night, it's worldwid good evening. i'm ann notarangelo. it began on wall street. tonight, it is worldwide. hundreds of thousands of people marching in nearly a thousand cities around the globe. here in the bay area, hollywood star power joined the movement. don knapp is outside oakland city hall. don? >> reporter: here, some people have told us their personal stories of losing jobs, losing their health care, losing their homes and it could be they find encouragement and even empowerment in being with so many others who are in similar circumstances. demonstrators marched from laney college to oakland city hall. joined by mayors of oakland, berkeley and richmond and also drawn by the star power of actor activist danny glover. >> we are here because it is the right time to be here. it is time where we're sick and tired of being sick and tired. >> reporter: protesters acknowledged they represent various causes. but find common ground in the nation's economic crisis. >> america is not going to get any jobs, a significant amount

of jobs back. until we have fair trade. free trade has taken all of the jobs out of the country. >> it all boils down to who is reaping profits and who is paying the price. >> penny hall of berkeley claims friends have died because they could not afford medical care. >> mostly the celebrated 1% are making the profits in a very mean-spirited way. >> reporter: oakland's rally is part of a week of rallies organized with "occupy wall street." activists demand that wall street and millionaires claim what they claim is a fair share and generally the aks are tolerated if not encourage -- actions are tolerated if not encouraged by some city leaders. robert scott is a san francisco city college professor. >> 1% of the population control 40% of the wealth and i think we see it in the way of the health care costs and the education system. >> and the rallies offer an opportunity to be heard at a unique time in history.

>> it has to be a revolution. an evolution. and transformation. we have to bring it about. >> reporter: a smaller occupy san francisco rally and march was taking place in downtown san francisco late this afternoon. our aerial pictures show you marchers moving down market street toward perhaps the federal reserve. back here in oakland, where this rally took place today, the folks who were participating are camped out here at city hall. we don't know how much longer they're going to be camped out but they're not leaving so far. ann? >> don knapp in oklahoma, thank you. in europe, thousands of occupy protesters gathered near saint paul's cathedral where wikileaks founder julian assange told them the international banking system is filled with quote corrupt money. the demonstrators have set up camp but police are ordering them to move on and have made a handful of arrests. in the shadow of rome's ancient coliseum, riot police fired tear gas and water cannons at a group that broke away from the main occupy protesters.

the demonstrators smashed shop and bank windows and set cars on fire. at least two news crews were assaulted by rampaging protesters. 70 people were injured. the even in asia where the global economy is booming, about 200 people rallied in the streets of tokyo. they're angry over the u.s.-led effort to set up a free trade block agreement with japan. they also marched on the tokyo electric power plant, the operator of the fuke show ma plant that suffered a nuclear meltdown last march. the occupy oakland march got its start at the college and the mayor of oakland had a safety summit for residents and christin ayers has more on the plans to reduce crime. >> reporter: applause and a smattering of boos as mayor jean quan took center page saturday with a prevention plan that she hopes will reduce crime here. >> beyond the slogans. beyond the gimmicks. we really have to start talking about changing the city, block by block. and so i'm talking about 100

blocks. >> reporter: the plan zeros in on 100 blocks in east and west oakland, where data shows 90% of the city's homicides happen. >> this is one of the 100 blocks that will be targeted. the mayor's office says we will see more police here, more public works officials, and mentoring groups targeting children who live here. but some residents worry that is just lip service. >> let the mayor fire me. >> reporter: one oakland resident, a former foster child whose watched her peers drift into drugs and alcohol and prostitution says the city has done little to help. >> i really feel like it is really a publicity stunt for them to make it seem like they're trying to help us. >> reporter: of the hundreds of residents who showed up to hear quan's plan, a couple held signs calling her a liar and others charged her for the chief's surprise resignation last week. but quan has allies here. namely howard jordan, the interim police chove who hailed the plan as a step in the right direction. >> had is a multi-fas -- this is a multi-faceted approach. this is not just the police. the heart of it is trying to

build relationships with the community. >> reporter: the heart of quan's plan puts police squarely in the most dangerous blocks in the city and targeting truants to increase graduation rates and share data trends with agencies like highway patrol and the housing authority. but leery residents say with 84 homicides on the books this year and no permanent police chief, there are no guarantees that the plan will change anything. >> i just don't have any idea what is going to happen at this given time. >> reporter: christin ayers, cbs 5. well on the eve of the safety summit, oakland police are dealing with the city's 91st homicide of the year. one man was shot to death. and the second wounded. near 11th and willo yesterday about noon. no arrests or suspects have been announced. police fears prove true in the south bay. a deadly shooting at the funeral for a hell's angels member. and what investigators are focusing on tonight. and the upheaval begins for bay area students an the dangers kids will be facing next week in one major school district.

for police warned it might happen. and it did. gunfire at the san jose funeral for a murdered member of the local hell's angels chapter. one man, a member of the hell's angel club died. police say something about the crime scene at the oak hills cemetery doesn't add up. >> i can't get into details as to what they found that made them believe that it was tampered with. but they believe that it had been tampered with. >> so far, no word on a motive for any of the suspects. anne makovec reports on the ceremony before the shooting. >> an estimated 5,000 bikers from all over the country came to san jose today, to honor jeff jethro pettigrew the president of san jose's hell's angel. >> he was a human. and he had a heart of gold. >> he was a good man. he will be missed. >> awful to hear that he was gone. and for what?

i don't understand. >> reporter: he was gunned down at a casino in sparks, nevada, last month. police say the murderer was ernesto gonzalez, a member of the rival bike club in san jose. and gonzalez was arrested a week later in a car near ucsf. and mourners down-play a gang warfare motive. >> i think it is people looking in calling it a war but even amongst families have you disputes. >> reporter: some bikers admit there is inherent danger in some clubs. >> it is like a fear that, you know, all of us have. >> reporter: biker groups from all over the bay area, california, and the country, were represented here today. >> we're all friends. we're all here gathering. everybody is cool. we like to keep it that way. >> so did the san jose police. camped out on the corner. patrolling the event. the director of oak hill memorial park says this is the largest event that has gone on here in recent memory. >> what does it take to put on

an event of this size? >> a lot of patience and understanding. a lot of empathy that there are people who are different than our normal traditional type services. but we serve everybody. >> reporter: in san jose, anne makovec, cbs 5. well, days after a man opened fire at a hair salon in southern california, killing eight people, family members and close friends got to step inside the salon today. authorities say 41-year-old scott decry walked into the salon wednesday afternoon, armed with three handguns. police say his intent was to kill his wife, over a custody battle. >> i think just the emotions, they are just -- it is just where everyone is overwhelmed. trying to get rid of the visual. >> decry appeared in court yesterday. the district attorney says he will seek the death penalty. a private memorial service for steve jobs will be held tomorrow night at stanford

university. "the wall street journal" reports the invitations went out to industry big wigs and others closest to jobs. the former apple ceo died last week at the age of 56. a separate memorial for employees is planned for wednesday at the company's cupertino headquarters. checking other bay area headlines, the new bay bridge is not yet open for traffic. but it is being put to good use. emergency response teams from around the country are using it as a setting for operation urban shield. they are practicing how to handle scenarios involving mass casualties and hostage rescues and terrorist attacks. and a tough transition takes place next week for dozens of oakland students and teachers who will be relocated to other schools. schools including laura elementary, community united and bella vista are impacted. bella vista will lose both kindergarten teachers in the kid's move as part of a $1.4 million cost-cutting plan.

white. got to enjoy fine outdoor dining at golden gate park last night. white and big hats apparently. it is a tradition that started in paris more than 20 years ago. it has now spread to new york, chicago, and of course, apparently san francisco. there is one catch. guests here had to bring their own champagne and food. that's okay. it was still a beautiful night. kristy siefkin is here. and this is the time of the year when everybody should be getting the last picnic, the last moments outside. >> dining al fresco. >> it may prove to us that the no white after labor day rule is out of the window. it is gone. you can wear it into the fall. due need to be brown and air. you can still wear white. and it felt like summer time weather over the past couple of days. hot temperatures especially yesterday and already cooling down as we made our way into today. and more cooling for tomorrow. clouds definitely in the forecast, but the big change that we've seen this weekend, compared to the last week, a beautiful shot outside here, and a little clear as we're looking at the city skyline but we will continue to see the clouds surge

inland to make our way into tomorrow. and for tonight, most of are you going to see some cloudy conditions and that cloud cover is keeping the temperatures on the mild side. even going to see some low 60s out there. then tomorrow morning, starting out mostly cloudy. and most areas, and then we will make way to at least partly sunny conditions in the inland spots, and low 80s still, some pretty nice weather around the bay. pretty as well. some coastline. coastline though some cloud cover at least in the earlier parts of the bay. the future cast showing us the cloud cover that finally starts to -- well, we get a break, a little bit as we make our way into sunday although most of you will start to see some clouds for the first half of the day. and the high pressure, still in the picture and that's going to bring us another mild day. but it is this low pressure behind it, sliding through, that is going to cool things down temporarily and then we're going to see a little bump up in temperature for the start of your workweek. more changes though in store. we will get to that on the seven-day forecast. tomorrow though, all around northern california, looking pretty good and 79 is the high in sacramento. and reading just a degree cooler and cloudy condition, a little bit of patchy fog expected in the morning in eureka, and 64,

and fresno in the mid 80s. and yosemite in the mid-60s with a little bit of cloud cover there. highs in the bay area neighborhood by neighborhood look like this. 79 for campbell. 80 for morgan hill. fremont at 76 and we will also be in the mid-70s, in some other locations, of the east bay and getting some 80s in the far inland locations, brentwood, break that 80-degree mark and dublin 80 and 77 as a high in pleasant hill. and north bay, a lot of 70-degree readings as well. 77 in mill valley. petaluma, 77. 79 for sonoma. 73 for san leandro. so pretty nice day on tap tomorrow. get outside and enjoy it. although it will be warmer if you can sneak outside when you go back to work on monday, seeing more sunshine as we make our way into the start of the workweek. tuesday though we start to cool back down. the temperatures get closer to where we should be for this time of the year. a little bit of cloud cover in the middle of the week. and then lots of sunshine as we make our way into the end of the workweek. since we will have more 80s there. and the marathon tomorrow. it will be a cool start for

...stanford leads washington state 24-7, late in the thid cal lost earlier in the week but stanford and san jose looking pretty good. >> san jose state, how fun has it been for them? a couple of close ones. they could have actually two more wins. stanford leads washington state 24-7 late in the third quarter. the cardinals are going for the 14th straight win. which will be the longest streak in school history. last night at spartan stadium san jose state and hawaii combined for 12 turnovers. but all the spartans cared about is they got the w. matt falkner hit chandler jones for the game-winning touchdown in the final minute. san jose state is now 3-4. this season. tennessee head coach derrick dooly received quite a bit of criticism after the team lost the first two s.e.c. games. so his mother barbara did what any mom would do. she called into a local radio

station and defended her son. >> i just want you to be noise and fair and know that you probably got the greatest coach in the country and he is going to be there 25 years. >> unfortunately, mrs. . dooley may need to have the radio station on speed dial. tennessee gets blown out at home by top-ranked lsu. jarrett lee has a pair of touchdowns thrown. and the tigers have another convincing win. 38-7 is the final. 11th ranked michigan taking on the instate rivals, michigan state. denard robinson completes just 9 of 24 passes and runs for a season low 42 yards. isaiah lewis, he has a dagger as the spartens beat the wolverines. and the paul bunyan trophy stays in east lansing for the fourth straight year. wisconsin blew out indiana. they won all six games by more than 30 points. and oklahoma beat texas. and sraár handed georgia tech

the first loss. and the ohio state knocked off illinois. the raiders have not announced the plans for the tribute to al davis at the coliseum tomorrow but the players know the best way to honor him is to just keep on running. >> they will do the tribute for the old man and everything but he scared me, and my head, and i know what he wants. he wants a championship. and we can't be talking about it, and trying to go and win our division, and slip up now. >> mark davis will do his best to replace his father as the face of the franchise. last sunday in houston i spoke with the former raider great clem daniels who thinks mark is up for the challenge. >> i've been able to ascertain his knowledge of the game and his analytical ability in terms of players, young players abilities, and he is able to do that. i don't think we will -- in fact, i don't think we will see a dropoff. i think we will see an enhancement in terms of the progress of the raiders over the
