today! lots of sunshine around the bay area, comfortable temperatures. 70s in concord, cooler in san francisco into the 60s and, of course, the patchy fog at the coastline. we are going to check the weekend forecast in a few minutes. right now, let's get check traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. we had an earlier overnight accident on the dumbarton and they are telling us that various lanes blocked westbound 84 approaching the toll plaza. in a minute here we are going to show you a live look, i promise. here's a live look at traffic towards the dumbarton bridge. so yeah, various lanes blocked between there and university avenue. they are hoping to have everything wrapped up by 5:00 in the morning. in the meantime at the bay bridge toll plaza, friday light. we are hoping it stays that way. more traffic in a bit. back to you. >> all right, guys. thank you. a man shot driving in the north bay in critical condition this morning. >> that man had been shot while driving on eastbound 780 in vallejo. he drove four more miles. finally stopping for help in a mcdonald's on second street in

benicia. anne makovec is in benicia with more on the people trying to help the victim. >> reporter: good morning. people here at this mcdonald's in benicia snapped into action when they saw a man bloodied. he had been shot stumbling into the restaurant a little after 8:00 last night. look at the car he was driving at that point. it was riddled with bullets. apparently he feels driving down 780 and a car pulled up next to him and started firing. he was injured. he continued driving about four miles and that is when ended up at this mcdonald's and stumbled in. he also had a friend with him in the car. that friend helped him into the mcdonald's. they were obviously in desperate straits. one of the employees was a medical assistant. >> we grabbed towels to stop the bleeding and i handed my phone to another employee to stay on the phone with the police department and rain back and got phil because i knew he

was an "ma" and he could help out. >> i grabbed gloves and towels and ran up front and there were people already applying pressure to the wound and they wanted to put on a tourniquette and things. i told them to just keep the pressure on. >> reporter: he was airlifted to john muir medical center. at last word he was in critical condition. police don't have any word on a suspect description or description of the car. the highway patrol is investigating the incident since it happened on 780 on the freeway. so we are waiting to hear more information from them on this man's condition and how they will crack the case. back to you guys. >> talk about good fortune having a medical assistance working at the mcdonald's. >> reporter: yeah, amazing. just imagine eating dinner and having that occur.

everybody was very shaken up. there was some screaming in the restaurant. but no real panic according to the people that were here last night. everybody just kind of did what needed to be done. >> thank you, anne makovec in benicia. 4:34 now. oakland police are staying tight-lipped about what happened just before officers shot and killed two suspects. police responded to a tip on wednesday night saying a violent crime was about to happen on curran avenue. when they got there, they found three men in a car. police say the armed men confronted officers who then opened fire. two men were shot and died at the scene. a third man ran but was later arrested. police say the shooting was gang-related. the pakistani taliban claiming responsibility for a bomb attack today on an armored vehicle carrying u.s. officials. two americans had minor injuries but one pakistani passerby was killed. at least 10 others were wounded.

it happened in northwest pakistan. local police say the explosive was a car bomb. apparently it was detonated by remote. the pakistan italian, an al qaeda-related group, the pakistan taliban said it was revenge for the raid that killed osama bin laden. it is expected to be a tense meeting today at the white house between president obama and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. this comes just a day after mr. obama delivered a speech that is not sitting well with israeli leaders. the president supports a palestinian state based on 1967 borders. that was before the six-day war in which israel occupied east jerusalem, the west bank and gaza. >> square by square, town by town, country by country, the people have risen up to demand their basic human rights. >> netanyahu called the president's idea indefensible saying those borders would jeopardize israel's security.

the former head of the international monetary fund expected to be released from jail today. dominique strauss-kahn accused of sexually assaulting a housekeeper at a new york hotel. a judge allowed strauss-kahn to post $1 million bail despite prosecutor arguments he is a flight risk. strauss-kahn will remain under house arrest. it is 4:36 now. preventing another disaster like the one in san bruno. that's the purpose of pipeline tests today being held in antioch. pg&e will test the natural gas pipeline for weaknesses. they will vent gas. if you smell it, it's not harmful. they performed the same tests in antioch and mountain view last week. so far no problems. let's talk to lawrence and elizabeth and find out what's happening with our friday traffic and weather. more sunshine, lawrence? we hope so. >> yeah. i think we're going to have a great friday here in the bay area. changes over the weekend. you can see why behind me. you have a cold front that's

approaching the coastline. most of the energy is going to run over the top of this ridge but we are going to see a few high clouds from that over parts of the day today. still, a lot of sunshine coming our way. temperatures comfortable again. out the door, low clouds and fog. 40s and 50s outside but by the afternoon here comes that sunshine. and a few passing high clouds, still temperatures moving well into the 70s inland as high as 75 in fairfield, 74 in concord, 73 degrees in san jose. out at the coast, you have the fog and low clouds dancing at the coast, keeping temperatures down. over the weekend things will change as a weak system slides in. but we removed the chance of rainfall on sunday so we'll just see passing cloud and much cooler temperatures, probably a very breezy weekend as we'll see that cool air flowing off of the pacific. but after that looks like tuesday and wednesday, temperatures begin to warm back up here in the bay area. yeah, not a heat wave but elizabeth, at least we're talking about 70s in the warmest spots. >> i can handle that. that's great especially towards

the east bay, really nice to find that one patch of sun and don't move. roadwork right now. westbound 92 between hesperian and clawiter various lanes blocked for at least a half hour so here's live look at the san mateo bridge. conditions across the bridge itself look great, no major issues towards foster city and the peninsula. i had mentioned the dumbarton bridge. traffic towards the toll plaza, it's actually roadwork going on right now in westbound 84 making various lanes blocked again until about 5:00 this morning. we were seeing a little bit of slowing on our sensors. they have turned back again to green so maybe they are in the process now of picking up it a little ahead of schedule. bay bridge, you can see of the westbound approach into san francisco. looks great right now, no delay heading into san francisco, no metering lights. all the approaches look good as well but want to let you know on the lower deck toward oakland we have a little bit of roadwork around treasure island. again, they are telling us various lanes blocked until about 6:00 this morning. it's not causing any big delay

"people" magazine reports she hired divorce attorney laura wasser. tmz says mildred baena was obsessed with maria shriver and would dress up in her clothes and wear her jewelry. after baena's son was born, schwarzenegger made child support payments, as well. experts say that could

complicate his legal fight. >> if they get divorced, then maria shriver might claim that arnold schwarzenegger improperly diminished community assets by spending money -- the couple's money on this other woman. >> according to "people" magazine, wasser was hired before the word became public of that affair. new evidence linking the unabomer to a series of other high-profile crimes. we'll tell you why he is now trying to stop the feds from selling his stuff. >> plus, fundraising to save san jose's police force patrol. is it all for nothing is why the city is changing its tune. >> no baseball in my backyard. why neighbors in one bay area city are fighting to keep a minor league team out. ,, ,,,,,,

north american league. and it would like to play at albert park in san rafael. the pro team pitched the idea to the city under the proposal the team would pay to double the size of the current 750- seat grandstand and include a mobile concession stand and several barbecue stands. some are saying sure, play ball. others are crying foul. >> it would attract outsiders who don't respect our neighborhood values in downtown san rafael. >> it's going to people to san rafael. and downtown needs a boost economically, the restaurant, bars and shops. >> if the parks and rec commission approves the proposal the team would want the stadium built by the summer of next year. 4:43. supporters of san jose's mounted police unit have stopped the fundraising efforts aimed at saving the program. the effort began when it became clear that horse patrols would be cut to help reduce the city's budget deficit. now a lawyer is demanding that

the city return some $53,000 in donations. the group believes the city manager plans to cut the program anyway even if fundraising goals are met. the city manager says she wants to meet with the group to clear things under. oakland has thousands of children spending far too little time in school. in the past school year, 5500 students missed nearly four weeks of school. the "chronicle" reports oakland schools are now tracking these chronic absences. this is also a problem in san francisco where 9% of elementary school students were chronically absent last year. well, it is a milestone for amazon.com. >> yeah. the company now sells more electronic books than printed ones. it's been fewer than four years since the company released its popular kindle ereader and now they say for every 105 ebooks sold on its website it has sold 100 paper books since april 1. >> i buy both but i like to give books away and you read one on the kindle and that's it. >> it's like reading the newspaper. i look having the newspaper so

old murder spree. th federal agents say there could be a link between the unabomber and a nearly three decade old murder spree. the firm confirms that agents have requested ted kaczynski's dna file. it's for a 1982 chicago area case that involved tylenol poisoning. seven people died. kaczynski has refused the request and denies involvement

in the case. he submitted a letter to the feds requesting that the government not auction off some items taken from his cabin. he says they could clear him from the tylenol case. an arizona college has complied with a court order to release e-mails regarding the man accused of killing six people and wounding a congresswoman. suspect jared loughner was a stay tuned at pima community college. those e-mails document several outbursts by loughner and school officials' efforts to deal with his bizarre behavior. loughner has been in custody since the january shooting spree in tucson at an event for congresswoman gabrielle giffords. the antiterrorist patriots act will likely go on for a few years. top congressional leaders have agreed to a four-year extension. it was passed in 2001 easing restrictions on law enforcement agency's ability to gather information in terrorist investigation. the deal between harry reid and john boehner calls for a vote between may 27 when parts of

the current act are set to expire. today crewmembers aboard space shuttle endeavour are taking their first spacewalk. the spacewalk is set to last six hours -- 6 1/2 hours. so far astronauts retrieved two science experiments from the international space station. later they are going to do prep work for another task later on. this is the first of four spacewalks for this mission, of the very last space mission for endeavour. all right. back here on earth, we are going to find plenty of sunshine today. we do have some low clouds and fog folks. if you are just getting up, some places still looking clear well inland but we are seeing patchy fog filling in outside so numbers in the 40s and 50s right now, low clouds continuing early on but by the afternoon here comes that sunshine under high pressure. you will see a few high clouds. these temperatures are looking good. at the coast low clouds and fog on and off with sunshine at the

beaches. it's going to be breezy and cool. 50s and low 60s. storms have moved on by. we are in the clear. off the coast the cold front is approaching bringing high clouds to the bay area for today. looks like a big-time cooldown in store for the weekend. enjoy this sunshine while we have it. that ridge sitting overhead now but much cooler weekend on tap and the winds are going to kick up around the bay area, as well. a lot of clouds expected to move into the bay area over the weekend. it looks like we are going to have nice weather for today. plan on about 75 degrees and sunny in morgan hill. 72 milpitas. 70 fremont. at the coast temperatures cool off. 60s into los altos, 67 redwood city, at the coast 50s and low 60s. east bay temperatures again looking very nice toward the

afternoon. 75 degrees in brentwood. 73 in livermore.70 in san ramon. north bay temperatures comfortable. fairfield 75, sunny. 74 napa. about 73 in petaluma. 57 degrees maybe couple of patches of fog at the coast and breezy into stinson beach. all right. the next few days, we are going to see some big changes again. doesn't look like we are worried about rain this weekend but we'll see plenty of clouds moving in and the temperatures are going to really be dropping off. breezy conditions really kicking in. looks like especially towards sunday the clouds will roll in, too. the marine layer deep enough maybe some drizzle probably not going to see sprinkles outside but maybe drizzle especially at the coastline. then it looks like after that, things hold steady into monday. but then come tuesday, wednesday, thursday of next week, looks like high pressure against to slowly build in and at least the temperatures will warm up a few degrees back into the 70s around the warmest parts of the bay area. that's a look at weather. here's elizabeth with traffic. >> thank you, lawrence. we just got off the phone with

our radio partners at kcbs phone force. and they just told us that all lanes of highway 4 except for possibly one lane are no longer blocked. we are talking eastbound highway 4 at loveridge doing full road closures there overnight. sounds like it's mostly picked up. no delay east- or westbound in and out of antioch this morning. kcbs says the westbound roadwork on the dumbarton bridge is picked up. various lanes blocked eastbound 84 but again not causing any delays this early in the morning. all the approaches to the bay bridge so far, so good. metering lights are off. yeah, very easy ride at this time of the morning on a friday so no big surprise. you still may find various lanes blocked though in the lower deck approaching treasure island. just your usual stuff through there various lanes blocked until about 6:00. the nimitz 880 through oakland here's live look. you can see those headlights moving southbound. you're cruising past oakland airport all the way into hayward no big delays and for

the danville pilot who safely landed a passenger jet in the hudson river has a new job with cbs news. that was the sully sullenberger who will be with the network's new aviation expert. he will provide aviation analysis to cbs news broadcasting when needed. as you may remember, back in january, who can forget, 2009, sully and his crew splashing down in the frigid hudson river after hitting geese after they took off. sully retired from the u.s. airways in march of 2010. a lot of people have heard this guy speak. he is amazing. 4:56. more drug cases tainted after allegations of san francisco police misconduct. we'll have the latest fallout from that string of videos. and a man is shot while driving on the freeway and then stillbles into this mcdonald's. we are live with the latest coming up. and for a while there it looked like fundraising might be able to save the horses of
