cities large and small. over the weekend, at least 25 cities from coast-to-coast saw demonstrations. they are aimed at the financial industry and the government's failure to get the economy moving. we go to susan mcginnis in washington with more. susan, good morning to you. >> reporter: terrell, good morning. you know, the spread of these protests are making some say they are gaining legitimacy and plilt political clout as others are saying. but some say it's an emotional outcry and not a true movement, but either way, whatever it is, washington is noticing. protesters camped out blocks from the capital say they won't leave, even when their permit expires today. >> we had to be prepared to vacate or to be arrested when they come and we still have to be prepared. >> reporter: it's a similar picture of determination and frustration across the country. >> we got sold out. >> reporter: from new york city, where the "occupy wall street" movement first began. >> wall street. >> reporter: to california and the south.

>> this is what democracy looks like. >> reporter: americans young and old are taking to the streets, protesting corporate greed, social inequality and dysfunction in washington. >> the rich are getting richer and the poorer are getting poorer. >> greed is everywhere. we are losing our middle class. >> reporter: the protests showing no sign of letting up. congressional leaders and even some president hopefuls are taking sides. >> i regard the wall street protest as a natural outcome of a bad education system, teaching them dumb ideas. >> i don't have the idea of somebody protesting the success of someone else. >> reporter: newt gingrich and herman cain slammed the movement sunday, but house minority leader nancy pelosi defended it. >> i support the message to the establishment, whether it's wall street or the political establishment and the rest, that change has to happen. >> reporter: demonstrators plan to keep at it until change does happen. they are calling for protests across the world next week.

some protests planned for this week, there's a demonstration in front of the mortgage bankers association meeting in chicago. also an anti-columbus day rally in new york. terrell? >> susan mcginnis in washington for us this morning, thank you. wall street is also bracing for a possible cyberattack. a week or so ago, a online threat from hackers anonymous threatened to strike the computer system. some members of anonymous have called that threat a fake. this week, obama administration including the attorney general over the bungled fast and furious gun operation. program run by the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms deliberately allowed more than 2,000 guns to cross in mexico. the idea was to track the weapons as they float into the hands of mexican drug cartel. the problem is the atf lost track of most of those guns. they started showing up at crime scenes both in mexico and arizona. one of the guns even turned up at a shoot-out that killed brian terry, a u.s. customs agent.

chairman of the house committee says he believes attorney general eric holder knew about the operation earlier than he acknowledged last may. >> i'm not sure of the exact date but i probably heard about fast and furious the last few weeks. >> he answered before judicial committee, myself, jason chaffetz and others didn't know about it until two weeks earlier. that is disingenuous on its face. there was a dramatic rescue off the coast of florida. seven people stayed alive treading water up to 20 hours after their boat sank. the boat cap-sized and sank in rough water on saturday. no one was wearing life jackets. one woman, 80 years old, drowned. seven others on board, including a 4-year-old girl, drifted apart. three were rescued by a passing boat. the others, about an hour later by the coast guard. kansas city still no leads or suspects in the case of a missing 10-month-old baby.

her parents say lisa irwin was abducted from her crib last sunday night. the parents start cooperating on police on thursday but met again with detectives on saturday. >> we are sitting at the same table together now with the mother and father and, no doubt about it, that is our best bet to help find this child. >> police searched a neighborhood, and a nearby landfill, but found nothing. a tornado that struck san antonio, texas, left several families homeless this morning. the twister touchdown down sunday more than. it cut a path of a destruction a mile and a half long. the same storm system dumped more than 3 inches of rain on that region but it wasn't enough to put a dent in this year's historic drought. in the pacific, hurricane jova is headed toward the west coast of mexico. it is a category 2 storm and sustained winds near 100 miles per hour and stronger gusts. jova is expected to turn to the northeast tomorrow, strengthen and approach resort areas on the mexican coast by tuesday afternoon.

overseas battles between christians and muslims in egypt left at least 24 dead. at least 200 were wounded in sunday's ballots. the fighting in downtown cairo was triggered by an attack on a christian church in southern egypt. dozens have been arrested. this was the worst spat of violence since the protests that pushed former president hosni mubarak from power this past summer. to the president race now. it was dominated over the weekend by questions on mitt romney's mormon faith. on friday, pastor robert jeffress of dallas endorsed texas governor rick perry and then said why he wasn't backing romney. >> in my estimation, mormonism is a cult and it would give credence to a cult to have a mormon candidate. >> romney is calling for a civil and respectful debate. yesterday, when asked about romney's faith, his gop rivals side-stepped the issue. drew levinson reports. >> reporter: from the campaign stumps. >> i am a believer in jesus christ. >> reporter: to the sunday talk shows.

>> i'm a lifelong christian. >> reporter: the gop presidential candidates answered questions about their religion, but shied away from commenting on candidate mitt romney's mormon faith. >> i am not going to do an analysis of mormonism versus christianity for the sake of answering that. >> i think none of us should sit in judgment on somebody else's religion. >> reporter: anti-mormon sentiments surfaced this weekend at the value voters summit. the candidates didn't say it, but some of the participants characterized the religion as being outside the mainstream, a cult. some evangelicals say they don't believe mormons are christians. >> to make this a big issue is ridiculous right now. because every day i'm on the street talking to people, this is not what people are talking about. >> reporter: but people on the street are talking about how religion could affect presidential decisions. >> christianity is a big part of my life and that is why the country was founded, so it would make a difference to a point. >> who knows.

he is the succeed runner to die the last two years during the race. california about to become the first state in the nation to ban children and teenagers 18 and under from using tanning beds. the devices have been linked to skin cancer. other states have restrictions on children under 16 years old. california officials say there are more tanning salons in los angeles than there are starbucks or mcdonald's. the law takes effect on january 1st. cbs news "moneywatch" time on a monday. stocks were up and down in trading today in asia. ashley morrison in new york with that and more. good morning to you. >> good morning to you, terrell. >> reporter: asian markets were mixed today after the leaders of germany and france said they had reached agreements on shoring up europe's shaky banking sector, but didn't give any specifics. hong kong hang seng edged up a fraction. tokyo's nikkei was closed. on wall street, the focus this week turns to corporate earnings. stocks dipped friday after a disappointing jobs report, but still made slid gains for the week. the dow was up more than 1.5%, while the nasdaq was up almost 3%.

gas prices are in reverse, according to aaa. the national average is now $3.39 for a gallon of regular. and the price has gone down every day for a month. we are paying about a quarter less than we were four weeks ago, but still 60 cents more than this same time last year. detroit's labor problems may be over, at least for a few years. union leaders from chrysler are meeting today reportedly to finalize a new contract. talks between the uaw and chrysler have been hung up over profit sharing and entry level jobs. chrysler is the only detroit automaker still without a new labor agreement. at the movies, a 1-2 punch for "real steel." it took in better than an expected $27 million to win the weekend box office. george clooney's political saga "the ides of march" opened in

in the pennant battle between the brewers and the cards. a three-run bomb, that would be david freese. st. louis has the lead. prince fielder's monster blast in the fifth put milwaukee on top to stay. the brewers took the opener of the n.l. championship beating the cards 9-6. game two tonight. in texas, rain postponed game two of the american league championship. the rangers taking on the detroit tigers. it will be played this afternoon. the rangers won the first game on saturday. in the nfl, the falcons came on strong against unbeaten packers. atlanta recovered a ryan grant fumble that led to a 1-yard touchdown run by michael turner. falcons have a 14-point lead, but then aaron rodgers, this guy took over. he threw for almost 400 yards and pair of touchdowns. the pack smacked the falcons 25-14. they remain undefeated. in houston, oakland visiting. fans and players remember the raiders legendary owner al davis who died saturday. jason campbell threw two touchdown passes to put oakland up by five over the texans.

it was michael huff's end zone interception, though, with 7 seconds on the clock that nailed it. following davis' order, just win, baby. raiders did it 25-20. philadelphia, the so-called dream team is dreaming of getting a second win. the eagles michael vick picked off four times by buffalo. it's the most interceptions he's ever had in one game. the bills clipped the eagles 31-24. philadelphia now 1-4, their worst start since 1999. finally, tiger woods was playing in his first pga tour event in seven weeks. an odd thing happened here. take a look. wood was about to putt on the 7th when a fan threw a hot dog at him. the incident, by the way, not captured on video. and the hot dog never came close to hitting woods. the fan was arrested for disturbing the peace. woods finished in the middle of the pack at 7 under. that guy cannot catch a break.

on the "cbs morning news," here's a look at today's weather. an influx of tropical moisture is producing heavy rain in florida and portions of the southeast. there are scattered storms in the plains from texas to north dakota. warmer than normal temperatures and lots of sunshine continue in the northeast. the northwest is cool, damp, and cloudy. here is another look at this morning's top stories. those "occupy wall street" protests targeting corporate greed and economic inequality are now in their fourth week and have spread from coast-to-coast. protesters in washington, d.c. say they won't leave their position about two blocks from the white house, even though their permit expires today. seven people were rescued off the florida keys after treading water for 20 hours. their boat cap-sized and then sank on saturday afternoon. a passing boat picked up some of them. the coast guard saved the rest.

one passenger, an 80-year-old woman, didn't make it. france is buzzing this morning awaiting word about first lady karla bruni's baby. police and paparazzi are camped outside the hospital where she is expected to give birth. it's reported the baby was due a week ago. this will be the former fashion model's second child and president sarkozy's fourth. and sir paul mccartney is no longer a man on the run. the ex-beatle has gotten married again. this is wife number three and as charlie d'agata explains, mccartney commits he is fond of those funny little love songs. >> reporter: paul mccartney said once, "i just like being in love." he looked it as he stepped out of a registry office this afternoon with wife number three. the former nancy shevell is now lady mccartney. the title comes with sir paul's knighthood. it's the same registry office where mccartney married his wife linda in 1969. the man who wrote "get back to

let's take a trip to australia, shall we? there is a golf course there only captain hook could love. forget the sapped traps or deep rough. the course in brisbane, strai australia, is invested with man-eating sharks. it's a story that jonathan samuels of sky news really got his teeth into. >> reporter: if your game lacks bite, come and play a round at this course near brisbane, but be on your guard on the 14th tee, because this is probably the world's only shark-infested golf course. in the lake in the middle of the course live half a dozen man-eating bull sharks. during heavy floods, they were washed onto the course from a nearby river. when the water receded, the sharks were stranded. >> golf course flooded the logan river, so it flooded at the time. >> wow. >> there you go.

>> reporter: the general manager of the golf club gets some interesting reaction from visiting players. >> you can't believe how close you are. that is probably the biggest thing. i mean, you would be six feet away, you know? normally, they just step back and say something i won't repeat, but, yeah, just amazed. >> reporter: the sharks are thriving in the well-stocked lake, even breeding. a couple of are close to ten foot long. they are sometimes given a treat. one even had a nibble at our camera. what is it like working on a shark-infested golf course? >> i don't get too close. never been this close obviously. >> look. wow. >> reporter: in the past, local kids used to jump in the lake here to collect lost golf balls for a bit of extra pocket money. funny enough, no amount of money
