going to face tomorrow. dick: serena williams after winning wimbledon a year ago and has that tragic accident, cuts her tendon in her foot and here she is back. all she's done this summer is going 17-0. mary: boy, is she back. john: she was on her way when she won that again. be the greatest female player ever to me. and in these fortunate occurrences, life-threatening ones in her case, i think it's a very difficult but it gave you a newfound appreciation for being on the court. that's why you see her so eager so fit. dick: let's get the comments from the two semifinal lists. mary jo fernandez. >> serena, you've been through a lot but you've been dominant, haven't dropped a set. what's it like to be in the semis in the u.s. open? >> it's great. i'm real excited to be here and

athlete but by far the worst preinterview of all time. i tried to help mary jo cook up some good questions for you. it doesn't matter. she's just going go out there and do what she does. she's not going talk about it. dick: she's not going to spend any energy. she'll do her talking on the court. john: i cannot blame her for that. we didn't have that back when we were going on the court. mary: how would you have been? john: i would have been grumpy or worse than serena. dick: one thing about this whom's going to turn 30 years of age, serene ea williams will show you her gut feelings. mary: she will. she hasn't yet dropped a set playing the kind of ball to win wimbledon two years ago. what she has shown -- she hasn't even had to get into her best gear. but on the court you get this fierce, positive energy from her. i mean, she's been showing it

every single round. when you see her doing this making shots -- why can't she give that to mary jo? that's what i'm talking about. dick: verbally. mary: but she'll show it out there. it's going to be very, very hard to stop her. dick: caroline wozniacki, number one in the world. she's been badgered by the fact by how can you be number one in the world and not have title. does she have the game to knock off serena? john: historically speaking she's a very good, bordering on great female tennis player. and she's naturally a counterpuncher and she's got to get a bigger game. and the other problem for her when she's gone to that big occasion, she's come up short. you just hit the nail on the head, the pressure of being number one, the expectations and now the question because she hasn't done it. she certainly has been over

powered, the same of what we might see tonight. and last year against zvonareva. this is when it first started. you're the number one player in the world, number one seed, you've got to step it up. and she hasn't been able to since then. certainly she should try to pull that off and it's going to be a very tall order. dick: wozniacki doesn't have the power to create a lot of winners. so what does she do strategically? john: she's got to keep the ball very, very deep. that will be tougher for serena. it will be close, we hope. dick: think it will be close? never mind. mary: of course -- it could be close, absolutely. i mean -- look, she plays in this very safe little harbor. and that's good enough to beat almost anybody. i just don't think it will be good enough to beat serena. she'll have to take some risks, go for some shots and hopefully stay on serve because that's the

just reminding us we've been plagued by that. that's why the schedule rearranged. an hour or so late. the first semifinal. djokovic, federer. djokovic saving two match points has advanced to the finals. and it's rafael nadal and murray. they play another long three-hour-plus match before nadal advanced to the finals. and here come the women scheduled to arrive at 8:00. and after 10:00 they're finally on court to decide the second spot in the finals for the women's championship tomorrow to face samantha stosur of australia. serena williams, 29 years of age, born in saginaw, grew up on the public courts of compton, california. now makes her home in florida, home beach gardens. and just has come back with a roar this summer feeling very comfortable and in terrific shape and just beating up on her

dick: and another. john: it's a huge weapon to have against any opponent. she can bank winning a couple of easy points with that beautiful serve. wozniacki is going to serve a whole lot harder every time she tries to hold. john: you mentioned wozniacki is the youngest, only 21. still has room and time to get to be a better player. so the best is yet to come for her. dick: that's saying something when you're already number one and you're making millions of dollars.

dick: but she did not have a good prep on the hard court, lost in cincinnati coming in before the win in new haven. john: she works very hard on her conditioning. and if she can go the distance, i was talking to her a couple of days ago and she liked the idea of playing the best of five women's matches. she liked her chances against the other ladies. don't think we'll see that for a while. john: it will be super saturday, sunday for the men and women.
