police went to arizona to talk with the woman but hayward police haven't confirmed that. le's family plans another search for the missing woman this weekend. today marks the last day for dozens of laid-off city workers in san jose. they include about 70 police officers who will be out of work and a few dozen others who are retiring or transferring to other departments all part of a budget plan approved by mayor reed and the city council to reduce the city's $115 million budget deficit. in all, 264 city workers are losing their jobs. the oakland city council is still struggling to come up with a budget plan just hours before the new fiscal year begins tomorrow. council will meet in special session tomorrow afternoon following a four-hour hearing tuesday. then, councilmembers discussed proposals but couldn't settle on a budget. they are trying to close a $58 million budget deficit. an internet giant says it won't go along with part of

california's new budget plan. late last night, amazon said it will not charge california customers sales tax which is a requirement by the new state budget. as kiet do reports, that's not the only way the company is flexing its muscle. reporter: for mindy roberts one of the leading mommy bloggers, the bombshell email from amazon came today. >> confused. >> reporter: mindy is for now a so-called amazon affiliate based on scotts valley. buy products through her site, amazon ships them to her and she gets the sale. >> we are dumping you. somebody wants you to conform to some new rule. we like you, we don't want to dump you so we have to. sorry. >> reporter: for amazon based in seattle, eliminating the nexus of california affiliates is part of a strategy they have done in other states that also have online taxes. by getting rid of affiliates, there is no physical presence

counterproductive and will not cause our retail business to collect sales tax for the state. survivors of the san bruno pipeline explosion are upset that safe and sane fireworks are still legal in their city. san bruno is one of a dozen bay area cities that allows the sale and use of these fireworks. a lot of charities and sports programs depend on that money raised from fireworks sales. last september, that blast killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes. and now residents in the neighborhood are wary of anything that may spark a fire. >> i'm hoping that people will respect the situation and not come to our neighborhood and even though those people that live here, i hope that they will not set off fireworks legal or illegal. >> so city leaders have promised neighbors that there will be extra fire and police patrols over the holiday weekend in order to reduce the fire danger. crews have cut down overgrown grass and weeds where homes once stood. 4:35 now. those yellow stickers that let hybrids use carpool lanes in

california are about to become obsolete. today is the final day for 85,000 hybrid drivers to get a free pass in the fast lane. they have had that right for six years to reward drivers. all-electric cal and compressed natural gas vehicles will get to use their stickers until 2014. getting around the bay area is more expensive starting tomorrow. bridge tolls for big rigs and cars towing trailers go up. also increasing tomorrow, fares and parking fees for caltrain. fares for golden gate transit buses and ferries as well and fares on san francisco's muni system are going up. so get ready to pay the piper. >> that's right. we only had one day of rain. but i noticed yesterday, so many people out and about enjoying the sun. >> i bet you got a little more today we still had a little bit of clouds situation going on. it's supposed to be gorgeous. >> it's going to be absolutely beautiful and going to get a lot warmer. in the meantime, we can see that we have a marine layer working its way over the forecast region.
