up. back to you. now we know the rest of the story, the likely reason arnold schwarzenegger and maria shriver have separated. sharon chin is in san francisco with the bombshell that arnold dropped earlier year. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yes. schwarzenegger said after he left the governor's office told his wife that he had fathered this love child more than a decade before and he apparently had been providing financially for the child from the start. according to the "l.a. times," schwarzenegger told his wife that he had fathered the child before his first run for office with the long-time married member of their household staff. the staff member worked for the couple for 20 years and retired in january and received a severance payment and left on "good terms" with the couple. schwarzenegger acknowledged the reason, saying i understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. there are no excuses and i take

full responsibility for the hurt i have caused. i have apologized to maria, my children and my family. i am truly sorry. >> just last week they separated after 25 years of marriage. >> we both love each other very much. we are very fortunate that we have four extraordinary children. and we're taking one day at a time. >> reporter: the former governor has suggested they were working toward reconciliation. but shriver's friends say that she has been unhappy for years but waited until after her parents died and schwarzenegger left the governor's office to leave. a spokesman for shriver had no comment. and schwarzenegger said that he would like the media to grant them private, the family private, especially during this difficult time. >> sharon chin live in san francisco, sharon, thank you. this morning, the race for

catch his attackers. he was flown from l.a. to san francisco and he went to san francisco general. the hospital is of course closer to stow's family from santa clara county and is nationally known for expertise in treating brain injuries. >> basically, there is imaging, a large pile of medical reports. >> we don't know how long he will be in the icu at san francisco general but at some point he will be transferred to a long-term care facility for rehab. >> he has been in a coma for six weeks. 1,000 law enforcement official will gather today in downtown san jose to explore ways of protecting kids from predator. u.s. attorney generic holder is among those attending the 2011 national strategy conference on combatting child exploitation. the focus is on trying to keep kids safe from sexual abuse and slavery. child porn has been one of the

fastest growing categories of cases in u.s. courts over the past decade. the conference runs through friday at mcenery convention center. closing arguments set to begin in oakland today in the murder tried of two men connected with "your black muslim bakery." yusef bey iv and antoine mckay are each charged with three counts of murder. prosecutors say they were involved in the killings of journalist chauncey bailey and two other men back in 2007. bailey had been in the process of writing an article about the bakery's financial problems. a crucial vote in oakland tonight on funding for gang injunctions. a move against 40 defendants in the fruitvale district is awaiting a judge's decision. and a separate injunction already in place against 15 others in north oakland. now the city council will take a stand by voting on whether the city attorney or the police department can spend any more money on enforcing the two injunctions. critics say they hurt relations

between police and the community. memorial day weekend could be a bit of a hassle for people who have to drive across the bay bridge. >> east bay drivers will have to take a detour to allow construction of the eastern span to be completed ahead of schedule. bridge officials plan to provide details of the detour at a news conference later this morning. let's check traffic and weather around the bay area. we'll start with kristy. we have more rain in the forecast. >> definitely hold on to the umbrella today. you will need it again. we are seeing more showers, lingering showers that have come through last night and you can see on hi-def doppler some sprinkles that are in parts of the east bay now and we'll continue to see even more rain later on this afternoon. satellite is showing us that rain that came in overnight and we see there is another batch of moisture that's going to make its way in and bring us rain into the evening and maybe even into the early-morning hours on wednesday.

so not quite done with the umbrella and raincoat yet. hang on to them for today. temperatures not warming up a lot. still feels unseasonably cool. 62 in concord and livermore. 60 redwood city. 57 san rafael today. as we look at the extended forecast, rain sticking around for the next couple of days. we see sunshine on thursday and some warmer temperatures as well friday. a little bit of cloud cover building and slight dip in temperature for the weekend and then nice and warm on monday finally getting back to the 70s closer to where we should be this time year. elizabeth has traffic. >> thank you. and the wet weather does nothing to help our morning commute. unfortunately, we are just getting word of a new accident. heading towards the caldecott tunnel, westbound in around fish ranch road a couple of lanes blocked, possibly injuries. plus we have a couple of wind advisories on some of our bridges including the san mateo bridge. you can see in the distance caltrans has their warning signs up. not causing a delay in your

morning ride but 13 minutes from hayward towards foster city and the peninsula. we have several wind advisories this morning, one for the san mateo bridge, one for the benicia bridge, and also one for the bay bridge. right now traffic is still pretty light on all your approaches towards the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see the metering lights are definitely off for another couple of hours or so, so right now an east ride is into san francisco except for the high winds especially on the san francisco side of the span. golden gate bridge looks great. they have not done the lane change yet. we'll continue to follow this as well but mass transit is on time. that's a check of traffic and weather. back to you. >> thank you. we have some breaking news out of ireland. a bomb was destroyed just hours before queen elizabeth's historic visit there. there was a massive police presence for her arrival. the bomb was found on a bus last night. another threat was found to be a hoax. some live pictures here of the ceremonies just under way in dublin. queen elizabeth will be the

first british monarch to visit the republic of ireland since it gained independence more than 60 years ago. one of the most powerful men in the world waking up in one of the america's most notorious jails this morning. dominique strauss kahn is at new york's rikers island. strauss is the head of the international monetary fund but was expected to make a run for the french presidency. strauss is accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid over the weekend. a judge denied him bail yesterday. his next hearing is set for friday. a stanford grad is now running the imf. 64-year-old john lipsky got his masters and ph.d. in economics at stand ford. new outrage pg&e. how millions of dollars meant for pipeline repairs went unspent. >> the governor made it clear he still needs to raise taxes. we'll tell you how much it would really cost. and blackberry's newest tablet is a big bust.

another cool one in the bay area today. temperatures well below average, only 62 for san jose and concord, 60 in oakland and only 58 in the city. cyclists in the amgen tour of california will be biking in the rain again today as they pedal from auburn to modesto. after sunday's snowout at lake tahoe the race finally got started on a shortened course yesterday. they went 76 miles from nevada city to sacramento. tomorrow the race will run from livermore to san jose. governor jerry brown is easing the pain a little bit with a new revised version of his state budget plan. he unveiled details yesterday in sacramento. it considers an unexpected $6.6 billion in new revenues

allowing the governor put $3 billion more toward education compared with the january plan. but the plan still calls for the continuation of increases in some taxes and fees. cbs 5 crunched the numbers and determined the sales tax increase costs the average californian $121 a year. the vehicle license fee is an extra $150 a year for a $30,000 car. >> so when some people say, hey, you got some more money we're out of the woods, untrue. >> of course, the democratic governor needs help from some republican lawmakers to get those proposals passed. people in san jose planning to rally at city hall plaza this afternoon to opposed planned budget cuts to neighborhood services. the city is dealing with a massive budget deficit and is moving ahead with cost-cutting plans like police and fire department layoffs and reduced library hours. the protestors contend there are plenty of other ways to

reduce costs. the rally begins this afternoon at 5:30. a bay area come woman says pg&e spent less month -- congress month says pg&e spent less than it was supposed to replacing aging pipelines. they underspent by $183 million between 1987 and 1999 according to jackie speier. the state puc had approved a plan to collect more money for customers but now state regulators don't know what happened to the leftover funds which could have been used to replace the pipeline that blew up in san bruno. a setback for the makers of a new tablet computer. 1,000 blackberry play books are being recalled because of defective software that prevents users from even setting up the device. how frustrating would that be. you get a new device, can't set it up. only 16-gigabyte play books are affected and will replace them

bus. 4:48. two tourists from texas recovering this morning after a freak accident at alcatraz. the tourists were in a tram that hit a pipe sticking out of a wall. the tram's roof collapsed cutting a woman's eye and a man's forehead. both were taken to the san francisco waterfront and taken to the hospital. their injuries are not life- threatening. two hikers died in separate accidents on the same day at yosemite national park. 35-year-old james dunbar from berkeley was killed when he tripped and fell while running down the upper yosemite fall trail. he hit his head on a rock. and 60-year-old ken butler from austin, texas, apparently drowned after slipping on a rock slab and falling into the merced river. a louisiana farming community built for hurricane katrina evacuees now gathering places for families driven from their homes by the mississippi river flooding. a couple of dozen families have moved there because their towns are threatened by flooding from the mississippi and other

scattered showers out there even this morning. you see in morning. temperatures cool. high 40s to low 50s. breeze at the bay and the coast. showers pick up this afternoon, high 50s to the low 60s in the warmest locations, well below average. the low is passing through. high pressure will bring us warmer drier conditions, probably afternoon on wednesday and into thursday but for today you will definitely see some sprinkles out there and we are going to time that out on pinpoint forecast. scattered showers throughout most of the morning and then it

picks up into the commute hours. highs today a degree or two warmer in some locations, 61 fairfield an fremont, the city at 58. over the next several days, wet weather and drying out and warming up on thursday, friday cloud cover building in for the weekend a slight chance of showers. then on monday, warming up, sunny, bumping into the low 70s at the warmest locations. so closer to normal. elizabeth has traffic. >> an accident orinda westbound 24 a couple of cars involved before you get to the caldecott tunnel near fish ranch road. left lane is blocked and there is some slight slowing past the scene. once you get past the caldecott tunnel then everything moves fine on westbound 24 through the macarthur maze through oakland.

here's the bay bridge toll plaza. we do have a high wind advisory in effect for the bay bridge the benicia bridge and san mateo bridge issued by chp. overnight roadwork on the dumbarton bridge has been picked, westbound 84 approaching the high ride. overnight roadwork supposed to wrap up by 5 but it wrapped up early. 880 through oakland looks great. as play anaheim tonight so watch out for delays later on this evening but now good to go. and you can see how windy it is. so again watch out for the driving conditions this morning. wet slick and windy this morning. mass transit might be a great day to use it. everything is on time for bart, ace, muni metro and caltrain. remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9- fm. that's your traffic and

weather. back to you. >> thank you. the food and drug administration meeting today to discuss changes to children's over-the-counter pain relievers and fever reducers. they are considering adding dosage instructions to children's tylenol and similar products with acetaminophen for kids under the age of 2. the current directions tell parents to seek a doctor's advice. but critics say that leads to confusion. a bizarre twist in the investigation of that pageant mother who said that she giving her 8-year-old daughter botox. kerry campbell appeared on "good morning america" last week saying she injected her daughter with botox. but campbell may not live here in san francisco and there's word that kerry campbell may not even be her real name. the revelations come as abc news reports that campbell's daughter britney was taken by

child protection services over the weekend. san francisco giants are getting involved with the -- it gets better" campaign to help gays who face bullying. they will be the first to make a video on it. there is no decision on the exactly who will participate in making it. the nfl lockout will stay in place for at least a few more weeks if not longer. a federal appeals court has sided with the nfl and says the lockout can continue until a full appeal is heard on whether it's legal. that hearing is scheduled for june 3. the decision came as owners and players resumed mediation behind closed doors. >> nobody really cares about this right now but come like august and september -- >> exactly. >> if this is still going on, what is america going to do without football? ! >> those poor players not training, it will be tough. >> they want to get to work and the other guys are saying not
