degrees, cooler today. 67 oak. 77 san jose and concord. the cooldown continues. how much longer? we'll talk about that coming up. gianna has traffic. >> thank you. good morning. live to 880 now in oakland. accident-free in the east bay. however, we have some roadwork on 880 near high street and 92. details on that it up. back to you. 4:31. a developing story. firefighters in oakland have control over two separate fires that broke out at two homes this morning. >> there are a few de-- few day teams right now on either of them -- few details right now on either of them right now. we have a crew at the scene and we are going to bring you more information as soon as it becomes available. in other news, muni may soon be firing dozens of drivers who are not licensed to do their jobs. elizabeth wenger is in san francisco with why they are still being allowed to work for the transit agency.

she joins us now with more. >> reporter: 48 muni drivers without commercial class b licenses. muni says they are weeks away from firing them. apparently, these operators they got letters back in january asking them to resolve the situation or face termination. now, some came back with a valid license but more than 40 did not. none have been fired officially yet. why didn't they have the licenses to begin with? some have suspended licenses for off duty officials like dui, others let them expire. the majority of these operators can't pass the state and federally mandated physical so basically medical reasons. a new labor contract just implemented in june gives muni a lot more pull when it comes to firing these workers. for the first time a new employment contract allows sf mta and muni to terminate

drivers without multiple writeups if they don't have their class b commercial license. let's hear from a muni spokesman now. >> as early as two weeks and no later than four weeks we'll be able to separate these operators from the mta. >> you don't want to put the public at risk. there's been a couple of accidents at this station. >> reporter: a west portal accident muni acknowledges the operator blacked out from a medical condition before slamming into the back of another train. the transit unit did not return our phone calls from last night. muni says the operators aren't working. they are not on the roads. they are not driving. they are also not being paid but they are receiving benefits until they are cleared to work. the bottom line is muni has to figure out how to clear these operators from working or how

to get them to pass these physicals. medical reason is the bulk of why they are not on the job. >> thank you, elizabeth wenger in san francisco. a vacaville camp counselor suspected of having sex with a 1-year-old boy. 21-year-old met the boy at the city's summer camp program called teen extreme according to the prosecutors, and took him to her home to have sex. the victim's parents discovered the crime. >> they reported suspicious text messages between their son and katrina. >> police don't believe they did anything inappropriate at the summer camps. convicted kidnapper and rapist phillip garrido has admitted to at least three more abductions from the bay area to the nevada border but reportedly denies involvement in the disappearance of michaela garret, the 9-year-old reported missing in hayward in 1988 in a case that's never been solved. garrido made the denial during

a jailhouse interview in may according to the el dorado district attorney vern pierson. pierson spoke yesterday in sacramento at a forum on how state officials failed to recognize that garrido was a danger. he was on parole for a previous kidnap and rape conviction when he on ducted jaycee dugard from south lake tahoe -- when he abducted jaycee dugard from south lake tahoe. suspects in the death of a tourist in san francisco are due back in court this afternoon. six men pleaded not guilty last month. they were arrested in may for the murder of a woman from germany gunned down near geary and mason a year ago. the suspects are all believed to be gang members. putting a stop to violence in east palo alto. that's the subject of a town hall meeting this evening. the mayor and police chief called the meeting after four homicides in east palo alto in the last two weeks. they will talk about the city's priorities on public safety and take comments from residents. that meeting at city hall starts at 6 p.m.

there's another standoff in washington and it could cost the government more than $1 billion. congress has bailed out for its summer recess without acting to fund the faa, the federal aviation administration. that means more than $1 billion in airline ticket taxes aren't being collected. it also means 4,000 faa employees are furloughed and at least 70,000 contract employees are out of work. the president is calling on congress to return from recess. >> i don't know if i can make my rent. i don't know if i can make my car insurance. >> the main sticking point is workers' rights. house republicans want to make it harder for airline employees to unionize. democrats don't. san francisco international airport is extending its runways. the goal is to reduce dangerous landings. it's in an effort to meet federal standards that require a little buffer zone around

runways. construction will be complete in 2015. meat giant cargill is recalling millions of pounds of ground turkey. one person in sacramento has died. six other californians are sick all linked to salmonella in the turkey. that recall involves 36 million pounds of turkey fresh and frozen. it was produced between february 20 and tuesday. all the recalled products are printed with a code estp963. that turkey has been sold under a lot of different brand names, most prominent honeysuckle white, also safe way, shady brook farms and kroger. we posted more information about the recall on our website, cbssf.com if you want to look it up. 4:37. let's check traffic and weather. >> you were at the ballgame. >> i was at the ballgame. it was warm and sunny.

collided with a motor boat near one man is dead after two boats crashed in the bay. a dinghy collided with a motorboat near hunters point yesterday afternoon. the small boat capsized sending a father and son overboard. rescuers pulled the two boaters ashore. the dad is in good condition at the hospital. his son was pronounced dead. authorities are still investigating into what caused this crash. it is 4:48 now. another story of a california teenager being buried alive and then rescued. it happened at newport beach

the bay. temperatures around the state, cooler into the sacramento valley, 86 degrees there. still warm in fresno and 95. partly cloudy at the monterey bay. 64 degrees. 82 morgan hill sunny this afternoon, plenty of sunshine in san jose and 77 degrees there. cloudy at the coast. 73 sunshine into union city. east bay temperatures, you know, yesterday we were flirting with 90s. today we are going to struggle to get to the low 80s in many spots inland, about 82 warm in brentwood. 79 pittsburg. about 77, sunshine livermore. cool and partly cloudy into oakland, 67 degrees, temperatures below average for this time of year. so as we look toward the north bay we have some 50s and 60s as you approach the coastline. plenty of 70s though showing up

in the valleys. maybe as high as about 80 degrees into fairfield but you get the idea, temperatures have taken a hit, staying down into friday. over the weekend high pressure builds out of the desert southwest again allowing for heating and warmer temperatures. that will compress the marine layer and hopefully things begin to dry out as well, too. drizzle dissipates sunday and monday. by the middle of next week back to some summer weather around the bay area. by the way, another big game for the giants tonight. they are playing the phillies. expecting about 59 degrees tonight. breezy and cool. probably a little bit damp, too. so if you are heading out in that direction, prepare. it is going to be chilly out at the park. let's check the roads with gianna. >> thank you. lots of roadwork out there this morning. if you plan to take the lower deck of the bay bridge roadwork in effect on the skyway various lanes blocked at least until 6:00. the rest of the bay bridge problem-free. here's a live look at conditions approaching the toll plaza. no delays.

metering lights are off. ongoing roadwork through 101 out of marin county, novato, san rafael affected. both directions various lanes blocked. this is a paving project that will go through september. they are hoping to have all lanes re-opened by 5:00, possibly 6:00 but we continue some slight delays throughout the morning there. right now 13 minutes south 101 from 37 to 580. the good news as you look live at the golden gate bridge, once you hit the bridge no snags. clear out of the waldo tunnel across the span towards the toll plaza. we have some malfunctioning traffic lights as you work your way on the tully road off-ramp from south 101. may cause a backup approaching the off-ramp but 101 itself the main lines unaffected. the rest of the south bay problem-free. we are clear on 880/237. no delays there. traffic looks good through milpitas. drive times now slow on the guadalupe parkway. 101 not bad. and 280 through downtown looking good.
