today. did you guys notice not as much fog today around the bay area in not as thick. we didn't have that thick drizzle. just patchy fog in some parts but most of that near the coast and just inside the bay. should be a great day ahead. temperatures warming up a bit. planning on 65 degrees in san francisco. 70s and 80s inland. a warming trend is coming up. right now, let's check traffic with elizabeth. >> we have roadwork on both decks this morning. upper deck roadwork across the incline and lower deck traffic sluggish towards oakland. a couple of lanes blocked approaching treasure island. no major hot spots. more traffic in a bit. in the meantime, back to you. >> thank you. the two men charged with beating giants fan bryan stow are also being for investigated on assaults on three other san francisco giants fans. anser hassan joins us from san francisco, where stow remains

hospitalized this morning. good morning to you, anser. >> reporter: good morning. bryan stow is still struggling at sf general. he is showing some signs of improvement. back in l.a. authorities have two men behind bars who they believe are the lead suspects in the bryan stow beating case. louie sanchez age 39 and 39- year-old marvin norwood are the two lead suspects in this case. they were charged monday with assault and mayhem. mayhem is described as doing -- disable or disfiguring a victim. both men have a history of domestic violence and problems with the law. both have convictions for domestic violence. sanchez has a history of drunk driving, evading police and even carrying a loaded gun in public. as for norwood when his house was searched police found five firearms including an assault rifle. no family members are in attendance in court as the defendants made their first court appearance on monday. the lawyers say the clients don't fit the profile of the

suspect and norwood's ailing mother says she still can't believe her son is involved. >> this is what bothers me because of the compassion that he has. [ crying ] >> i feel it from him when he's around. he makes me feel better and calls me at least twice a week to see how i'm doing. >> now, back in court, the bail was set at $500,000. neither suspect entered a plea. they are expected back in a couple of weeks. if convicted, they are looking at 8 to 10 years in jail. >> thank you, anser hassan in san francisco. time now 4:33. this morning, a manhunt continues for two suspects who used high-powered rifles to fire on an east bay parks ranger. ranger took cover and the wasn't hurt but a special response team had to be used and used an armored vehicle to rescue him near the upper san leandro reservoir on the south

side of moraga. police told the people in the neighborhood to stay in their homes during the search. >> they scared you because the only way these police guys can go back there in the town are they can run towards the hills but it's definitely scary. >> that search around rancho laguna park ended for the night. police think the suspects may be involved with marijuana growing in that area. a 40-year-old woman is hospitalized because of gunfire in san francisco. she told investigators she was walking home along francisco street around 9:30 last night when she heard gunfire and then realized that she was shot in the back. san francisco police say they do not believe the woman was the intended target. her wounds are not considered life-threatening. new this morning, the attorney for the suspect in the norway attack says his hearing was closed because of fears he would send signals to other terror cells. 32-year-old suspect anders breivik pleaded not guilty

yesterday but admitted to the violence that left at least 76 dead at two different locations. the defense attorney suggests breivik is insane and suggests the suspect took drugs before the attacks to be strong and efficient and awake. norway's justice minister said today some of his employees are still missing after last week's bombing government's headquarters in oslo. an east bay teenager spent the night in his own bed, this after surviving a grizzly bear attack in alaska. 18-year-old victor martin from richmond taking a course when they were attacked. he suffered minor injuries but two companions were mauled severely, told his grandmother. >> afraid for those kids. heard. >> the worst injuries were to the first two teens who encountered the bears. one said they came upon the bear when they walked around a rock outcropping. >> i believe we startled the bear and so when grizzly bears are startled, they attack. and we also believe that the bear was a mother and there's a cub present as well so the bear was acting in defense of its cub basically. >> the teens were able to call for help with an emergency beacon. but it took several hours for a helicopter with rescue workers to arrive. president obama is calling for compromise among congressional leaders with just one week to go until the big deadline to raise the debt ceiling. he gave a prime time address to the nation last night and blamed the republicans for the current deadlock. >> a significant number of republicans in congress are insisting on a different approach, a cuts only approach,

an approach that doesn't ask the wealthiest americans or biggest corporations to contribute anything at all. >> but gop leaders say the president is the one who is refusing to budge. >> the president wanted a blank check six months ago and he wants a blank check today. this is just not going to happen. >> republicans are pushing for a two step process that would raise the debt limit enough to last the rest of the year and then a joint committee would tackle a second increase and more spending cuts but mr. obama said he will veto any plan to raise the debit ceiling if it comes in two ways. 4:37. drier yesterday? >> that sounds good. it wasn't as cold and the foggy guess kind of lifted a little bit. >> yeah. boy, that was gloomy around the bay area yesterday especially at the coast. still seeing patchy fog around the bay area confined to the coastline some making its way

inside the bay but no drizzle. we should see warmer weather around the bay area this afternoon. still these temperatures running below average. numbers outside now into the 50s just about everywhere you go. clear skies well inland. patchy fog in pacifica right now and also into san francisco. by the afternoon, you're looking at 84 degrees in fairfield, 82 livermore, 78 in san jose, you will see plenty of 60s inside the bay here and at the coast 50s and 60s and patchy fog. but we have some improving weather coming over the next few days. high pressure building in as early as tomorrow and temperatures starting to warm up by thursday looking good even the coastline going to catch a break. you will see a couple of patches of fog but we'll squeeze in some sunshine and warmer weather into the week he believed. some of the temperatures into the mid-90s. >> me, high pressure? we like it! thanks, lawrence. out live here's a look through san jose. this is near mckee. you can see headlights moving northbound. quick trip this morning across

the south bay, 101, 280 and the guadalupe parkway are all problem-free. let's do a bridge check to start off your morning commute. golden gate bridge a little foggy out there but overall not too bad across the deck. it is sluggish through novato. you notice the drive time. you will find roadwork construction blocking lanes. other bridges across the bay area, san mateo bridge live look at one of your traffic sensors approaching the toll plaza shows 63 miles per hour. and everything looks great all across the span. this right side of your screen, this is the commute direction westbound 92 right now a 13- minute drive time out of hayward toward foster city and the peninsula. we'll show you other bridges across the bay area. i think we have the bay bridge for you next. here's a live look at the upper deck where there is some roadwork just on the incline section of the bridge so on the oakland side of the span you will find various lanes blocked until 5:00 or 6:00 this morning. lower deck same thing. mass transit is all on time. back to you.

police, has teamed up with a welcome back. 4472. the family of a washington state man to died during a gun battle with san francisco police has now teamed up with a high-powered oakland attorney. john burris firm will insist on a transparent investigation into kenneth harding's death. the mother described her son on parole for juvenile rape and also called a person of interest in a recent murder case as a god fearing man and

churching-goer. >> he was very independent, loving, caring, giving. he loved his family. and loved his mother. >> police say they shot at harding after he opened fire on them after a foot chase. no possibility of a civil suit was addressed. seattle police have warned bay area police department that harding's brother, who is believed to be wanted for questioning in a murder, may be in the bay area right now. in other bay area headlines the response time to a house fire could slow to 20 minutes or more. that's if proposed cuts are approved for the east contra costa fire district. that's according to the firefighters union president. the district that covers brentwood, oakley, discovery way, byron and bethel island is $3 million short. potential cuts include cutting its firefighting crew interest 48 to 23 and closing half of the remaining fire stations. neighbors in burlingame are telling the city they don't want dozens of new cell towers

in their community. t-mobile wants to build 27 new antennas around the area. neighbors say the towers would be unattractive and so people are worried about possible health hazards. t-mobile says it needs them to improve service in the area. it is 4:44 now. the national football league will have a season this year. the longest work stoppage in nfl history is ended after more than 4 months of bickering. the end of the lockout means players from both the 49ers and raiders and other teams con end their informal -- can end their informal practices and begin training camp this week. the raiders open tomorrow, 49ers open at their santa clara home thursday. >> i can't tell you how good it's going to be to have those guys, you know, in the building face to face, knee to knee, smelling their breath. i'm worry, i'm nervous. that's part of my job to be

family is not disclosing when or where. winehouse's parents visited her ho ed the funeral for amy winehouse is not being disclosed as to when or where. the 27-year-old was found dead, no known cause. results of the toxicology test are expected to take at least two weeks. winehouse release today with albums in her career in 2003 and 2006. former governor arnold schwarzenegger says his son's

condition is improving. this is more than a week after a body boarding accident. 13-year-old christopher schwarzenegger suffered a collapsed lung and broken bones in the accident that happened off malibu. the former governor posted the update online yesterday thanking well-wishers for their support. the u.s. postal service is considering closing more than a tenth of its retail outlets all around the country. the company lost $8 billion last year. retail business has declined as first class mail now moves to the internet and as the slump in advertising by mail continues. now the agency will study more than 3600 local offices, branches and stations for possible closures. most of those are in rural areas. well, we have plenty of low clouds and fog around the bay area yesterday. that managed to break up in the afternoon. today not as cloudy to begin with. we are looking at mostly clear skies already inland. just patchy fog inside the bay and the fog continues toward the coastline but even there we are not seeing the drizzle that we had yesterday. i think all signs pointing

toward a much nicer day around the bay area today. more sunshine. temperatures in the mid-80s inland. 60s inside the bay. 70s at the santa clara valley. toward the coastline looking at 50s and 60s with low clouds and fog for the day. high pressure nowhere to be found just yet but that may change. a trough is keeping temperatures below average. but high pressure will sneak in lifting up this system and we'll warm up as early as tomorrow. highs today still getting on the hot side into fresno. planning on 97 degrees by the afternoon. if you do head up to the high country looking fantastic up there. 77 degrees in lake tahoe. billion 6 and gorgeous in yosemite -- about 86 and gorgeous in yosemite. 88 ukiah. around the bay area, we are

going to see temperatures 83 in morgan hill. 50s and 60s at the beaches. toward the east bay similar temperatures to yesterday maybe a couple of degrees warmer. 86 in brentwood. 85 in pittsburg. 83 in concord and about 68 degrees in berkeley. north bay temperatures cool out at the beaches, planning on 60s for most part there. and then looking at 70s and 80s in the interior. i think over the next couple of days we are looking at improving weather as high pressure builds in compressing that marine layer. more sunshine for everyone especially into thursday and friday. that's where we could likely see some temperatures popping up into the 90s in the warmest parts of the bay area and staying very nice right into the weekend. how about that, elizabeth? >> i like it! can you feel that humidity in here? already, yeah, it is sticky already this morning. all right. let's go out towards sir francis drake boulevard. southbound 101 through marin county we have an accident reported in this area blocking

one lane of traffic with wood debris in the road. just north of that still seeing roadwork through novato stretches of southbound 101 closed until 6:00 this morning, ongoing roadwork there. to the bay bridge, where we have roadwork on the upper deck and the lower deck actually not causing any big delays. should be wrapping up shortly but if you are crossing the incline heading into san francisco on the upper deck construction crews out there various lanes blocked. to the south bay, looks great coming up 101, guadalupe parkway. and we have a camera showing you 280 traffic out of downtown san jose. it's difficult to see this this time of the morning, maybe fog making it a little extra difficult to see this morning. san mateo bridge, other bridges fine just live look at westbound and eastbound 92. these taillights that is the commute direction westbound 92 right now drive time is 13 minutes or 14 minutes out of hayward to the high-rise towards foster city. the peninsula towards the east

bay, eastbound lanes look just as good, as well. no brake lights out of the altamont pass. this will change in the next hour or so but right now your commute is 15 minutes past the windmills. altamont pass towards 680 and the dublin interchange. if you are thinking of using mass transit today everything is on time for bart, ace, muni metro and caltrain. remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9- fm. we pool all our information with them so once you hit the road, you can tune to them. that's your traffic. back to you. >> thank you. mcdonald's is going to try to make their happy meals a little more healthy. the fast food chain plans to add a serving of fruit or vegetables and shrink the portion of french fries starting in september. it will be in place in all u.s. restaurants in mcdonald's by april. last year santa clara county banned toys in meals with fast- food restaurants if the meal

didn't meet specific nutritional guidelines. it may be possible to predict whether someone is likely to survive or die from a heart attack. researchers identified traits that can help determine whether a first heart attack will be fatal including hypertension, body mass index, heart rate, and your race. doctors hope identifying specific predictors will lead to early intervention for high risk patients. that study was done at wake forest baptist medical center. ten years after 9/11, the american psychological society is out with more than a dozen studies about how americans are coping. one study shows that the psychological effects on kids who watched news coverage were only temporary. but the attacks may have affected their general beliefs about the world. another study finds many people who lost loved ones and many first responders are still suffering with post traumaer stress disorder. and how to deal with ptsd. there is an app for that.

the pentagon and veterans affairs department developed a half dozen atmosphere apps like ptsd coach and greet relax. they offer information about what the military calls invisible wounds from war and techniques to manage the symptoms. the apps are not meant to replace treatment tore make a diagnosis. the government has issues and apparently we do, too. a new a.p. poll shows half the country is feeling the stress of credit cards, mortgages and other personal debt. less than a year, the poll showed americans were becoming more confident about their personal finances. los gatos-based netflix reports an increase in profits. online video rental company said profits jumped 55% last quarter as it added more subscribers but it warned that it will add customers at a slower pace this quarter because of the recent 60% price increase. >> i heard a lot of people
