"this broadcast realtime captioned by becky lyon." good evening, i'm ann notarangelo. started as a side show on memor i don't -- side show on memorial day. anne makovec on the grassroots efforts for police to solve the case. >> we would like to catch a murder. >> reporter: if the police can't solve a double murder -- >> stop the violence everywhere. >> reporter: dozens of volunteers returned to the site of a deadly shooting in oakland. >> to declare a new beginning in the city of oakland. it is enough. >> reporter: the crime scene near 88th and international boulevard all captured on this video by a film crew who happen to be there. you can hear the first shot. several other shots follow. latoya kenny, a 28-year-old

mother from union city and eric bush, a 29-year-old from san leandro were killed in the streets. >> to have to find your child laying there on the street breathless, and i couldn't do nothing about it. >> reporter: the sheer number of people at the gathering made it difficult. this man walking past with a gun in hand. >> the person that killed her may not even know. if you were out here shooting, it could have been your bullet that took had mother life. >> reporter: they are focused on the female rather than the man shot that night because the organizers say his family didn't respond when they asked if they could help. those here though say they are representing all victims of crime. >> instead of the police department and the fire department just coming and washing the blood away we want to come become and let everyone know that someone actually died on this block. >> reporter: this is latoya's 11-year-old daughter. >> it is pretty sad.

sad. >> what do you miss most about your mom? >> hearing her sing. >> reporter: in oakland, anne makovec, cbs5. checking other bay area headlines. two separate shootings in oakland led police to investigate. a man was shot in the stomach and taken to the hospital. a few hours later another man was shot while sitting in his car. he later died at the hospital. i apologize that picture didn't show the right story. we will be right back. we will get these computer problems fixed in just a moment. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

reroute passengers 24 hours after the trouble began. >> that's right. the united airlines computer crash canceled or delayed 130 flights around the world stranding thousands of people. even at this hour some of those folks are still trying to get on airplanes. united airlines computer problems apparently have been fixed but the nightmare for stranded passengers lingers on. robin and her three kids and a young friend were at wits end. >> you look at the sign and it said flight canceled so we stand in line forever. they said we could fly from phoenix to boise. so we will to come all the way down to terminal 1. and when we got to terminal 1 they said the flight from phoenix to boise is completely overbooked so they are sending us all the way back. >> reporter: pat hogan said the airline hasn't been much help. >> computers stopped and they threw their hands up. >> reporter: united said they are working with passengers to rebook or provide refunds.

rebooking has been tough being the summer. missing flights halfway around the world. >> we went to frankfurt then san francisco. >> you are supposed to be in chicago? >> yes. >> how bad has it been? >> it hasn't been bad at all. i got lucky. >> reporter: lucky because she got rerooted to san francisco. bumped up to first class. it was almost as good for josh simmons. >> i got here a couple hours early. but still missed my flight. i'm just waiting in line after line hoping to catch another one. so... >> got to keep a stiff upper lip on this one? >> yes. it is for work so i'm getting paid. paid by the hour right now. >> reporter: not so bad much . the backlog of passengers is easing up. we are still seeing folks run up and down this sidewalk trying to get on flights. ann? >> what a mess.

don knapp at s.f.o. thank you much. well, this guy was kicked off his flight for his revealing attire. tonight we are seeing video of the exchange between a san francisco college student and u.s. airways pilot. >> hold on, hold on. >> no, no, listen to me. listen to me. >> i didn't do nothing to nobody. >> a passenger shot this video last wednesday, gave it to the san francisco chronicle. the pilot was demanding deshawn marmon get off the plane because his sagging pants showed his underwear. he eventually got off but allegedly resisted officers outside the plane and was arrested. marmon issued a statement and said he was embarrassed and not reflective of himself or his university. police are searching tonight for the driver in a fatal hit and run. a man was hit about 10:30 a.m. this morning. witnesses say the driver fled in a minivan, possibly a chevy.

no arrests yet. and a driver being chased by east palo alto police flipped her suv and killed her passenger in the process. officers say the 25-year-old woman sped away when they tried to pull her over. she crashed near east bayshore. the passenger died and the driver suffered serious injuries. she will face a number of charges including homicide. 1400 block of east santa clara street in san jose there was a fatality. a sheriff sheriff deputy was chasing the man and he crashed into a tanker truck and died at the scene. it started from a complaint from neighbors of a man doing donuts in a quiet neighborhood. a second straight day looking for any sign of michele lei and no luck.

it has been three weeks since the 26-year-old nursing student disappeared. volunteers plan to search the area again tomorrow. it didn't take mountainview police to find a suspect in the bank robbery. he was just a few blocks away reading the paper across the street at the starbucks. the 53-year-old man matched the description of the man who held up the california bank of trust. an officer called him and called for backup. police say he was still holding the stolen cash when he was arrested. it has been years in the making but today the ribbon was cut on san jose's vietnam town. the outdoor mall on story road is the largest in the world for the vietnamese population. the developer wanted it to be east san jose. one city leader saying the development was long overdue.

bryan stows remaining hospitalized two and a half months after being beaten outside dodgers stadium. the kids are pulling for their dad's recovery and they call him their hero. >> he is really special and he is not like any other dad. it kind of feels weird not being able to stay by his side. >> i spent a lot of time with him so it is completely different now seeing him every thursday. so it is really tough. >> wow. stow is in intensive care at san francisco general. the beating suspect giovanni ramirez has a parole hearing on monday. he could be released if the d.a.'s office doesn't charge him for the attack on stow. a case of summer in the forecast ahead. plus, the taste of north beach on full display this weekend. the fun and festivities at the north beach festival. next. ,,,,,,,,,,,,

[ banker ] but someone else bought it before they could get their offer together. we really missed a great opportunity -- dodged a bullet there. end. attendees were encouraged to tweet messages with a hash tag marin for peace. a cause near and dear to the heart of cbs5 getting a little attention today. the first annual grad walk raised money for our students rising above program. it provides college scholarships for low income students. they get financial assistance from applications to graduation. but they also get much more. >> i think besides the financial help that they give and just the opportunity that they give for us to go to college they give us mentors and the social aspects we need to build relationships and friendships that last a lifetime, building support. >> the first in their families to go to college. 90% of them have graduated. this may not be the brightest bulb in the chandelier but certainly the most lasting. this bulb has been shining

almost continuously since 1901. that's right, 110 years. the globe hangs inside a city fire station. >> nobody knows why it keeps burning. we have had scientists from all over the country look at this light bulb. >> the 60-watt bulb was originally used as a night light that's why it is dimmed to just 4-watts and apparently it gave off just enough illumination for firefighters to light their kerosene lanterns as they prepared to respond to emergency calls. little italy. san francisco's north beach festival kicked off today. booths are set up around columbus and grant area. event offers arts, live bands and food and what they call a beverage garden. this is the 57th annual north beach festival and continues tomorrow. go ahead, bring dad down

because erika says it will be a beautiful day. >> it will be beautiful tomorrow. absolutely splendid. we had a wonderful day. today we have got a few clouds making their way over the region but for the most part nice day on tap. tomorrow will look better. here is a look outside. high pressure system for the most part has made its way towards the east. energy headed with it and as you take a look at your satellite image we can see the high pressure starting to build nicely. this will bring the warmer temperatures by tomorrow and lingering for much of next week. temperatures this evening ranging from low 50s to low 60s. mostly clear an low clouds working their way over the bay area. a mix of sun and clouds and patchy fog for tomorrow morning. as we take a look at our lows for tonight. santa rosa 47. fairfield 54. concord a bit warmer there. 56 for you. and as we take a look at these highs, definitely trending towards the summer season. we can see 76 for mountainview.

78 in fremont. 82 for san jose. nice job here as far as temperatures here. getting a little bit warmer for concord. seeing 90s tomorrow as we make our way into the north bay. santa rosa 85. a lovely day on tap. pollen report. high for trees and grasses. don't forget that u.v. index also very high as well. here is a look at our extended forecast. temperatures are going to steadyly increase. low 60s to low 90s for sunday. high 60s to low 90s for monday. and there we are going to see a nice warm up there. 70s to 90s on tuesday. trending through wednesday. thursday a bit of a cool down there. high 50s to 80s but overall just a wonderful week ahead. that's weather. here is gary with sports. >> thank you. bruins fans got a little extra treat today during the parade when a player grabbed the mic and started to rap. this you've got to see.

tournemant.. this year at congressional in maryland they made the coure even tougher, the u.s. open is supposed to be the toughest tournament. this year in mare maryland they made the course even tougher. a record 26 sub par rounds fired today and this guy had one of them. rory mcilroy is making if look

like a walk in the park. so much for a collapse. he sinks his first birdie of the round on the fifth hole to get to 12 under par. looking good right there. lee westwood made a charge on the back nine. look at this putt wrapping and winding and going in. three straight birdies and eagle. 65. lowest round ever in a major to get to five under. phil mickelson is not doing too well. a 77 and 20 shots behind rory mcilroy. the 22-year-old bogeyed the tenth but got the strike back with a birdie on 11. a fist pump there. he will take it. yesterday he became the first golfer to get a 13 under at the u.s. open. today he became the first to reach 14 under after the beautiful approach right there on 14 set up another birdie. he is 14 under through 54 holes. he now leads by eight strokes. you see it there. he has been so good. 68 was his worst round of the tournament. yang remains in second and will be paired with rory mcilroy again tomorrow.

next year's u.s. open will be right here at the olympic club in our backyard. another course celebrating its 60th anniversary. kim coyle saying it is looking better italian ever. >> about four to six more weeks and i'll have this green playable. it looks terrible now but it will come back. >> reporter: and the greens did as well as the golfers. >> pretty close. >> reporter: to what they were before vandals turned three holes into their own private infineon raceway. leaving behind severe damage to three greens, one had to be completely rebuilt. officials were careful not to change the character and slope of the original design. >> it was well over 100 to $200,000 by the time everything was considered, the loss of revenue, both the golf revenue and ancillary revenue from lost beer sales, beverage sales, food sales. all that kind of thing.
