that is the antigay group from kansas, infamous for protesting at soldiers' funerals. they had threatened to protest the play, which is a true story about the 1998 murder of a young gay student in wyoming. the folks from the westboro baptist church never ended up showing up. five years after a tragic accident on the train tracks, the city of san jose is making major safety changes. over the years, it's become an unofficial railroad crossing, you see on the map. it's on the city's south side. people cross the tracks illegally at blossom hill road and monterrey highway all the time, but not everyone has made it across safely. you may remember back in 2005 a woman with three young children tried to cross the tracks on the way to a fast food restaurant. she misjudged the distance of the train and a 2-year-old was killed. yesterday, there was a ground breaking for a new $10 million bicycle bridge. that will span the tracks, as well as monterrey highway. >> the traffic across the

8:43 am
the chp had to shut down all northbound lanes between capital expressway and actually road for a few minutes as the truck was turned around to get off at an on ramp. very bizarre scene. i was actually out there yesterday and had the chance to walk across the northbound lanes. very rare experience. for bay area sports fans, all eyes are on san jose, as the sharks are making a remarkable push towards the playoffs, going for their ninth straight win this evening at home against the dallas stars. puck drops downtown at 7:30. from hockey to hoops, golden state warriors played hard in boston last night, but came up short in the end. ellis had 41 points, playing very strong defense. power forward david lee scored 26. golden state within 2 points with just over 2 minutes left, but the celtics held on to win 107-103. it's a day to unplug today,
8:44 am
going to sundown today. unplug the cell phone, smartphone. >> if i can find it, i'll unplug it. >> constant state of unplugged? >> pretty much. >> good for you. >> you know, i didn't update our early weekend edition facebook page this morning actually because i was late. i'm going to say it's i was unplugging. >> unplugging. all right. hopefully the sunlight will encounter less traffic once it gets into outerspace, having trouble obviously getting across the highways and biways this morning. hopefully you won't have that kind of trouble, as we see clear skies, dry roads out there today. balmy weather conditions. however, there is more moisture on tap here for late tonight, into tomorrow, as we look out across ocean beach, seeing a lovely day taking shape. we see the haze out there, but lots of clear skies -- lots of blue skies, i should say, through the south bay. a bit of haze there as well. temperatures, as mentioned, on the balmy side today.
8:45 am
overnight lows also warmer than normal, as we see a flow of subtropical moisture moving into the area here, bringing with it hawaiian-type temperatures into the area. maybe not quite as warm as hawaii, but slightly warmer than normal for this time of year. this moisture is already coming ashore across northern california. it will fade south through the day, moving into our area, bringing showers into the north bay tonight, across the greater bay area, through the day tomorrow. again, you see the extent of moisture extending all the way out across the hawaiian islands. it will remain on the warm side, with increasing clouds through the day today, and that rain developing by tonight, into tomorrow. should be just about done by tomorrow night. could be a few lingering showers in the commute time on monday, and overall, we'll look for half of an inch to an inch across the coastal plains. up in the mountains, looks like an inch to 3 inches of rain for wetter spots here. as we see today, increasing clouds, continued warm and mild across the area here.
8:46 am
so looks like a lovely saturday taking shape. rain should be with us through the day tomorrow, which will undoubtedly produce more snow in the highcountry of the sierra. warm temperatures, though, into the mid-40s, gradually cooling the beginning of the week, but a far cry, about 40 degrees warmer than last week at this time. taking a look at temperatures around the bay today, again, we'll top out in the upper 60s. maybe a few low 70s for warmer locations. back to the water, looks like mid to low 60s for most of us, even at the beach today. so that's balmy by our standards for this time of year. and as we take a look at the extended forecast here, we see those potential low 70s across the interior for today. rain developing tonight, continuing under mostly cloudy skies tomorrow, and then we'll dry out a bit on monday, tuesday, and wednesday, all looking dry and sunny before the next round of rain arrives. looks like again probably thursday or friday, tapering off into and through next weekend. this is a more typical pattern for this time of year, out of the freezing temperatures the
