bryan stow are in court. >> christie has more. >> reporter: louie sanchez and marvin norwood are set to appear in l.a. superior court later this morning. both of these men have a history of domestic violence and are now being charged in the beating of bryan stow on march 31. both of these gentlemen were arrested on thursday. and they were actually charged on friday. and each of them were charged with mayhem and assault to produce bodily injury. and battery. and then in the documents that were released last week in court paint a pretty gruesome picture of what officials say these men did to brian stowe. they claim stow had his tongue cut and eye put out and slit on the ice and ear and lip. prior to the two men arrested, giovanni ramirez was the primary suspect in the case and officials admitted that ramirez

is innocent. but lapd is not apologizing for having believed that ramirez was the man who beat stow. >> 20/20 hindsight but it is the wrong choice but you make the choices based on the information have you at the minute and that's what we did. >> both norwood and sanchez are being held on half a million dollars bail. and in the meantime, stow is still being treated here at marin -- i'm sorry, at san francisco general hospital. and now emergency surgery last week, but his sister says he is making progress and we will certainly keep you updated as we hear more information about the arraignment laler on this morning. back to you, frank. >> christie, thanks. and the man suspected of two attacks which killed 93 people in norway is in an oslo courtroom right now. anders breivik has asked to wear a uniform with an open hearing today to explain his reasons for the massacres. but today, the judge sided with police and prosecutors who requested to be closed to the public and to the media.

and breivik has confessed to friday's bombing which killed seven people am downtown oslo, and a shooting spree which killed 86 people at a camp on you toya island. makeshift mem ors for the victims continue -- makeshift memorials for the victims continue to grow. >> i was just a few blocks away, and i heard the explosion. and i came out. and it was just like a war zone. >> and of course that mation an impact. >> investigators are looking into whether breivik acted alone or had accomplices. he confessed to the attacks but denies criminal responsibility. in his online manifesto breivik expressed relief that europe must be safe from muslim koll nyization. 4:34. a shooting in east palo alto has left one man dead and sent another to the hospital. police say officers were called to the 1400 block of east bay shore avenue around 10:30 last night. where they found the two men with gunshot wounds in a parking lot. one was pronounced dead at the

scene. the other rushed to the hospital. the victim's wounds are not considered life-threatening. no word on any potential suspect ors motive. unser hassen will bring a live report from east palo alto in the next half hour. one man is dead, another is critically injured, following a weekend shooting that happened in richmond. it happened around 10:00 saturday night. in the 24th street and exchange place. a 20-year-old man was dead at the scene when police arrived. a 28-year-old man was hospitalized. he's got serious injuries. one of the victims may have had gang ties but police don't believe the shooting was related to ongoing gang wars. >> we do not believe this is in any how connected to the shootings that we have had in the last few weeks, that we believe this is an isolated incident stemming from a dispute that happened sometime prior in the evening. >> saturday's killing was the 9th homicide this month and richmond police blame the spike in violence on the ongoing turf

war between rival games. middle school boys charged with sexual assault, the trial is set to start today. the students are accused of assaulting two girls in a class field trip in march. the boys attend john f.kennedy middle school and between 1 and 14 years old. -- 12 and 14 years old. a fifth boy is charged but he will be tried separately. eight days until the big deadline. congressional leaders are still struggling to cut a deal to raise the nation's debt limit. republicans and democrats are working on dueling plans as a deadline of august 2 looms over their head. after which the united states could begin to default on its obligations. house speaker john boehner is reported to be working on a plan that includes a short-term expense with spending cuts with another extension and more cuts in about six months. >> there is going to be a two-stage process. it is not physically possible to do all of this in one step. >> but senate majority leader harry reed says boehner's plan

is a nonstart ner the senate. reed is working on his own propose thal will raise the debt ceiling by more than $2 trillion through 2012. but spending cuts and no tax increases. the house and the senate have a goal to take up legislation by the end of the week. still work to be done there. big difference from hawaii. that's where lawrence was in the last couple of weeks. >> yes. drizzle and cold. >> did you notice the sunburn? >> no, not are really. >> it must be the makeup then. sure, it is the makeup. >> guys, it is fantastic weather on the islands. here in the states, we are looking at some low clouds and fog. moving onshore. and thick enough where we're seeing drizzle especially off to the coastline and some of that is making its way inside the bay. and cooler as we head toward the afternoon hours and right now the temperatures in the 50s outside. 59 in san jose. and 57 in livermore and 54 degrees in san rafael. mostly cloudy skies. around a good part of the bay area. and by the afternoon, we will sneak in some sunshine and temperatures warming up into the

70s. and some 80s. well inland. these numbers are still running well below the average for this time of the year. 60s and 70s around the bay now. and out to the coastline. not a whole lot of sunshine. we will keep the temperatures down in the 50s and the 60s. next couple of days going to cool you off a bit. but as we head to the middle of the week, high pressure starts to strengthen. temperatures soaring in the 90s thursday and friday. and some of the warmer spots may be a little hot but then cooling toward the weekend. >> elizabeth, you can tell, right? >> you're just as tan as me. >> thanks. >> all right. thank you, lawrence. let's go out toward the south bay. road closure, full roadway closure northbound and southbound 101 between capital expressway and 280. basically this stretch right here. where you can see either no traffic sensors or red on our sensors. obviously you're going to have to use a detour until about 5:30 this morning. part of the road improvement project. 280, we will show that you in the south bay. things are moving great right now. heading out of downtown, a live look at conditions as you

today. african-american church leaders came up with the idea after a fatal shooting involving a muni passenger and san francisco police. the officers were on patrol that day checking for fare jumpers on muni. today, some of the church members will be on muni platforms, paying fares for those who cannot afford it. >> we are sending them a wrong message that you can just get a free ride on muni. >> no, i don't think so. it will reduce the tension. you know, right now, if you wrote a ticket for a youth on the train, and you give them a ticket and you're a police officer, hell is going to break out. >> police say kenneth harding is a killed by a shot he fired himself possibly by accident. 4:42. a young man from richmond is among a group of teens attacked by a bear in alaska. it happened saturday night as a group of seven was hiking near chillletna120 miles north of anchorage part of an outdoor leadership program. the teenager from richmond,

18-year-old victor martin was treated for minor injuries. two others are hospitalized in more serious condition. including sam gotsengen of colorado whose parents are relieved the injuries are not worse. >> i guess they were coming to a curve, and there was a foul bear, a mother bear with a cub and i guess they just came across this bar and sort of startled it. he was in the back. and the kid that was up front i think is the one that may have gotten the worse of it. >> one other hiker is hospitalized in good condition. they were all taking part in a 30-day back country course. conducted by the national outdoor leadership school. today, the curtains will close on the bay area landmark. the red movie house in san francisco is showing harold and maud as the final movie. they could not raise enough money to stay open. >> we were about a little ahead of the curve for 10 years and slowly fell behind the curve and

unfortunately we have a very sad goodbye right now. >> and after the movie that closes today, it will be four single screen movie houses remaining in san francisco. are you ready for a little football? the nfl longout could end this week just in time for training camps to open. you knew it had to happen. representatives for the players set to meet in washington today, and owners approved the tentative agreement, last thursday, but players say they need a little more information, before they can ratify it and vote. the plan offers a way to split $9 billion in profits between the owners and players. and it addresses rookie compensation. and retirement benefits as well. reining world champion san francisco giants have a big day ahead of them. scheduled to meet with president obama at the white house today. the president is expected to recognize the team for its work giving back to the community, and the meeting takes place at 1:00, our time. and san francisco mayor ed lee is expected to attend as well. so one of the perks of being mayor, you get to hang out with

back now at 4:48. today, the city of niagra falls will host the first group gay wedding in the state of new york. ceremonies began early sunday, in new york city, when the state became the latest and largest to legalize same-sex marriage. more than 800 couples registered to marry yesterday but said the federal government does not recognize the unions of same-sex newlyweds. they are determined though to get that recognition. >> we're so honored to be able to be part of all of the married couples. all of the loving couples in new york. and have the same rights and privileges. >> meanwhile, opponents of gay marriage have been holding rallies in several cities,

including new york. they say governor andrew cuomo and state lawmakers have redefined marriage without giving voters a chance to weigh in. more hot weather on tap today across much of the middle of the country. one of the hot spots yesterday, was indianapolis, indiana. it didn't keep people from going to the zoo there. kind of hot but they tried to keep away from the heat. >> make sure you have your water bottles and your hair pull up if you have long hair. sunglasses. sun screen. you name it. >> we give ice treats. frozen treats to the bears and other animals. we give others the option of going inside or outside. >> and across the midwest an the east coast, people spent the week end trying to stay cool. some cities had special cooling stations where people could sit in the shade and get a drink of water. well, not much heat around the bay area. we have cool temperatures expected for most of us. and in fact, we're starting out

with low clouds and fog around a good part of the bay area. drizzle especially toward the coastline. some of that slipping inside the bay as well. now toward the afternoon, we will find some sunshine and warm spots inland with temperatures well below the average for this time of the year. 70s and 80s there. and 60s for the most part inside the bay and out to the coastline. patchy fog and yes, 50s and some 60s. and that marine layer is pushing onshore today and it looks like it will stick around for quite a while and pull back to the coast as we head to the middle of the day, you get the idea. a cool day again. stuck in this pattern. the temperatures running below the average for this time of the year and the trough that is camp the out right here bringing the cool air. the big ridge in the center part of the country and that is bringing them the baking temperatures. we are going to see the cool temperatures for today, and probably going to hang out for another day after that. and then maybe begin to warm temperatures up a bit. 83 degrees. one of the warmer spots in morgan hill. 76 in millipitas. 77 in santa clara. and 75 degrees in los altos.

to the coastline, bring the parka. it will be cool and a little wet toward the beaches. as you head inlad, you will find sunshine in antioch. brentwood and temperatures there in the low 80s. about 80 degrees in livermore and 76 in san ramon and you will find 60s in oakland and almeda. and as you head toward the north bay. we will find some sunshine, the latter part of the day as well. temperatures very comfortable. cooler than the average for this time of the year. 78 degrees santa rosa. about 81 in fairfield and about 75 degrees in kentfield. so as we look out over the next few days, it looks like temperatures may cool even a little bit more as we head in for tomorrow. but by wednesday, they start to head the other direction, and watch the temperatures soaring back up in the 80s and maybe some 90s, as we head in toward thursday and friday. and it doesn't look like we have any major heat wave on the horizon. although it looks like the numbers are moving back toward normal as we head to the latter part of the week. we may cool things down a few degrees as we head in toward saturday and sunday and it looks pretty nice. elizabeth. not bad. we could be baking in that triple digit heat. >> i don't even mind baking

anymore. i have been hanging out in the east bay to soak up all of the warm temperatures while i can. all right, thank you, lawrence. let's go out toward san jose. we have a photographer standing by where they're doing the tully road improvement project. the taillights, northbound traffic on 101. so they reopened northbound lanes of 101 between capital expressway and 280. and southbound 101 still remains completely shut down. they should be reopening southbound traffic re shortly within the next 15 to 20 minutes. thank you for that live traffic shot. to our maps. and our other big traffic story obviously the fog out there. a little difficult to see as you're crossing the san mateo bridge. westbound 92, the right-hand side of the screen, that is the commute direction, heading to the high rise, and it looks okay right now. all the way out to the peninsula. and in fact you can see all green on our traffic sensors. as you approach the toll plaza, and it looks good on the eastbound lanes as well. if you're heading into the hayward area. marin county commute, southbound 101, one of our traffic sensors there, picking up top speeds all

the way across the deck. and will -- there is no lane change yet. they're heading toward the toll phraesz plaza and san francisco. and no sensors on 101. they just reopened northbound lanes. southbound traffic remains shut down. 280 is the alternate. a little difficult to see because of the fog this morning but northbound traffic on 280 looks okay right now as you approach the 880 interchange. these are the busiest spots in the east bay. everything is mostly green on the sensors. everything is pretty much picking up top speeds down the east shore freeway. no delay out of the altamont pass. and the nimitz looks great through oakland. mass transit all fine as well. bart, ace, muni, cal train, everything reporting no delay. to get the latest traffic information, once you hit the roads, turn to kcbs at 106.9 f.m. that's your traffic. back to you. >> elizabeth, thanks. 4:53 now. millions of people may soon pay less for prescription

medications. that's because the patents on those drugs are expiring. that means other the next 14 months generic versions will now be available for seven of the world's 20 top selling drugs including lipitor, cholesterol fighter and blood thinner plavix. the patents expire after 20 years allowing for generic versions to be made. 4:54 now. where kids eat affects mow much they way, more meals away from food or prepared foods from the supermarket tend to gain more than those with home-cooked meals. kid's eating habits were looked at in a study from 1994 and more meals eaten outside the home, kids are tipping the scales because fast food and takeout usually have higher calories. kids with adhd and other developmental disabilities are at a greater risk when crossing the street. the study released in today's journal of pediatrics reveals kids who are easily distractrd more likely to be hit by a car

because of difficulties in processing information correctly. it is recommended children with adhd and other issues may need ongoing practice to recognize safe gaps in traffic. the threat of chicken pox is nearly nonexistent in 2011. the death rate from the disease has been reduced by 97% from children and teens. since the implementation of the chicken pox vaccine in 1995. a journal of pediatrics says the bottom line is that vaccines work. 4:55 now. wall street investors will get some indication of just how america feels about their economic future. a new report on consumer confidence will be released today. and a government report on new home sales sheds light on recent activity in the still struggling real estate market. facebook may be facing some serious competition. by google. google's new social networking site google+ may take some real inroads on the web and 20 million unique visitors in just
