holiday weekend for a lot of you. let's get you out the door with a quick look at traffic and weather unless you started your weekend early. >> chilly, cooler than normal around the bay area but it's not going to rain. >> great for barbecuing. >> closer to the barbecue to stay warm this weekend as winds will blow. today a lot of clouds, you have temperatures in the 60s for the most part, numbers pretty close to yesterday as we head in toward the afternoon. upper 60s as you head inland. there is a slight chance of a sprinkle in the north bay. we'll talk about that holiday weekend forecast coming up in just a minute. right now let's check on traffic. >> lawrence has a new grill. >> get that going. >> stepping up! >> here's a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. so far, so good heading into san francisco. we had an accident on the lower deck of the bay bridge that was just cleared before we got on air so it seems like things are moving better into oakland. we also have critical mass today so something to be aware of. oh-oh, yeah, they take off from justin herman plaza so watch out for that for your evening

commute home. plus we have news for bart if you plan on riding it this weekend but stay tuned for that. back to you. >> we'll have to explain to the tourists who are all here for the memorial day weekend what critical mass is so they can observe and not get stuck in it. >> might need help, too. that's the bicycles? >> exactly. >> stay off the streets. >> bay to breakers with the bikes. it is 4:32. the pressure is on the investigator of the bryan stow beating case. lapd says it could be several days before they could present evidence on the prime suspect. anne makovec is in san francisco, where bryan stow remains in critical condition. anne, good morning. >> reporter: this holdup in the official charges means more waiting for the family of bryan stow, who is still here at sf general this morning heavily medicated in critical condition. the prime suspect for the lapd, giovanni ramirez, who you see here side by side with the sketch of one of the men police have been looking for since the

attack on march 31. ramirez was arrested on the sunday in east hollywood and is now being held on a parole hold until investigators hand over this case to prosecutors. yesterday, ramirez was part of a police line-up where witnesses to the attack were told to pick out who did it. police won't be specific about the results of that line-up but they say they are satisfied. >> i can say that it went well and according to standards. it added to our group of evidence and we will present the results of it to the district attorney. >> reporter: ramirez maintains he is innocent and his lawyer says his daughter who we have obscured from this photo from tmz is prepared to testify that he was at home with her the night of the attack babysitting. his attorney says ramirez is also entitled to a parole hearing on june 4. that's coming up, if the d.a. hasn't filed charges. so we're told that we are going to be seeing charges filed within the next few days.

but again, police are not releasing a lot of information about this case. there are two other suspects on the loose this morning, as well. we'll talk more about them coming up in the next half hour. >> okay, anne makovec live in san francisco, thank you. it is 4:34. more than two dozen felony cases may be thrown out because of alleged misconduct by some san francisco police officers. public defender jeff adachi expected to reveal new evidence against those officers today. he has already released surveillance that appears to show police conducting illegal searches and stealing from suspects. the department has launched an investigation now. sf weekly reports that adachi's office says these latest cases involve the same officers as earlier ones. sheriff's deputies have found more than 60 guns stolen in a violent home invasion robbery. the weapons were discovered wednesday as deputies searched the apartment of ernesto gonzalez in west san jose. he was among six people

arrested earlier this month for a home invasion in gilroy. deputies searched before but didn't find anything. this time they noticed something suspicious. >> as they removed the carpet, as they removed the padding, that they noticed that there were these cutouts to indicate that it had been altered so when they removed the nails and took out the floorboards, that's when they discovered these secret compartments. >> investigators say most of the weapons belonged to the victim of the gilroy home invasion. he had been tied up and tortured into giving up the security code to his safe back in february. deputies say the apartment also contained julie and collectible items that belonged to the gilroy victim. this morning the chp is investigating the cause of a deadly crash in san mateo bridge. a pickup truck carried seven workers careened off a rural road and tumbled into a canyon below off highway 84 in the area of alpine and mindego road yesterday morning.

one worker was killed, six others injured when the truck rolled over several times down an em bankment. the men were part of a private contracting team hired to spray weeds in the russian ridge open space reserve. that area is very complete. it took crews 45 minutes to hike to the victims. bart passengers can expect delays up to 40 minutes over the next two weeks because of construction. one of two tracks will be shut down in the transbay tube which carries trains between oakland and san francisco. crews will perform several types of maintenance work and conduct repairs on some electrical cables. kiet do will have a live report coming up at 5:00. and drivers will notice changes at the bay bridge over the weekend. caltrans plans to change eastbound lanes as they come off the bridge. some eastbound lanes will be closed during overnight hours saturday and sunday for work, as well. it will cause a slight detour. it's to speed up the completion of the new span. hundreds still missing in

missouri and the rescue mission continues five days after a killer tornado roared through joplin. official have a list of 232 people still considered to be missing. some of those on the list are among the 126 people who were killed, others are believed to be alive. >> sarah mike! >> and this is new video from just after that tornado hit joplin, missouri. a cnn reporter frantically searching a devastated home for his sister and her fiance. they were both eventually found alive and well. >> sarah mike! >> god, i'm so happy to see you. now, which is the good news. we'll take that one. but yeah, we could see a couple light sprinkles in parts of the bay area today mainly to our north as a weak system is sliding in, not a whole lot of cloud cover. low clouds extending across the bay area, most of the showers towards eureka but we could see a couple of light sprinkles in parts of the north bay. temperatures outside now 40s and 50s as we head throughout this hour. we are going to see a lot of clouds around the bay area, mostly cloudy skies. by the afternoon partly cloudy. we'll see the temperatures in the 60s and a few 70s inland. a lot of 60s inside the bay and 50s at the immediate coastline. with that in mind as we look toward the holiday weekend, yes, it looks like we have cool air moving in. some partly cloudy skies into saturday. yup, the winds are going to kick up throughout the weekend so you will definitely have to stand close to the barbeque. warming up a little bit toward monday. but we are keeping it dry until the middle of next week and can you believe that, elizabeth? here we go. the unofficial beginning to summer and we're talking about more rain heading in toward

remains on time. that's a check of traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you. a u.s. delegation led by secretary of state hillary clinton is trying to repair relations with pakistan. clinton meeting with pakistani leaders at a in islamabad. relations have been tense following the raid that killed osama bin laden. today clinton delivered a message. pakistan can either commit to the terrorism fight or risk losing billions of dollars in u.s. aid. meantime, the cia will have a chance to go inside the compound where the al qaeda leader was killed. agents will dust for fingerprints and examine other evidence. u.s. and pakistani intelligence officials made a deal last week after a meeting in islamabad. the controversial patriot act will live on for four years. the act gives authorities greater power to search records and conduct roving wiretaps in pursuit of terrorists. it was to expire at midnight but last night the house and the senate passed the

charges including embezzlement and forgery. pg&e has been given the green light to charge most of its customers more for their energy use. that includes those who use the least amount of energy. under the current rate structure, pg&e says those who use a lot of power are subsidizing those who don't. now low energy customers will be put in a new price bracket to raise rates. average customers can expect to see a 10% increase in their bill. relief at the gas pumps, right in time for the memorial day weekend. >> have you noticed ? prices have fallen about a dime in the past week. the national average now 3.81 a gallon. as usual, though, prices are higher in the san francisco bay area. triple-a reporting regular going for $4.17 a gallon in san francisco. it is 4.05 in oakland and san jose, as well. it is 4:45. okay, look up at the sky. how you can spot the space shuttle endeavour flying over the bay area this morning.

last space walk of their mission. during the 6- endeavour astronauts are wrapping up the last spacewalk of their mission. during the six-hour walk, they installed a 50-foot boom on the international space station. they also snapped a commemorative photo of the station and the shuttle. this is the last time that any shuttle crew will perform spacewalks. moving forward, space station residents will do them. there is a slight chance we'll be able to see the space station and shuttle as it passes over the bay area this

morning. check it out. check the sky around 5:15 a.m. snow 25 minutes they will be coming from the southwest. lawrence say -- so in 25 minutes they will be coming from the southwest. lawrence says it may be too cloudy. it will also be visible sunday at 4:25 a.m. a california woman had to fly a plane when the pilot, her husband, passed out. the couple was flying from san bernardino to colorado springs, colorado. the 70-year-old pilot had apparently been stricken by an altitude illness. his wife took over speaking with air traffic controllers along the way. >> i'm trying to help. i'm trying to get him to put it on autopilot. i'm trying to do this. we are going down, i don't know where. >> the woman was so terrified, she said she was ready to deploy the parachute but as the plane began descending her husband regained consciousness and control and landed safely in new mexico.

all right. checking out your weather today, well, a little cloudy out there as we're expecting the clouds to continue into the morning hours. but by the afternoon, we should see some clouds breaking up. partly cloudy around the bay area. 60s and 70s. 60s and 50s at the coast. slight chance of sprinkles in the north bay. showers in eureka. we are on the trailing edge. system. but we want to get the weekend right. trying to dry things out around the bay area today. it should be mostly dry again a slight chance of sprinkles to our north. and then heading into the weekend, yeah, looks like it's going to hold on to some dry weather but it's going to be cool and breezy wherever you go, maybe breezy sunday. cool temperatures at the coast today. plan on 50s, maybe low 60s. inside the bay, sunshine and a couple of passing clouds. temperatures up into the 60s. looking out towards the

weekend, we have got some sunshine on the way, some partly cloudy skies, and it looks like the temperatures running up into the 60s. all right. let's check on traffic. elizabeth has traffic. >> thank you, lawrence. we are going to take outside. this time of the morning we usually like to show you a live traffic shot of san jose. here's a live look at 101 near the mckee exit. and everything looks good so far. smooth towards santa clara. headlights the northbound direction. south bay speeds above 40 miles per hour so we are doing fine up and down the guadalupe parkway. not much roadwork in the south bay, either. you can see a couple of lonely headlights there coming out of downtown san jose. northbound lanes of 280. bart has at least 14 trains all running on time. but we'll likely be talking about this a lot this morning. over the holiday weekend bart is planning on doing repair work, maintenance work to the

transbay tube. so basically, any trains running between oakland and san francisco they are saying to expect delays anywhere from 20 even up to 40 minutes this weekend. most of the work is being done overnight and in the morning hours. so pretty much from 8 a.m. until 2:30 in the afternoon, that's when to expect the biggest delays if you are planning on commuting between the east bay and the city. so watch out for that. that's scheduled to go all weekend long, saturday through monday. ace train one off to a great start so far this morning. muni metro, caltrain, otherwise mass transit off to a great start this morning. san mateo bridge, here's a live look. our sensors approaching the toll plaza look great. there was one 62-mile-per-hour there. across the span, so far, so good in those westbound lanes of 92. same thing coming out of the altamont pass. we are crossing our fingers for friday light traffic conditions across the bay area. and our usual slow spot antioch bridge looks great and so far, so good across the westbound lanes of highway 4 past a street. remember kcbs, our radio

partners, at 740-am and 106.9- fm. that's your traffic and weather. back to you. >> thank you. 4:52 now. a lot of talk right now about changing baseball rules after giants catcher buster posey's leg was broken in a collision a couple of games ago. it's possible posey will miss -- hard to watch -- the rest of the season with the injury. the "mercury news" reports posey's agent is calling for a review of the rule involving such plays at the plate and bribes manager bruce bochy, a former catcher, agrees. >> you just don't replace a buster posey. again, he is not only your catcher and, you know, a great staff, but he is our clean-up hitter. >> i hope he's okay. i really do. i'm not trying to end anyone's season or anything like. >> that's scott cousins, the man who ran into buster. he says he tried to get a message to posey about the play in which he scored the winning run in the 12th inning for florida. >> you saw cousins. he was one of the first people up trying to comfort him and see how he was doing. >> they do it for football now

their phone over a reader. the app also offers online coupons. paypal though suing google over the program saying the mountain view company stole trade secrets from some of the employees who used to work for paypal who now work for google and now they have wallet. right now it's only available in certain stores in new york and san francisco. that would be scary, wave your phone? you may be buying something you don't want or for other people,. facebook founder mark zuckerberg is going on a selective diet and saying will only eat meat that he kills. he says it's his personal challenge for the year. last year he decided to learn chinese. zuckerberg writing in a blog that he is essentially become a vegetarian although he has been trained to properly slaughter a variety of animals including lobsters, chickens and goats. >> i imagine his neighbors down the peninsula are happy about that. he probably has things roaming through and stuff -- >> i don't think he does it in the backyard but very interesting. very interesting.
