be dry on monday but check out the overnight low in tahoe. minus four degrees. that is bone chilling cold up there. here is your front. moving on through here. behind it, you have the air that is circulating on the back side of it. it is cold air. but not as cold as last week. we're not going to see the record-breaking cold temperatures. with overnight lows in the 30s and 40s. scattered showers out there for tonight. then it looks like things really wind down as we head toward the midnight hour. the computer model picking up

pretty well with the scattered showers heading on through. and then it moves out of town. and looking toward tomorrow morning, really not bad at all. and you will see a couple of clouds in the sky but plenty of sunshine in between, and it looks like a dry day for the bay area tomorrow, and now, it will be cool, and if you're headed outside, and make sure you bring a sweater or a light jacket and temperatures still running in the 50s outside. about 53 in livermore and 55 -- or 56 in fremont. 55 in redwood city. about 54 degrees in vallejo. so let's check it out over the next couple of days. i think we will see drier weather in the works. not a washout this weekend. tomorrow looks like a dry one. more clouds. and more sunshine monday and tuesday. we may get to see 60s around the bay area as we head toward tuesday. wednesday, a couple of clouds roll in. and a slight chance of showers north of the golden gate bridge. i think a better chance for rain for everyone as we head in toward thursday. that's a look at weather. here is kim coyle with sports. >> thanks, lawrence. cal looks to close the books on old memorial stadium. and add another chapter to the 2010 season. and could the raiders be making

that would make them bowl eligible. bears fans enjoying the final time from the legendary tight wad hill. cal led 3-0 at the half. third quarter, jake locker rolls out and launches it down the field. the bears appear to have it covered. but deandre goodwin wins the jump ball and splits the two defenders and takes it in for six. an 80-yard touchdown to give the huskies a 7-3 lead. later in the third, locker under pressure. mike muhammad knocks it loose. it bounces right into the hands of big cameron jordan who runs it down for the bears only touchdown of the game. two seconds to go. cal up 13-10. washington decides to go for it on fourth down and the move pays off. chris polk scores as time expires. the huskies win 16-13. the bears end the season a disappointing 5-7. arkansas and fifth ranked lsu. final play of the first half. forget about taking a knee. ryan malllet fires a strike to colby hamilton and the two defenders run into each other, and this is how you head into

the locker room, with all of the momentum, and an 80-yard touchdown, the razor backs knock off lsu 31-23. and an outcome that is huge for stanford's bcs chances. for the second straight year, the horned frogs of tcu made it through the regular season undefeated. and andy dalton throws three touchdowns in the first quarter. and as they blow out new mexico, 66-17. tcu still has an outside shot at the national title game. but they are now guaranteed a spot in the rose bowl. stanford can all but clinch a spot in the fiesta or the sugar bowl if they beat oregon state. the cardinals lead 31-0 in the third. they could still go in the rose bowl if auburn loses in the s.e.c. championship game next week. jumping again. wisconsin was looking to take back the big 10 title. northwestern was the latest team with noancer for the

badgers running game. -- noancer for the badgers running game. he takes the pitch and pretty much makes everyone in a white jersey miss him. the ball runs for 170 yards and four touchdowns. wisconsin blowns out northwestern 70-23 and they're headed to pasadena and the rose bowl. the denver broncos and the head coach josh mcdaniels were fined $100,000 for filming part of the 49ers practice when the teams were in london. despite being 3-7, the niners remain optimistic about their playoff chances. three of their remaining six games are against nfc west opponents. including monday night at arizona. of course it helps that the division-leading seahawks are only 5-5. . >> i don't really worry about whether the other team is 5-5. i just worry whether we're in it or not. >> the playoffs? don't talk about the playoffs. are you kidding me? >> the good thing is we're still in it. we have a lot of room to make things happen.
