brothel. now he uncovers new details about a woman that the cop arrested for prostitution who then allegedly went to work for him. reporter: as commander of cnet the contra costa county narcotics task force, norman wielsch had two main duties, rid the streets of drugs and stop the sex trade by going after prostitutes and johns. now he has admitted to selling the very drugs confiscated by the officers in his command and is facing new accusations he was running a brothel in this pleasant hill strip mall. and not just running a brothel here. but also running off the competition. cbs 5 has learned private investigator chris butler who rented this now abandoned office space has told state detectives his friend wielsch used his powers as the task force commander to shut down other houses of prostitution in contra costa county to bolster business at his own brothel. two years ago, wielsch arrested this woman and charged her with running a house of prostitution in walnut creek. court records show that charge

was later reduced to disturbing the peace. a few months later cbs 5 has learned jordi sims ended up working here. she talked at length with state investigators about how wielsch and butler ended up running the brothel. sims would often sit at a desk in the front according to the property manager and claimed she was helping butler open up a second private investigations office to screen job candidates. but neighbors observed something different. a steady stream of men coming and going late into the night and working girls letting them in. >> i thought it was prostitution, for sure. what else was it going to be? >> reporter: when neighbors complained, the pleasant hill police department says it was their protocol to refer them to none other than cnet, the task force led by norman wielsch. >> this is the kind of thing that we don't want in our communities. but to have law enforcement ignore it or actually take advantage of it is -- is a shameful thing. >> reporter: in pleasant hill, joe vazquez, cbs 5. >> wielsch's attorney told joe

that accusations his client was involved in a brothel in any way, shape or form are completely false but the attorney does say that wielsch does admit to stealing and selling the drugs. a march in oakland to take back the streets. jean quan planning to demonstrate against prostitution. several others are also expected. the march starts at 17th and east 15th. massive cuts to public safety is the focus of a special budget meeting at 9 a.m. this morning in san jose. it's all part of a series of meetings to deal with an estimated $115 million deficit. and among the major cuts, those planned for police and fire departments are the most controversial. under the city manager's proposed budget, 195 police positions would be cut including 122 layoffs, 64 firefighter positions would be cut. five of them would be through layoffs. the city council will vote on a budget plan next month. the man arrested for trying

to storm the cockpit of an sfo plane will be back in court this morning. rageh al-murisi has a detention hearing to determine if he will remain in federal custody. a federal magistrate denied bail for him tuesday saying he was a threat to the community. al-murisi is accused of trying to break into the cockpit of a flight from chicago bound for sfo on sunday night. new this morning, the pakistani taliban claiming responsibility for the deadliest attack since bin laden's death. at least 80 people were killed in twin explosions at a parliamentary training center in the northwestern part of pakistan. nearly all of the victims were recruits. a spokesman for the pakistani taliban said its fighters conducted the attack in retaliation for osama bin laden's death. evidence from bin laden's compound is providing the u.s. government with names of previously unknown terrorist operatives. meanwhile, helmet camera video suggests there was only one firefight during the raid that

killed bin laden. it was in a guest house where a courier opened fire and was gunned down. bin laden was shot by two navy seals in the main house. other evidence recovered includes notes about a planned attack on the u.s. this september to mark 10 years since the 9/11 attacks. >> he kept all of that information and he kept all of the data, computers, hard drives, and this is what we're analyzing and it shows that his focus was clearly the united states. >> dutch ruppersberger was one of those allowed to see photos of the corpse. bin laden's sent and received a lot of e-mails in his final years even though he was in hiding hand no internet access. sources told the "associated press" a careful system had been set up that allowed bin laden leave no digital fingerprints. we first type a message and put it on a flash drive which a trusted courier would then send

from a distant internet cafe. those e-mails are also expected to provide valuable information to the united states. police now believe the murder-suicide at san jose state university's parking garage resulted from a domestic dispute. 54-year-old napoleon caliguiran allegedly shot and killed his wife and another man before killing himself. 25-year-old cindy caliguiran and 26-year-old kyle williams were honor students at san jose state just weeks away from graduation. a professor who taught both victims said they were not involved in a romantic relationship. and more teacher protests are planned in the bay area today against state cuts to education. california teachers association state of emergency campaign wraps up with a rally in front of san francisco city hall this morning. this morning, teachers plan rallies at four high schools on the peninsula. and in sacramento, 26 teachers were arrested during a protest at the state capital. chp officers made the arrests after the building was

scheduled to close at 6:00. the teachers are now facing misdemeanor trespassing charges. 4:38. let's go ahead and get a quick look at traffic and weather on this friday. and lawrence, i guess we should enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. are you telling us there's not going to be any sunshine this weekend? >> well, not a whole lot. we have a chance of rage. it's getting late in the season, folks, and we have a chance of rain, more rain in the bay area. look, like a good day today. clouds at the coast moving onshore. not a rainout on saturday but i think as we head in towards saturday night, a chance of showers begins to show up. so right now outside you have some partly cloudy skies. temperatures running in the 50s and the 40s. by this afternoon, should be another beautiful day. temperatures in the 70s. inland 73. 73 in the napa valley. 72 santa rosa. cooler at the coast. 50s and 60s. but as we look toward that all- important weekend, yup, those clouds begin rolling in late in

the day and looks like saturday evening a chance of showers develops across the bay area. rain becoming likely as we head in towards sunday and just to make it more fun, we put a chance of thunderstorms in there, too. you could see some of those popping up in toward the afternoon. chance of showers continues into monday and tuesday of next week. and elizabeth, it's looking like that doesn't look like fun. >> just mixing it up. love it. it's okay. i'm good with anything. thank you, lawrence. let's go towards oakland in the east bay. westbound 580 seminary avenue on-ramp shut down, the scene of an accident. chp is out there now. the main lines of the freeway look okay across that stretch. dumbarton bridge we have our ongoing roadwork in the eastbound lanes of the bridge approaching the high-rise. should be wrapping up by about 6:00 this morning. so watch out for that. just a slight delay right now. westbound traffic looks okay. again, going against the commute, we have more roadwork on the bay bridge, just in the lower deck as you approach the decline section. sounds like a couple of right lanes -- actually three right lanes are blocked until 6 a.m.

evidence like this after court proceedings are finished but the sale that begins next wednesday will raise money that will go to the victims and their families. texas congressman ron paul is back in the race for president! he will make it official today. this is his third time stumping for the white house. he is up against former speaker newt gingrich and former massachusetts governor mitt romney for the gop nomination. republicans are keeping an eye on indiana governor mitch daniels who may jump into the race. i don't know, guys. my poll numbers may be going down this weekend as we are seeing a chance of rain returning to the bay area but today should be nice. partly cloudy skies around the bay area right now. clear skies inland at this hour. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. i think as we head toward the afternoon again, looking at mostly sunny skies, breezy inside the bay mainly into the 60s and cooler at the coast, 50s and low 60s.

but there are some changes in the works as high pressure holds on. you can see clouds gathering off the coast. eventually some of this moisture sweeps in for tomorrow. doesn't look like it's going to be a washout for the better part of saturday but into saturday evening, saturday night, i think rain becomes a real possibility. so big changes in store for the weekend as high pressure against out of the way. the low will drop into the bay area. showers saturday night, rain likely on sunday. even a chance of isolated thunderstorms. things could get interesting. late in the season for this type storm system. today 70 and sunshine in the valley. 70 los gatos. 69 in sunnyvale. 66 union city. east bay temperatures warming up nicely. in antioch and brentwood, easily into the 70s. about 70 in danville, 69 in san ramon and 63 degrees in alameda.
