fire in sunnyvale. >> these are photos of the morning's fire posted on twitter by relatives of some of those who live there. there is an unconfirm report of someone who was sent to the hospital. it broke out near kelly ante drive. the building has 18 units. we have a crew on the way to sunnyvale. we'll bring you a live report in the next half hour. firefighters are searching for the cause of a brushfire which burned dangerously close to home in deniseio. the fire broke out near interstate 780 on the fifth street on ramp yesterday afternoon and quickly spread to about 2 acres and a half dozen homes. crews managed to knock it down quickly. no one hurt in that. the man accused of beating brian stow could get out of jail today. >> he was scheduled for a 35 role hearing this morning. we're in san francisco with a look at the issue before the

parole board this morning. >> reporter: good morning, frank. brian stow, the man who was severely beaten in march at giants stadium remains in a coma today here at ss general. while he remains in the hospital, the lead suspect giovanni ramirez could go free. the 31-year-old ramirez has not been formally charged in the attack, but is a convicted felon and has been kept in jail for parole violations. in 2005 ramirez was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon. when police arrested ramirez in connection with the stow beating, they found a gun in his house, which is a 35 role violation. the los angeles police department has gone through thousands of surveillance photos, run dna tests, even reviewed cell-phone records, but ramirez's defense says the lapd does not have sufficient evidence in the case. the defense says they have testimony to show he wasn't at

on his forearm. 4:35. nato confirms one of its air strikes in libya went astray and may have killed civilians. libya's government said nine civilians died when the plane struck an area in tripoli. the incident is giving gaddafi's regime a new rallying point in their civil war. meanwhile in washington, the debate continues on whether the u.s. should continue to help fund the effort. house speaker john boehner said haw makers this week may consider a measure to cut off funding, but not all of his fellow republicans agree. >> if we do not continue this effort in libya, if gaddafi remains in power, it could have profound consequences. >> the obama administration says the military operation in libya is not a war and, therefore, does not need the approval of congress. on to northwest pakistan today, at least 7 people are

dead after u.s. drones reportedly carried out an attack on militants. that's according to anonymous pakistani officials, but not confirmed by the u.s. earlier today, dozens of militants attacked the nearby homes of two prominent antitaliban tribal elders, killing four people. late word from southwestern pakistan. a car bomb there has killed two people near a woman's college. the death penalty cost taxpayers $4 billion since it was reinstated back in 1978. though very few executions have actually been carried out, that's according to a new study by a federal circuit judge and a loyola law school professor. in all that time only 13 inmates have been put to death while more than 700 wait on death row. the author says the additional cost of death penalty trials

real summer-time weather coming our way. high pressure is building in, more of a northerly component to the wind, keeping the skies nice and clear and mild around the bay area to start out. get this, it is 67 degrees in fairfield, 66 degrees in loyola, redwood city and san raff female. starting out with temperatures like this, going up in a hurry. by the afternoon, 96, expect the high in fairfield, livermore, 91 in san jose and 80 degrees in san francisco. tell you what? this is a beach day. temperatures flirting with a hundred degrees outside. slightly cooler by tuesday, but not by much. fog returning to the coastline and headed to the bay thursday and friday. the next few days, you like the heat, you like the summer sunshine, you'll love these days. i could work on my tan before i go to the beach.

you ever heard of that before? you don't want to be too pale to go to the beach. a catch-22. to the south bay, everything is pretty quiet most of your freeways here. the parkway nice and light. a look at the 285 traffic. headed out of san jose, so far so good along the peninsula. if you're continuing up 285, looks good as well. to the bay bridge, the bay, approaches fine, problem-free. there is problem on the roadwork right now center anchorage, up toward treasure island. shouldera up by 6:00. right now, several lanes blocked across the stretch. great highway, southbound lanes of the great highway closed for about a week beginning today. they have sand removal to do. they've done this in the past. so again, watch out for blocked traffic there on the southbound lanes. just the southbound lanes only of the great highway beginning today. other bridges, the san mateo bridge, traffic looks great.

vegas? the new rules to change the way you live. 4:43, 4:44. police building a case after arresting a suspect in two recent pipe bombs. 29-year-old daniel garcia being held without bail in the county jail. took police and swat teams eight hours to lure him from his home on saturday. he was wanted for a pipe bombing three weeks ago and for questioning about another explosive inside a newspaper in vacaville last march. neighbors say they weren't surprised by the rest. they described him as strange. >> christmas eve, like, at 3 a.m., he ran outside in the street and stopped here and was screaming military chance. >> police searched the house, but aren't saying what they found inside. and with the city's murder rate at an unusually high pace,

wildfire into populated areas in southern arizona, and it is forcing new evacuations this morning. about 3,000 people had to heave their homes yesterday as the blaze picked up speed. wind were gusting up to 60 miles per hour. some houses were destroyed, but officials don't have an exact number. that fast-moving flames that you can see have forced firefighters to retreat and set up new locations. gabrielle giffords back in texas to continue her rehabilitation. she spent the weekend with her family in tucson, arizona, finally. her first trip home since she was shot in the head. at a political event in january she was released from a houston hospital on wednesday and is set to begin out patient therapy today. weather looking great around the bay area today. you like the warm sunshine? that summer heat? we'll clear things out nice. mostly clear skies, temperatures in the mid 60s in

degrees in walnut creek. if traveling in the high country, be careful. you'll see some heavy snowfall or snowmelt as we head in toward the next couple of days. that means the rivers will be running very large. the next couple of days, hot through the first day of summer, slight cooling possible as we head toward wednesday. not going to mean much. then low fog returns to the bay area toward thursday and friday. the temperatures start to drop off as we head toward at least the weekend. that's a look at weather. let's go to traffic now. >> thank you, lawrence. traffic is moving by well right now. no big issues out there, no major hot spots. a live look at conditions across the golden gate bridge. light in both directions, and i'm not seeing much roadwork. a pretty good trip all the way into san francisco. let's check out the live traffic sensors. if coming off the bridge, the bridge looks great. no delays, no brake lights from antioch all the way out through pittsburgh and on through concord yet. we haven't seen changing color on our sensors. same thing up and down anymore its.

pool. that's similar to the risk associated with inground pools. the study calls for active supervision and also the use of protective covers, the removal of ladders and the emptying of pools when they are not being used. it turns out 8% of all u.s. kids suffer from food allergies, a number much higher than anticipated. new research shows that the most common allergies are from peanuts, from milk and from shell fish, and about 40% of kids have severe reactions. 4:54 now. there is now a ban to push -- a cirque situation ban. some california lawmakers want san francisco's proposal from ever taking effect. a state lawmaker from l.a. and a congressman from sherman oaks say they will introduce legislation in san francisco and washington to ban circumcision. they say it's a decision best made by a baby's family.
