in the meantime, back to you. >> thank you. call it the breakfast of champions. president obama will sit down with some supporters in a couple of hours. it's day 2 of his west coast swing. anne makovec is at the saint regis hotel in san francisco where people are paying up to $36,000 for a meal with the president. good morning. >> reporter: yeah. it is definitely a pricey breakfast. more than your local diner here at the saint regis hotel in san francisco. behind me the president is going to join some of his supporters, pick up some cash and head to sfo, where he will then head to reno later on this morning. let's take a look at footage from president obama last night. big fundraiser at the masonic auditorium. former san francisco 49ers jerry rice kick off that rally. then the president spoke to about 2500 supporters. they paid between $25 and

$10,000 each for those tickets. >> and that's what this campaign has to be about, about your jobs, about your families, your hopes and dreams. that's what we're fighting for. >> reporter: the president has set an unprecedented fundraising goal of $1 billion for his re-election campaign. obviously that sounds like a lot until you consider that he raised close to $750 million in 2008. and he is certainly off to a lucrative start. last night in presidio heights, 60 supporters paid more than $35,000 each for dinner with the president. mr. obama is taking criticism from liberals on a number of issues, yes, liberals, because he is moving more to the center. political analyst joe tooman says the president's positions are moving more to the center but people on the left may not have a choice when it comes time to vote.

>> i think he is betting that they are going to vote for him anyway but being willing to vote is one thing. being able to raise money to get more people to vote is another and in order for president obama to get reelected, he needs both money and votes. >> reporter: during his west coast trip, the president has been telling supporters he understands their frustration over the compromises he has made with republicans. but he says budget issues in washington can only be solved if the two parties work together so again, president obama waking up in san francisco this morning headed to the saint regis hotel for breakfast with supporters and then to the airport to reno then back to los angeles tonight. sydnie and frank? >> very quick trip and i think he hopes it will be very lucrative, as well. anne, thanks very much. >> i was going to say i think breakfast is five grand so it's going to work out well for the president. thank you, anne. earlier, the president held a town hall at facebook in palo

alto. he addressed his event moderator mark zuckerberg when he talked about reducing the deficit in part by raising taxes on the wealthy. >> and then what we said is let's take another trillion of that, that allows people like me and, frankly, you, mark, for paying a little more in taxes. [ nervous chuckles ] >> i know you're okay with that. >> in case you didn't catch that, the billionaire ceo tells the president that very cool with paying more in taxes. the president taking questions from zuckerberg, facebook employees and pre-screened online submissions. 4: 35. right now oakland police are questioning a man in connection with a string of sex assaults near lake merritt. police say the man matches the physical description of the suspect on several assaults in the area over the past several months. the most recent case two days ago when a man followed a woman into her home and forced her to undress. police haven't arrested anyone just yet. caltrain is dodging cuts but the board is expected to approve a new fare hike and

parking fee increase at a special session this morning. it's part of the transit services plan to reduce its deficit estimated at $30 million. the plan will likely not include reducing a number of trains or closing train stations, though. board members have hinted they will be able to finance the current level of service for another year. and what will be considered are 25 sent increase for base fares and raising the daily parking rate from $3 to $4. we'll have a live report coming up at 5:00. and starting today it will be a little bit easier for drivers in san francisco to find that coveted parking spot. >> that is certainly good news. the city using sensors and smartmeters to give you realtime parking information in several neighborhoods. drivers can log on to sfparks.org or get a new phone al. later this year, drivers can pay by phone or online instead of having to go back to the meter to put in more money. and you could even get a text

message before the meter expires alerting you time to pay. this morning golden gate bridge officials will consider imposing a speed limit for the 6,000 cyclists to cross the bridge each day. right now there is no speed limit for bikes. and that's what they blame for most of the accidents on the bridge. officials propose enforcing a 5 to 10-mile-an-hour speed limit and slapping a $100 fine on cyclists caught speeding . let's check traffic and weather. it was drippy out there. >> you didn't listen to lawrence? >> it's wet out there right now but it looks like it's going to be drying out after this morning. you see the showers most of that just swinging through the bay area bringing us rain. it is going to be slowing down and looks like things will start to dry out and we'll sneak in some sunshine toward the afternoon. let's check the cold front. it's hard to see. there isn't much to t you can see the darkening infrared images moving by.

you see the clouds right here and there it is. that's going to slide by this morning and then we'll start to see things clearing out around the bay area. temperatures 40s and 50s right now even a mild 58 degrees in san jose. i think as we look toward the afternoon we'll still see temperatures in the 60s in many spots inland. 50s at the immediate coastline and it looks like some improving weather as we head out over the next day or so as we are going to see more sunshine on the way for tomorrow. that's good friday. and then as we head in towards saturday and sunday, there are a couple of weak systems over the top of the ridge bringing with it clouds and slight chance of showers mainly to our north. let's check the slick surfaces with elizabeth. >> if you are wondering what drippy looks like here's a live look at golden gate bridge, a little wet. this is drippy. so far, so good though across the golden gate bridge. they have not done the lane change yet so easy commute from marin. i mentioned that earlier car fire in orinda. that's out every lanes.

tow crew came so now the 24/680 interchange fine towards the caldecott tunnel towards oakland and the macarthur maze. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are off, of course. 6:20, that's usually our time when they turn them on so for right now you're good to go into san francisco. again, just watch out for slick roads across the bay area. here's live look at the san mateo bridge. our camera is jiggling back and forth a little bit, too, so maybe a little breezy out there, as well. i had mentioned the delays on the vallejo baylink ferry. they are having to shuttle bus some service out of vallejo this morning. so several delays on the ferry service. otherwise bart, ace, muni, everything else is on time. that's your traffic and weather. back to you. >> thank you. check your mailbox. you may be getting a letter from pg&e. the utility is getting in contact with 2.5 million homes and businesses that are close to its natural gas pipeline. it's all in response to last year's deadly explosion and fire involving a pg&e pipeline in san bruno. the utility has begun sending safety brochures and

informational letters to all the homes and other buildings within 2,000 feet of those pipelines. today the parents of a teenaged boy fatally shot by a friend in san francisco are expected to speak publicly for the first time. 16-year-old andy zeng was shot in the back of the head april 9. the accused shooter is a 15- year-old whose name has not been released yet. his lawyer says the boy thought the gun was unloaded. prosecutors said he tried to burn the victim's body afterwards. the d.a. says the 15-year-old will not be tried as an adult. the suspect has yet to enter a plea in juvenile court. 4:40. two photojournalists have been killed in libya. british-born tim hetherington and another man were hit by a rocket-propelled grenade on a street in the center of the city that's seen intense

iphones and ipads that keeps a report of where those devices have been when it was that theirs. they unveiled their findings at a technology conference in santa clara. they say they have created a program that lets people see what information their iphones have stored. >> this is a potentially damaging amount of information for some people. you know, if you have a jealous spouse or if the file gets into the hands of somebody who is investigating you, this tells them about your life. >> so far, apple isn't commenting. those researchers say they have seen no evidence that information is being sent electronically from the phone. can't wait to rent the latest movie? starting today you won't have to. several studios signing onto a new directv plan to bring big- screen hits into your living room just 60 days after coming out in theater. usually you have to wait about four months to rent the dvd.

welcome back. bp suing the owner of the oil rig that exploded in the gulf of mexico. suing them for $40 billion. bp says the transocean and the maker of the device that failed to stop the massive spill were

negligent and helped cause the disaster. in turn, transocean filed its own suit yesterday looking for bp to pay them $13 million to help them make up for the money lost when the rig sank. the faa says from now on air traffic supervisors will handle flights carrying the first lady or the vice president. the change follows an incident monday when a plane carrying mrs. obama and the vice president's wife had to abort a landing after it got too close to a military cargo plane. in another move by the faa, two air traffic controllers have been fired for sleeping on duty. agency announced the firings last night. one controller worked in miami. the other at knoxville, tennessee. other cases of sleeping controllers have been reported in washington, seattle and reno. the hubble telescope 21 years ago old and still going strong. nasa celebrating the anniversary with a new image captured by hubble that resemble a rose blossom.

it shows a group of interacting galaxies called arp-273. an estimated 300 million light- years away. beautiful. >> lawrence? are you there? >> i'm just mesmerized by that beautiful picture. hard to believe that that's 21 years old and the shuttle program is 30 years old. >> what a workforce. >> something else, still delivering the great pictures. speaking of great pictures you may not think this is that great we have some high-def doppler radar showing rainfall around the bay area mostly light but it's drippy and wet a little pocket of moisture may be just kind of truck moving by on the highway being picked up by doppler but you get the idea we are seeing light showers out there now. the good news is it's going to start to diminish through the day and it looks like becoming partly cloudy skies toward the afternoon. but you have cloudy conditions now and showers moving through right now and breezy inside the

bay. this afternoon a little sunshine, too. it will still be breezy around the bay area. temperatures not bad. 50s and 60s. so your cold front limping onshore a weak system but just enough to squeeze out the drops overnight. here it comes riding by not much energy with that but it's going to continue to move by so the showers will be moving out throughout the morning hours today. the big question is, for the weekend, we have this next system out here that's going to be dropping over the top of that ridge and headed into the bay area bringing with it a lot of clouds. the question, will we see some raindrops out of that as we head through the weekend? temperatures for today, 67 degrees in san jose. 64 in fremont. about 63 degrees in san mateo. and 58 in pacifica. east bay under partly cloudy skies this afternoon could warm up to as high as 68 in brentwood, 68 antioch and 66 degrees in walnut creek. how about our friends in the north bay? they are going to enjoy some temperatures in the 50s at the coast. you get a lot of 60s in many of

the interior valleys. showers this morning, partly cloudy throughout the day. not a washout today. tomorrow looking dry. the weekend gets interesting again. a lot of clouds, a slight chance of showers best chance will be toward the north. temperatures mild even throughout the entire weekend. and then we're looking good as we head in toward monday, tuesday and wednesday of next week. all right. let's get a traffic check with elizabeth. >> all right. thank you, lawrence. let's go out towards the dumbarton bridge. we have some roadwork on the dumbarton bridge. i'm just seeing it in the westbound lanes past the radio towers towards the menlo park side of the bridge. still seeing top speeds on all of our traffic sensors so that's good news if you are heading towards the bay bridge toll plaza. lawrence mentioned slick spots so we have some wet roads there but otherwise no problems right now heading into san francisco. the rest of the east bay looks great. here's live look at 880 through oakland, north- and southbound traffic. hard to see of the northbound

traffic right now. they are heading towards downtown oakland. it is an easy ride towards downtown this morning. 15 minutes between 238 and the macarthur maze. southbound looks good towards oakland airport. to the south bay all green on all of your traffic sensors. haven't seen any incidents on the guadalupe parkway, 280, coming out of downtown san jose, there is a live look you can see a couple of headlights there approaching the 880 interchange. i do want to zoom in, though, towards 280 and the guadalupe parkway. they are doing some graffiti removal around that interchange between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. today so various lanes blocked. the connector ramps in that area blocked at different times. so watch out for that. i know we're efforting a live picture from that area in the next little bit but again that's just in the south bay. all right. mass transit rider, vallejo baylink ferry using shuttle buses for morning ferry service. otherwise bart, ace, muni, everything else is on time. and remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9- fm.

old. and they found that a tenfold increase during pesticide exposure during pregnancy translated into a 5.5 drop in the child's iq scores. they recommend limiting food with pesticides and buying organic. is there a link between spring and sadness? we are in the middle of allergy season and many doctors say there is a real connection between allergies and your moods. specifically, depression. researchers show a person suffering from allergies is depressed about twice as often as those who are not allergic but scientific studies haven't shown a link. it's not just royal wedding five in britain these days. they are also celebrating a big birthday. queen elizabeth ii believe it or not turns 85 today. she took the throne back in 1953 after the death of her father. she has four children and eight grandchildren including grandson prince william who
