mystery. not only is she keeping supporters in the dark about a run for president, she also won't share the schedule of her one-nation bus tour. joel brown is in washington with more, joel, good morning to you. >> terrell, good morning. whether she's running for president or not is anyone's guess. what we've learned so far from sarah palin's return to the national political scene is that this time she's going to do it her way. >> how are you? >> reporter: sarah palin strikes up conversations with everyone. >> she's good looking. >> thank you so much. >> the former vice presidential candidate won't confirm or deny what her fans really want to know -- if she's running for president. >> i don't know, i honestly don't know. we're considering much. there's a lot to consider before you throw yourself out there. >> reporter: if she does run, palin promises an unconventional, untraditional approach. she's already taking one with her east coast bus tour of historical sites that doesn't have an advanced schedule.

she made stops in washington, baltimore, and gettysburg, pennsylvania yesterday when she was asked about republican contenders for president. >> the republican field is strong. it will change up a lot and i think there will be a more strong candidate jumping in. there is still a lot of time for folks to make up their mind and jump in and get their campaigns together. the field isn't set yet, not by a long shot. >> it will quickly become more clear. in two days, mitt romney is expected to announce hissed by for the nomination. and some political analysts consider him a front-runner. former new york city mayor rudy giuliani is also a possible top contender even though he hasn't announced his candidacy yet. tea party favorite michelle bachmann and former pennsylvania senator rick santorum are expected to join the already crowded field soon. as for palin, it's anyone's guess where she's heading next. after touring gettysburg today, the palin bus tour heads, well, somewhere.

she's filling in the itinerary on the fly and seems to be relishing the fact that she's keeping the media on its toes. terrell? >> the thing is, we'll be following her, joel. joel brown in washington, appreciate it this morning, thank you. this week, federal prosecutors could charge former democratic presidential hopeful john edwards with violating campaign finance laws. at issue -- did edwards use campaign money to cover up his affair and out of wedlock daughter? prosecutors have been investigating edwards for two years. >> they could conclude that was a misuse of campaign money for personal purposes, which would violate the campaign finance laws. >> after first denying the child is his, edwards acknowledged he is the father of hunter's baby. edwards' attorney says the campaign finance case is wrong on the facts and the law. another former banking executive is accused of sexually abusing a new york city hotel

maid. 74-year-old maw mud abdul salam omar is expected to be arraigned this morning. he was once chairman of one of egypt's major bank. police say omar called a maid to his room sunday night and touched her inappropriately. it was two weeks ago that dominique strauss kahn, the former head of the imf was arrested on similar causes. making plans for thousands of people who lost their homes. some could be moved to rental homes an hour's drive away and fema is considering trailers if enough homes aren't available. yesterday, elephants with the picadilly circus pitch in with the cleanup effort. the circus was scheduled to play in joplin but had no place to perform. and ben tracy has the story of one person who survived the tornado and all of them trying to help her put her life back together again. >> all my memories are here. r mary is 83, no children, no husband. >> he died in '82. >> reporter: and now not much else. >> my stuff, just my stuff.

have done. >> you've had lots of people loving on you. >> reporter: ben tracy, cbs news, joplin, missouri. meanwhile overseas, lib yap rebels rejected the latest truce plan by muammar gadhafi met with president zumi yesterday. zumi presented gadhafi with a proposal to end the fighting and end nato air strikes but it didn't include plans for gadhafi to step down. that's the key demand of the rebels. the campaign continued overnight and in rome yesterday, eight top libyan army officers defected. hamid karzai said nato air strikes on afghan homes will no longer be allowed. speaking in kabul, he said his patience with the tactic has run out. nato air strikes on two homes saturday mistakenly killed at least nine civilians. karzai warned the nato troops risk become being seen as an occupying force if the strike on

homes don't end. on the ground in afghanistan, the so-called fighting season heats up and the american troops remain in the thick of it. american soldiers in the paktika province are on the front line. >> it's the end of the day of the combat outpost near the pakistani border. but for the soldiers in fox company, this is just an ordinary day in an extraordinary place. we're two miles away from the pakistani border. these soldiers are preparing for the influx of insurgents that come every spring because this time of the year is known as the fighting season. ♪ there were ceremonies across afghanistan to mark memorial day. >> got to move. >> but most of these guys are here to fight and casualties are coming in hard and fast. for the sixth day in a row, the base came under an attack, one shell or rocket landed just outside of the base, the other landed inside the base.

chickens. it brought some relief from cuba's worst drought in a half century. on the "cbs moneywatch" on this tuesday, some nuns rob a bank. a boost to the asian markets today. tokyo's nikkei gained almost 2% as did hong kong's hang seng. wall street gets more on the housing market and consumer confidence. stocks are trying to get back on track after a month of losses. last week, the dow lost half percent while the nasdaq kicked down a fraction. big wall street banks are betting gas prices are going higher. investment firms goldman sachs and jp morgan chase are predicting a dramatic increase in the cost of oil from $100 a barrel to $130. if that happens, gas at $3.79 a gallon nationwide will jump back above $4. most analysts think the price

will drop until early july and then resume its rise. at the movies, "the hangover" was just the cure for hollywood's headache after months of slow sales industrywide, "the hangover ii" raked in $106 million in the long holiday weekend. that helped theaters sell $280 million worth of tickets. behind "the hangover," another sequel, "kung fu panda 2" with the latest "pirates of the caribbean" film in third place. a bank heist from the movies. over the weekend, two bandits dressed as nuns forced employees to empty the vault at gun point. they escaped with the money. the fbi is not saying how much and if the disguise looks familiar to you, it appears they took their inspiration from the 2010 ben affleck movie "the town." ben affleck's character got away

experts of 14 countries are trying to make sense of conflicting studies on the risks of cell phones. their conclusions might be used in safety regulations. a health warning for parents about energy drinks and sports drinks. one contains too much caffeine and the other could lead to childhood obesity. kenneth gibson reports. twins emma and conner are very active 10-year-olds so their mom lets them have a sports drink after a tough practice or game. >> my daughter trains for gymnastics, she's there for 3 1/2 hours every evening. i let her have it after that and my son after games. >> sports and energy drinks are increasingly popular with children and teens. but a new report from the american academy of pediatrics says most kids who play recreational sports don't need sports drinks. >> sports drinks contain carbohydrates which can give you energy but they give you calories and can contribute to obesity, being overweight. >> the academy says energy drinks are even more harmful and have no place in a kid's diet.
