still no trace tonight of the two year old sacramento girl who's sparked a statewide amber ieves she was good evening. still no trace tonight of the 3- year-old sacramento girl who has sparked a statewide amber alert. the fbi believes she was abducted by her father and they may be here in the bay area. don knapp on what happened that may have led the father to take off with his daughter. don. >> reporter: the most common case of child abduction is a parent taking a child usually in a bitter child custody dispute. in this case authorities believe this child's life is in danger. concern continues to grow for the safety of a 2-year-old girl last seen with her in a sacramento supermarket on saturday, august 6th. both father an daughter have disappeared and the fbi says both could be in danger. >> he may be a danger to himself or maybe even to the child. >> reporter: the father learned over the weekend that he had lost his part of the joint custody arrangement he had with his wife. the court granted the mother

full custody. the father is believed to be drying a green toyota forerunner. the child has brown hair and eyes. when the girl was not returned by tuesday the ex-wife went to the police. >> it is not uncommon that he is a day or two late. she felt waiting a day or two was not a big issue but by tuesday she was very issued. >> reporter: the fbi activated the crimes against children task force. why? >> the most important thing that we have seen is that when normal activities stops, he is not using a credit card, is he not calling relatives, associates, we have to be mindful of that. we have to be mindful it is a 2- year-old as well. >> reporter: this is a friends for 12 years. >> he is an excellent father. the couple times i have seen

them, a very great father image. very close. very protective. >> reporter: family members also say they don't believe he would harm his daughter but the fbi after interviewing several witnesses and family members decided the girl wars in danger and immediately opened an investigation. >> i will always err on the side of caution to make sure we get the proper notices, the proper investigative resources out there to track him down. >> reporter: the fbi says some 600 agencies around the state are looking for madeline fay and her father. >> don knapp in survive. thanks. oakland police defending their decision to shoot a man last night. they were called to the 2100 block of fruitvale avenue last night after reports of a manure naturing in the street when officers tried to arrest him they say he became violent swinging a metal pipe at them. a female officer was injured and she fired the shot that hit that man. tonight the man is recovering. the officer was treated and released. after this week's murder of a 3- year-old boy people in oakland

were hoping the tragedy would help unite the community but not even a week later. two more men are added to this year's list of homocides and grieving families are pleading to stop the violence. >> what can we do? we can't bring them back to life. >> reporter: last night this oakland family lost a loved one forever. >> he is my brother. >> reporter: the 20-year-old man shot in east oakland. he died in his car on maddox drive where his family gathers today 1993 always protected me from my other brother. >> the last thing he told the officer, you know what, please tell my mom i love her and tell my dad and family i love them and that was his last words. >> reporter: he was one of two murders in oakland overnight. the other, a man found on galindo street in the fruitvale district bringing the number of murders in oakland to 75. at this time last year there were 52. also in east oakland a car wash today to benefit the family of a 3-year-old who was caught in

the cross fire of a shooting on monday. down the street from the car wash a memorial for little carlos at the scene where he was killed has grown to span almost half a block. it is a showing of how heart broken the community is. >> i feel for these people. >> reporter: neighbors who don't even know the family came to show support. >> we want people to turn back around and say i do want to make a positive influence. they may not have known the family or kid but it doesn't matter because this is your community too. >> reporter: there is hope that some good could come from the toddler's death. >> it has to start somewhere. >> reporter: but days after little carlos was lost, peace seems far away. >> i feel bad in my heart. that was my real brother. he was my close brother. so >> reporter: in addition to last night's murders four other people were also shot and injured in oakland. they are expected to survivor

survive. painting murals, even building a dog park. one volunteer says it was just the moral booster needed in the battered community. >> having folks come out and taking away the kind of negative things. i think it is really important and then the community members, they come out, we have had neighborhood people, we have had kids out here. we have had all kind of different folks coming through. >> after today's service project volunteers enjoyed a concert. >> a grizzly discovery in hayward, a woman's body set on fire last night. firefighters were on scene first thinking that it was a building fire. officers believe the woman died before being set on fire and she has not been identified. san rafael police still searching for a suspect in a

home invasion robbery. they say four men including one with a gun barged into a home on cway at around 5:30 last night. they took off in a car spotted by police and all four of them ran from the vehicle but only three were found. that fourth man is still on the loose this evening. the robbery victim was not hurt. >> state senator leyland ye has joined the course of critics after b.a.r.t. shut off cell service on some of its station platforms. the transit agency was trying to cut off cell phone communication by people threatening to protest over last month's fatal b.a.r.t. shooting. ye is calling for a full investigation. the a.c.l.u. is threatening to sue. an east bay neighborhood has literally been left in the dark by thieves. copper thieves. about a third of a mile. there is no streetlights in that area and that is leaving a lot of people there nervous.

in sacramento to stop the project. the coalition that includes palo alto, african and menlo parks says the estimates on ridership and traffic impacts are flawed. the judge is going to rule in the next 90 days. it is always nice to have a clean driving record but to do it for decades and more than a million miles, that's impressive. the postal workers honored for reaching that milestone now. >> reporter: he is doing what he has done for the last 31 years as a letter carrier. but he has something special sitting inside his mail truck. an award for safety. >> i am proud of myself. >> reporter: yun is one of the 22 postal carriers that achieved hitting 1 million miles on their mail route without getting in any kind of an accident. the bay valley district honored them with the 13th annual million mile club ceremony. >> and for my kids, my wife, my family, i'm proud of it.

in the south bay. over 100,000 people are expected to attend the event which is called one of the top jazz festivals in the nation going on through tomorrow in downtown san jose. what perfect weather for a festival. it is not too hot down there. >> it isn't. it is usually sweltering in san jose. i was at a festival the other weekend and it was tolerable. today is another one of those days. it is a good thing. >> it was brave of you to go there because of the traffic. >> traffic and hot food and hot weather. >> it wasn't too hot. outside not too hot for people in san jose. outside lands, pretty pleasant weather. look at this shot of the bay bridge. clear as a bell which is unusual for us. but this time of year cloud cover an issue. plenty of blue peeking through. we will see partly cloudy areas into the overnight hours. at the bay mostly clear to start. become cloudy, cloudier i should say into those late evening hours and at the coastline we will contend with a little bit of fog later on.

temperature bay area wide sitting in the 50s for the most part. warming up nicely for tomorrow. similar to what we are seeing today. inland locations making it to the mid-80s. we will see sunshine there and mostly sunny skies at the bay shores making it to about the low 70s in our warmest spots at the bay coastline making it only to the low 60s. mostly cloudy to start the day and then we will see some clearing. right now clear for the most part especially in those inland locations and we will start to see clouds surge into the inland spots in the overnight hours and that's how we will start our morning as well. very minor changes ahead. this low in the picture keeping temperatures on the cooler side. still a couple of days until we start to see this area of high pressure build into the bay area and bump up those temperatures a few degrees. 92 in redding. 92 for yosemite. 71 for oakland. cooler in the city at 66 and 79 in san rafael. so pretty similar weather
