roadwork near the 880/92 interchange. that's your traffic. back to you. >> thank you. we have a developing story. hayward police are searching for two armed robbers who shot a man near a bart station. the holdup happened late last night on tennyson road. police say two young men approached the man and a woman who just got off a bart train, demanded their purse and wallets. the man turned over the wallet but one of the robbers shot him anyway. there is no word on the condition of the two victims of the anne makovec is on the way to hayward. we'll have a live report from her in just a few minutes. alameda county deputies are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a man at a san leandro apartment building at 7:30 last night inside the ashland village apartment complex at 1300 east 14th street. police say some people were detained but no suspects are in custody at this time. the motive for the shooting is it not known. a 12-year-old boy from oakland is under arrest this morning accused of beating nearly a dozen chickens to

death. a group of teens who care for the chickens at an alameda community garden made this gruesome discovery on sunday. police say the 12-year-old who was staying with a friend in alameda broke into the coop. >> the juvenile was witnessed hurting the chickens with sticks and shovels. >> the child obviously has issues. i would like to see that arrest. >> the teens who care for the chickens sell their eggs in a program which teaches them about nutrition and business skills. some new chicks were donated to the garden last week, but it will be a while before they are old enough to produce eggs and replace those that were killed. a teacher from a private school in the south bay is out on bail after being arrested on child sex abuse charges. san jose police revealed yesterday that 28-year-old colette phelps was arrested on june 1 accused of committing lewd acts with a student at

stratford school. police didn't say which of the three stratford schools in san jose was involved or whether the alleged victim was male or female. 4:34. as the murder rate climbs in san jose the city has decided to lay off police officers for the first time in its history. the city council approved mayor reed's budget plan yesterday. that was just hours after the police officers association agreed to take a 10% pay cut. an arbitrator will decide whether the cuts extend beyond one year. it will save 156 jobs but more than 100 will still be laid off. in all, about 500 city jobs will be cut including some already vacant, some city services will be outsourced, and hours will be reduced at community centers and some of the branch libraries. but the good news is 49 firefighter jobs that were cut during last year will be restored because of a two-year federal grant. kiet do will have live report

coming up at 5:00. well, today is budget deadline day at the state capital and lawmakers have new incentive to get a spending plan passed. a new law says legislators won't get paid if they don't get a balanced budget passed by today. democratic leaders plan votes today on a new proposal they introduced yesterday. the plan would increase vehicle registration fees by $12 and make more cuts in education funding. the san bruno pipeline explosion is now the focus of a criminal investigation. eight people were killed and 38 homes were destroyed after a pg&e natural gas pipeline blew up last september. pg&e filed paperwork with the securities and exchange commission saying it was notified about the probe by federal, state and local law enforcement. analysts from bernstein research says pg&e could end up paying up to $2.4 billion which they can't pass on to customers.

lawrence was the man of the year yesterday, and by golly doing it again today. mostly clear skies. if we see any fog right now it's right down in toward the half moon bay area but not much, very patchy . we are going to clear out the skies nicely again. temperatures are mild right now already into the 60s in some spots into concord and livermore, 60 now in san jose. and clear skies and 59 degrees into oakland. this afternoon, cranking up those temperatures again, 90s into fairfield, concord and livermore 82 fremont, about 83 degrees in san jose. closer to the coast, 60s at pacifica and 71 in san francisco. so enjoy it while we have it. things changing quite drastically as we head in toward thursday. we'll pick up more of a sea breeze dropping temperatures 10-

[ laughter ] >> it's very early. coming out of downtown san jose, traffic moves great. a couple of headlights northbound 280 approaching the 880 interchange. looks great all the way out towards cupertino. and the bay bridge usually our slowest spot at least a little later on in the morning commute looks great so far. no metering lights and really a nice easy ride across the upper deck. i'm not seeing any roadwork on westbound 80 heading into san francisco. all the approaches nice and quiet, as well. 18 minutes, that means everything is moving at top speeds from the carquinez bridge to the maze. if you are coming down the eastshore freeway, no delay at all through berkeley. marin county, roadwork from

the little league level on the peninsula. bonds' personal trainer greg anderson is reportedly no longer welcome to be the third base coach for boys in burlingame. that includes his own son's teams, this after the new york times ran an article that quoted society parents who said they were angry that the man who pleaded guilty to distributing steroids and money laundering was coaching kids. >> was greg anderson in fact banned? >> no. you have to understand that greg is not an official coach for byba. >> he's a great coach. the boys love him. i love to watch when the boys react to what he says. >> the league says anderson is a volunteer who is only allowed to coach when a registered coach is also on the field. a victory for opponents of proposition 8. a federal judge upheld a gay judge's ruling to strike down california's same- sex marriage ban. chief u.s. district judge james ware says former chief judge

vaughn walker did not have to disclose whether he wanted to marry his partner when he made the decision on prop 8. lawyers argued that walker should have recused himself because he stood to personally benefit from that verdict. defense contractor lockheed martin says it has to cut 1200 workers including some at its facility in sunnyvale. the cuts will affect about 8% of employees in its space systems equipment division. the cutbacks come as the obama administration is under pressure to reduce u.s. defense spending. it's not clear how many of the layoffs will be in the silicon valley. well, this morning, an east bay company hits the new york stock exchange in one of the hottest ipos of the year. >> shares of pandora media will be up for trading for the first time. the oakland-based internet radio service sold its initial public offering yesterday at $16 a share. that's twice what it expected two weeks ago. pandora is now valued at $2 .6

the bay area today. we are going to see some hot temperatures out there, already very mild if you're headed out the door this morning. mostly clear skies around the bay area. ament a couple of patches of fog near -- a hint of a couple of patches of fog near half moon bay. this afternoon, sunny, and temperatures 80s and 90s inland. plenty of 70s around the bay. at the coast, should be mostly sunny with some mild temperatures there at the beaches and just a gentle sea breeze toward the afternoon. clear skies right now and that's the way it's going to stay the better part of day except tomorrow we'll see some changes as we'll see much cooler temperatures on the way but the ridge holding on, going to stay hot again many spots inland and then the ridge will weaken. we'll see more of a sea breeze tomorrow and that will drop those temperatures down significantly. so here, one more hot one today, 90 degrees in morgan hill, about 84 in santa clara, 82 in fremont, and about 81 degrees in palo alto. if you plan on traveling out

toward the coastline, about 66 in pacifica. and 65 degrees in half moon bay. is hot temperatures showing -- 65 degrees in half moon bay. hot temperatures showing up in walnut creek, 93 in brentwood. as you get inside the bay, a breeze in the afternoon will keep things cooler but not by much. 77 degrees in oakland and about 78 degrees in san leandro. our friends in the north bay going to enjoy plenty of sunshine today, too in some of the warmest temperatures of the season so far. 92 fairfield. 74 and beautiful in sausalito. so with that in mind, we are looking at some fantastic weather ahead here for today. temperatures going to be hot inland. a lot of folks not used to the heat but we have one more day of it and then things cool down. more of a sea breeze will bring more low clouds and fog as early as tomorrow. and the cooling trend will

continue into friday. maybe the first part of the weekend we'll keep those temperatures down a bit. but after that high pressure builds in. temperatures again flirting with the 80s and the 90s as we head toward the beginning of this next week. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you. we are not doing too bad. it's not even 5:00 so that's partly why but a lot of roadwork is picked up ahead of schedule. traffic still very light across the span of the golden gate bridge. really no delay at all. in the next few minutes they should be doing the lane change. as game later on tonight but for right now these are live traffic sensors, 70, 67 miles per hour is what speeds are as you pass the coliseum. southbound traffic looks just as good real his quick ride all the way down into hayward. like said a lot of our overnight roadwork picked up ahead of schedule. this was supposed to wrap up around 5:30 but we checked with caltrans and all lanes are already open. eastbound 4 there was a full

freeway closure, this is ongoing roadwork, approaching loveridge road. so now eastbound traffic gets by just fine. westbound 4 where it usually slows around a street not slowing yet. still looks really good towards pittsburg and on into concord. you can see your live traffic sensors 68 miles per hour. everything is great across the benicia bridge. roadwork 880 near 92, some cones may still be out there. should wrap up here shortly, by about 5:00. but if you are crossing the san mateo bridge, everything is light in either direction right now across the span. eastbound traffic looks great coming off the high-rise and heading towards hayward. silicon valley, here's live look at the westbound 237 traffic towards san jose. and mass transit users, bart still systemwide on time off to a great start. ace train number one no delay

applied psychology shows that women who are 25 pounds above their average weight make $16,000 less a year but for the men, it's other way around. those who weigh 25 pounds above the average weight make $8,000 more. >> well, i think they probably spend more time at work and less time working out. so that would help their career a bit. >> everybody is feeling pressure to change their body and feeling intense reward or punishment based on that. >> that was elizabeth cook doing situps there.
