back to you guys. >> thank you. 4:31. two san francisco firefighters killed in the line of duty will be laid to rest this afternoon. >> thousands of firefighters in fact from around the country are expected to pay their final respects today. anne makovec is in san francisco where the funeral begins at 12:30. good morning. reporter: good morning. it is expected to be a three- hour mass here at st. mary's cathedral on geary and golf in san francisco. they are expecting about 6,000 people to come here to the church today for this service including firefighters from around the country. a lot of those people came to a vigil last night for the two firefighters. the caskets of lieutenant vincent perez arrived here at the cathedral as a salute to the fire department and their

chief. hundreds of firefighters and friends came to the supporters to remember two heroes. >> they were heroes. they were courageous and brave. a lot of good stories throughout about their playfulness as young men in the fire department. they respected everybody in their day to day operations. we are ready to display our appreciation in the highest tribute for them. >> reporter: valerio and perez died last week after battling a house fire in diamond heights a week ago yesterday. it was a flashover when everything in a room suddenly ignites. perez was 48 years old. valerio was 53. they will be buried at holy cross cemetery in colma and there's going to be firefighters from surrounding cities staffing our local fire stations here in san francisco.

so that as many firefighters as possible can attend the services here today. frank and sydnie. >> all right, anne, thanks very much, anne makovec in san francisco. 50 fire trucks will be part of the long escort to colma cemetery during the funeral procession from st. mary's at goff and geary to market street through the mission and onto 280 south. all southbound lanes are 280 will be shut down from 4 to 6 p.m. street closures around the area will be difficult this afternoon. let's go back to elizabeth and talk about those closures. around st. mary's cathedral in san francisco, funeral starts around 12:30 so if you want to go, try using mass transit. the 38 geary bus would be a good

option. the end of the route is holy cross cemetery in colmar starting on city streets in san francisco. from 4 to 6:00 there will be rolling closures from city streets in san francisco heading southbound 280 so they are going to be closing off that freeway from 101 towards serramonte boulevard if you are heading towards daly city so expect delays especially as you approach serramonte boulevard. those street closures in san francisco they are heading gough to market, valencia to 15, dolores to san jose avenue. so yeah, rolling street closures much of the afternoon. we'll break it down more for you coming up in a bit. in the meantime, back to you guys. >> thank you. many of the firefighters in san francisco for today's funeral will be riding bart trains. bart says the firefighters will ride in fellowship in the last car of each train. they will ride to and from the

civic center u.n. plaza station about a mile from the memorial services. we are going to have life coverage of the funeral beginning at 12 noon. we'll stream it live on our website, cbssf.com. some developing news this morning. three men are in the hospital following a triple stabbing at a mcdonald's in san jose. police found the victims last night just before 10:00 on the corner of east san carlos and south third street just a short block from san jose. so far police are not saying what may have motivated the violent incident. we'll have a live report coming up at 5:00. the family of that missing nursing student michelle le will hold another vigil this time in san diego where le grew up. relatives and friends gathered for a vigil last night at hayward. le disappeared on may 27 from the kaiser permanente hayward medical center. police call it a homicide investigation but le's loved ones say they are not going to

stop looking. >> michelle is so important to me that i just -- i just -- i don't want to believe that anyone is capable of taking her away from me. >> we know she is out there waiting for us. we are going to bring her home. >> police call le's former friend giselle esteban a person of interest. esteban's ex-boyfriend took out a restraining order against her just two weeks ago because he said she threatened him. he is also friends with michelle le. another ex-boyfriend of esteban says esteban got violent when she didn't get her way. >> she was already asleep when i got home and got in bed and woke up and she was, you know, on top of me trying to strangle me. >> esteban openly admitted to hating le but said she did not kill her. 4:37. nearly four years after "oakland post" editor chauncey bailey was shot to death, his family says justice has been served.

yusef bey iv and antoine mackey were found guilty of murder yesterday. bey and mackey were leaders of "your black muslim bakery" in 2007. bey ordered the killing of bailey, mackey helped bakery employee devaughndre broussard hunt down bailey and kill him. prosecutors say the bakery was once believed to be the bastion of community empowerment in oakland. >> somewhere down the line, that message turned to just pure hungry power, pure violence, pure hatred, racism, and they're nothing but a group of thugs. >> whatever the decision is, i don't know yet. and i believe in my son's innocence. i do. >> bey and mackey both face life in prison without the possibility of parole. pg&e raked over the coles. an independent report looking into the deadly san bruno explosion finds the utility

incompetent. they find pg&e workers to be undertrained and understaffed. the problem is so serious, it was off duty workers who rushed back to san bruno to shut off pipelines. more broadly, the report criticizes the utility for how it does business. >> again, we strongly agree with the independent review's panel assessment. >> is that an admission of fault? >> it's clear and we acknowledge several times since this tragedy that our operations, our culture, our recordkeeping practices aren't where they need to be. >> but the independent panel also takes aim at the puc. it says the commission lacked the resources to monitor pg&e's pipeline safety work and failed to pay enough attention to concerns about pg&e's performance. it is 4:39 now. it's friday. and weather-wise, we are looking really good. let's kick it over to erika and find out what's going on. >> good morning, sydnie, good
