cops, it charged and they were forced to shoot. the bear was killed. hundreds of volunteers are searching in and around bloomington, indiana for a missing indiana university student. 20-year-old lauren spierer hasn't been seen since she left a party alone early last saturday morning. the community and the university's head basketball coach joined the search. >> anytime you can do something to help people, that's what we're supposed to do. but most importantly, i just agonize over the fact that there's a mother and a father out there that have no idea where their daughter is. >> reporter: her parents say she has a heart condition and needs her medication. finally this morning, medical researchers are reporting dramatic success in treating cancer by tailoring drugs to the genetic makeup of individual patients. we have more on that. >> reporter: in 2007, bill was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. seven different chemotherapies failed.

he was told nothing more could be done. >> i basically was looking at going to go home and make arrangements is what the doctors basically told me to do. >> reporter: but he heard about something new, a experimental drug that targets a certain kind of lung cancer based on a genetic makeup. he was told he feels a candidate. a rare form of cell cancer has a genetic mutation called alk. the new drug, crizotinib targets this gene causing tumors to shrink. >> they tell me they feel so much better when they start the drug and so much better than they did on chemotherapy. >> preliminary results were presented over the weekend, more than half the patients were alive after two years. that's more than four times the usual survive rate. >> get back on the bike, swimming, walking, hiking. i'm hoping to do one of my major bike rides here in september. >> this drug only works for the
