when we tart these shows. you wouldn't know by the weather. clouds are rolling in and there it is again. we have a chance of rain developing as we head throughout the morning today. really just some showery conditions expected as we head in throughout the day but we are going to have more on that and let you know if we can expect some spring sunshine and warm weather coming up in a few minutes. right now, let's check traffic with elizabeth. >> a nice morning commute? we'll have a little rain. >> very ominous. >> could be busy. >> very nervous. [ laughter ] >> all right, thank you, lawrence. let's go live towards the bay bridge. it's very dry right now heading towards the pay gates and no big issues now heading into san francisco but we have some roadwork near the highway 37- 121 interchange. roads are closed off in that area. we'll tell you all about that coming up. in the meantime, back to you guys. >> thank you. we begin with another tough day out in the midwest. more violent weather hitting middle america. >> at least 12 people are dead from storms in arkansas, kansas

and oklahoma. eight of those deaths in oklahoma. the towns of canton and chick ashea were especially hard hit. several tornadoes hitting oklahoma city during the tuesday afternoon commute hours. dozens of people are injured including three kids who are in critical condition. entire neighborhoods are wiped out. the violent weather continued into the early-morning hours. a television news crew was in the air when a tornado forms over oakland. >> i would almost say with this rotation, guys, the tornado is going to be imminent here. there is a funnel. >> there's a funnel! >> i believe we got debris on the ground, guys. we got a tornado on the ground. >> that's a tornado on the ground. >> look at that rotation there, guys, on the ground. that's amazing. >> the funnel is really starting to grow. you got vortex there on the ground. you have vortices there spinning around on the ground. we just had a big cg right out the window real close to us. there is a high likelihood of a

multivortex tornado back there on the ground as we try to circle around. we have intense, intense, cloud- to-ground lightning. >> i can see the edge of it here. it looks like it's a big tornado. >> these oklahoma stations, they have helicopters that follow these tornadoes while everybody else is trying to get out of the way. the severe weather continues today with flood warnings posted in some of the areas hit by tornadoes. and check out this amazing video. a tornado crosses a highway and rips a tractor trailer into pieces. wow. you can see parts of that rig being blown hundreds of feet into the air. there is no word this morning on the condition of the driver. there is the tractor- trailer. incredible video. sirens went off last night in joplin, missouri joplin when more storms threat that end area. that threat came as the search continues for victims of sunday's tornado. at least 122 people were killed and 1500 are still listed as missing. >> there has been other disaster incidents where people

have been found days later in void areas. so we are hopeful of that. >> authorities hope many of those who are missing survived but have not been able to contact their loved ones just yet. we are going to have a live report from joplin in our 5:00 hour and for the very latest on the storm damage, be sure and head over to our website, cbssf.com. 4:34. in other news, today a suspect in the beating of bryan stow will be part of a police line- up in front of witnesses. this as prosecutors in los angeles say they need more evidence before charges can be filed. let's go to anne makovec, she's at san francisco general hospital. that's where bryan stow remains in a coma. anne, good morning. reporter: good morning. still in critical condition here at the hospital. while the case against his alleged attacker continues to build down in l.a. now, right now, normally, suspects have to be charged within 48 hours of being jailed. otherwise, they have to be let go. but the suspect ramirez is on a

probation hold right now, which buys prosecutors a little more time to continue to build their case. today, a criminal line-up down in l.a. to see if witnesses can identify ramirez as stow's attacker. here's the sketch of ramirez that was compiled with the help of witnesses after the attack on march 31. ramirez's lawyer says his client wasn't even at the game that day, that he spent the day at his aunt's house and is willing to take a lie detector test. the stow family filed a lawsuit against the dodgers and owner frank mccourt, accusing them of failing to provide adequate security. the family says there wasn't any dodgers security in the poorly lit stadium parking lot where stow was attack. and it took security guards at least 10 to 15 minutes to arrive after that beating. >> here you have a stadium that is supposed to be for moms, dads and little kids. and the last thing you need is no security. and that is virtually what they

had. they massacred the security budget. >> reporter: the lawsuit blames owner mccourt for living a lavish lifestyle which led them to mismanaging the team's finances. eventually, leading to a quote disturbing reduction in security staff for dodger games. now, the stow family also wants the dodgers to repay all of the donations the public sent them except for a substantial gift from barry bonds who has pledged scholarships for stow's two children. sources close to the investigation in the case against ramirez say the fact that they haven't officially charged him yet is no reflection on the strength or weakness of the case. they say they just have a little more time since they have this probation hold so they are trying to make the case as strong as possible. >> but again they will have that police line-up today. that will be interesting. thank you, mackinac san francisco. a vigil will be held tonight for a missing danville girl whose bike was found in san francisco locked up near the golden gate bridge.

15-year-old allison bayliss last seen monday near her locker at san ramon valley high and a missing persons flyer said she had left a suicide note. law enforcement, the coast guard, the national park service, lots of volunteers, all searching for the girl yesterday along the shoreline. time now is 4:37. a san ramon police officer at the center of a drug scandal is off the force. 38-year-old lewis lombardi faces five felony charges. he was arrested earlier this month as part of an investigation into the central contra costa narcotics enforcement team. "contra costa times" reporting it's not known whether lombardi resigned or if he was fired. drunk driving charges will not be filed against the intrim mayor of san carlos. andy klein was arrested may 12 after a breathalyzer suggested his blood alcohol level was .08. that's the minimum of a dui charge. but san mateo county d.a.'s office says the actual blood test was .07. just the night before klein took himself out of the running

for a long-term appointment for that mayoral seat. the city of san jose is not in a fiscal emergency at least for the time being. but the city council voted yesterday to keep the possibility alive as it looks for solutions to its budget deficit. councilmembers wanted more time to consider ways of reforming the pension system for city employees. >> i think the budget process itself will be pretty good evidence of the crisis that we face and the need for very difficult action. >> the city council is expected to vote june 21 on whether to declare a fiscal emergency and whether to put a pension reform measure on the november ballot. the city faces a budget deficit of $115 million.

span. out of the waldo tunnel to the north tower side of the golden gate bridge, various lanes blocked until 5 p.m. a.m. everything looks good heading into san francisco. if you are continuing northbound towards santa rosa, turns out this accident still blocking one lane northbound 101 at todd road. this was reported as a major injury crash. slowing in both directions. chp out there investigating that accident as well as this one in san francisco. this was serious injuries involved in this crash as well. a pedestrian versus car. we learned that the streets just re-opened in san francisco near pierce and lombard. so again, that's the news there as the streets jus re-opened. ongoing roadwork highway 37 closed between 121 and highway 129. and one more quick look at a very dark shot of the san mateo bridge where apparently the world has ended at the san

but the question is, who exactly is going to end one those 669 numbers? santa clara county supervisors don't want the county divided in half. >> we always associate 408 with san jose. you know? there are people who parade t- shirts that say 408. they are proud of being a san josean. >> that's right. a geographic split would mean half the people would have to switch t-shirts -- switch area codes. the board recommended the puc implement an overlay plan. the 669 would be the same as 408 with newly assigned numbers getting the new area code. >> we get a little territorial. i was 415 and 510 then 925. at any rate. it is 4:44 now. neighbors fought it and now granny says, well, she doesn't say anything. they might be saving her, though. from the chopping block. the san francisco puc was planning to cut down the nearly 300-year-old tree near redwood city to make way for a new

water pipeline but now it's looking into building a tunnel around it. the question is how the tunneling would affect the tree and how the roots might affect the pipe. a spokesman admits the puc should have met with neighbors a little earlier in the process. ceremony is planned this morning for new flights between the bay area and o'hare international airport in chicago. it's a new route for virgin america airlines, which only offers local flights out of san francisco. it's not clear whether this will affect prices on other airlines which already offer chicago flights from all three area airports. >> good competition. >> great airline, too. google plans to unveil a mobile payment service this week. >> it will reportedly be available on phones from sprint nextel. the service allows consumers with specially equipped phones that have google's android operating system to pay for items and redeem coupons. wall street journal reports it will work with credit and debit

[ hedging ] >> the jewish american woman was protesting what she said were israeli war crimes against the palestinians but the israeli leader said he wanted peace the palestinians. the woman was escorted out by police. president barack obama has wrapped up a meeting with british prime minister david cameron at 10 downing street. it was the first meeting for the president on his second and final day in london. the two leaders were expected to talk about the situation in libya and about u.s. plans to withdraw forces from afghanistan. i think we have some live pictures. we are waiting for a joint press conference likely to be studied intently for clues to the strength of the special relationship just about to get under way. sydnie? a judge in arizona expected to rule today on whether the suspect in the tucson shooting rampage is mentally competent to stand trial. jared loughner will appear at today's hearing accused of killing six people and wounding

congresswoman gabrielle giffords. the judge has been reviewing reports by two doctors. giffords now back at a rehabilitation hospital in houston after surgery last week. a synthetic replacement was put into her skull and she got a permanent shunt to relieve permanent fluid build-up in her brain. >> they showed pictures of her walking at nasa. >> and able to see her husband blast off into space. right now two astronauts from the space shuttle endeavour are conducting a spacewalk. >> they are. here's a live look in outer space right now about 220 miles above the earth. this is the third spacewalk of the mission. the astronauts are working on the russian segment of international space station. 220 miles away, they plan to install new electrical cables and later they will hook up an attachment for the space station's robot arm. that looked like my work

[ laughter ] >> hey, folks. if you are heading out the door today we have a lot of clouds making their way into our skies. can you believe it? we have another chance of some rain and we're starting to see some of the green already showing up outside even some yellows there farther north portions of the bay area. now, this is a slow mover and it's going to fall apart as it makes its way through the bay area. still keep that umbrella with you today if you are heading out. you're probably going to need it at some point. so out the door this morning, we got mostly cloudy skies chance of showers developing mainly to our north. temperatures fairly mild in the 40s and 50s. this afternoon cooler than average and still a chance of showers around the bay area. you will see some sunny breaks in between the clouds but you get the idea things staying unsettled. pretty impressive cold front for this time year diving into the bay area. not a ton of energy with it but enough to hold enough together and could bring a couple of scattered showers around the bay area. so plan on that for today. then looks like things will begin to dry out but it's going to be breezy toward the afternoon. all right. this is how we're playing it.

we'll see the cold front wandering across the bay area and then it starts to fall apart and so we are going to catch a little sunshine in between the clouds but there is a chance of showers on and off for the better part of the day. so be prepared for that. temperatures are going to be running well below average and it's going to be breezy especially at the coast. plan on only 57 degrees in pacifica. that's not that unusual for this time of year but only mid- 60s inland. that's pretty unusual. 64 livermore. 66 san jose. 65 degrees in fairfield. all right. let's see if we can get things right toward the next seven days. temperatures warming up a little bit. it's going to be dry for tomorrow a few passing clouds. friday a few more clouds move in as a weak system dives into the bay area. there is a 40% chance of maybe a couple of showers. the holiday weekend looks dry but cooler than normal. elizabeth has traffic. >> thank you, lawrence. we are going to take you out live. we have photographers and cameras all over the bay area including this one in san jose. here's a live look at 101

traffic. this is near the alum rock exit. headlights moving northbound. so far problem-free all the way towards santa clara. and elsewhere, we have another camera near the dublin interchange. a live look at westbound and eastbound 580 traffic. those headlights are heading westbound towards the 680 dublin interchange. so far, so good about 15 minutes from the altamont pass out towards pleasanton. so yeah, looking good so far for the start of our morning commute. on the maps we'll show you the problem in santa rosa, northbound 101 approaching todd road, one lane still blocked. major injury crash overnight. chp still there. if you are continuing southbound through marin county, so far, so good. this is a live look from mill valley. southbound 101 traffic moves great. if you are continuing towards the golden gate bridge, there is still a little bit of roadwork coming out of the waldo tunnel towards the north side of the tower. to the east bay now, you can see our live traffic sensors are pretty much picking up top speeds up and down 880 from hayward into downtown oakland. here's a live look near the coliseum.

those headlights are moving southbound so if you have to rush, you're late to catch a flight to the airport, the drive should be problem-free. no roadwork across the stretch. and checking the south bay, guadalupe parkway, 1010, which we just saw thanks to our photographer edgar, no big issues now on the 101 and here's live look at 280 out of downtown san jose. very light still approaching the 880 interchange. more traffic in a bit. in the meantime, back to you guys. >> thank you. news of schwarzenegger's secret son came as a surprise to the man named on the boy's birth certificate. mildred baena's ex-husband rojelio baena tells "entertainment tonight" he learned just last week that he is not the boy's biological father. he says he will always regard the boy as his own. tmz reports it was maria shriver who broke the news that her husband had fathered a child out of wedlock. the celebrity website says shriver wanted to hold a news conference when she found out about the boy in january but friends calmed her down and
