the bird was not expected to live after flying into a high- voltage electric tower last year! all of the flight feathers on one wing were burned off and the falcon's talons were severely injured. she recuperated enough to take her first flight yesterday. there she goes. thanks to caretakers at san jose-based wildlife center of silicon valley. salmon are expected to be biting for many fishermen in northern california. salmon season kicks off today.
8:44 am
scientists say this season is expected to be the best in years. the season was closed in 2008 and 2009 you may remember because of poor feed conditions and opened last year with tepid results. they estimate that over one million adult salmon will be swimming along the california coast this year. that's four times higher than last year. all right, another check on the weather. we heard that there was a chance of rain today. i just denied it. i said i'm not bringing my umbrella. not bringing the raincoat because i don't want to face it. it looks like i might have lucked out. >> just a chance of some scattered showers. a light chance at best. it looked like the clouds continuing to stream across our skies today. noticeably cooler temperatures. breezy around the bay area. let's get you outside right now. check things out. and indeed, we've got plenty of clouds making their way over san jose right now. you can see no raindrops there just yet. looks like for the most part, i think we'll stay dry. the big story with the system as it moves through, it is
8:45 am
going to usher in cooler temperatures outside. over coit tower, cloudy skies there as well. as we head toward the afternoon, may see the clouds parked just a little bit but yeah, the damage will be done. the cooler air is going to be here and that's going to help to drop the temperatures. high def doppler trying to pick up on the moisture. not all of this is hitting the ground. you get the idea some of the moisture sweeping on by at least bringing a chance of light showers after that passes by, we're pretty much done with that for awhile before we start talking about rain toward the middle of the next week. with that in mind, it looks like the system moving on through, breaking up. you can see not really well organized as it is sliding on through california. they'll see rin rain up in the sierra nevada. if you are headed out the door right now, we've got mostly cloudy skies. temperatures running in the 50s around the bay area. cooler to start off the day. by the afternoon, it will be noticeably cooler outside. as we'll see a lot of clouds in our skies, maybe a couple of sunny breaks. winds will be kicking up
8:46 am
especially inside the bay and out toward the coastline. a pretty breezy afternoon all around the bay area. temperatures running into the 50s right now headed out the door. not all that bad right now. but as we head toward the afternoon, winds will be picking up. it will be blowing pretty good. 70s into the central valley. showers in toward fresno. better chance into the high country. and then it looks like after things settle down, not going to be too bad. tomorrow, should begin to dry out in the sierra nevada. expect slushy conditions with the rain in the sierra nevada as well. by tomorrow, return to sunshine and some spring skiing conditions. high pressure that brought us the sunshine now headed eastward allowing for the system to slide in toward the bay area. not much energy with it. so, the big story will be those cooler temperatures outside. those winds kicking up as we head into the latter part of the day. numbers not all that bad though. we'll see plenty of temperatures well into the 60s. plan on about 65 degrees in santa clara. 66 in morgan hill. should be about 64 degrees in
8:47 am
fremont. out toward the beaches, we had temperatures there in the 60s and 70s. they'll be in the 50s for today. you get the idea. temperatures coming way down from just the past couple of days. highs in the east bay running up to 67 in brentwood. about 63 degrees in richmond. and the north bay, we'll keep you cool coastside numbers there mainly in the 50s. lots of 60s. so, as we look out over the next couple of days, we've got changes in the works. by tomorrow, i think we'll see more sunshine and temperatures may pop up just a couple of degrees but still a little bit on the breezy side. but that's going to change as we head in toward monday. i think we may see an offshore wind kicking back in. that will help to crank up the temperatures again. i think we'll start to see 70s showing up around the bay area. by tuesday, the clouds start to roll in. starts to get a little bit iffy in the long-range. a chance of showers returns to the bay area as we head in toward the middle of the next week. hard to believe but yep, nice weather is all gone now. today, doesn't look like a

8:52 am
driveways. derelict cars and pickups, fading paint, flat tires, long outdated registration. these are the vehicles sunnyvale is targeting. >> we want it to be a nice place to live. and certain cars that are just sitting there that people don't want anymore, that are just gathering dust and are eyesores, we would like to get rid of them. >> just in time for spring cleaning, the city is offering residents free towing of unwanted vehicles. to the nearest junkyard. >> as long as you're a sunnydale resident, we'll get rid of that. we'll have the tow company pick it up. all you need to do is the vehicle has to be towable and have to sign over the title to the tow company to get it out of the neighborhood. >> although we found lots of potential candidates, we didn't find any owners throlg part with their vehicles whether they were running or not. this house off murphy avenue had the most we saw. >> how many cars do you guys have here? >> we have about eight and a trailer. and we had others but we sold them.
