>> looking good. things improving. patchy fog at the coast and inside the bay. sweet looking weekend coming up. first elizabeth has traffic. >> muni reroutes, construction on church and market so the j- church line will have bus shuttles in place between 18th and market and outbound 22 fillmore buses are being rerouted. we'll have more coming up. >> thank you. oakland officials are telling protestors inspired by the "occupy wall street" movement that they must leave a plaza where they have been camping out. for the past 11 days, hundreds have been living in a tent city in frank ogawa plaza but now the city administrator has posted a notice to vacate on

the city's website t cites several reasons for the decision and among them, fire hazards from cooking with open flames and a density of flammable material, rising frequency of assaults, denial of access to emergency personnel, poor sanitation, health hazards from the worsening of an existing rodent problem and physical damage from graffiti and vandalism. a long list there. as we were talking, it was a case of impeccable timing. on the day of a statewide earthquake preparedness drill, two minor quake shook parts of the bay area. the usgs says the first was 4.0 under the uc-berkeley campus at 2:31 yesterday afternoon and almost six hours later a 3.8 aftershock hit east of the campus. no reports of significant injuries or damage. people on the uc-berkeley campus just took it in stride.

helping the libyan rebels. tara mergener has more reaction to the dramatic events there. >> reporter: outside the white house, dozens of libyan americans celebrated the death of muammar qaddafi into the night. [ screaming ] >> reporter: erupting into chants and waving american and libyan flags young and old alike marked a turning point in their nation's history. across the world -- [ more screaming ] >> reporter: -- thousands took to the streets in libya as fireworks lit up the night sky. this video shows qaddafi's final moments alive. rebel forces captured and shot him thursday as he tried to escape his hometown of sirte. in pakistan this morning, secretary of state hillary clinton pledged full u.s. support for a new libyan government. >> the death of colonel qaddafi has brought to a close, uhm, a very unfortunate chapter libya's history. but it also marks the start of

a new era for the libyan people. >> reporter: nato will meet this morning to decide when and how to end its military operation in libya. for the past seven months allied forces have tried to help revolution ris drive out qaddafi loyalists. president obama called it a momentous day for libyans but acknowledged the country must now build a democracy from scratch. >> there will be difficult days ahead. but the united states together with the international community is committed to the libyan people. >> reporter: tomorrow libya's transitional leaders are expected to formally announce the country's liberation and plans for a democratic election. tara mergener for cbs news, washington. libyan here's in the bay area are planning to celebrate qaddafi's death this weekend. some of them gathered last night though at a middle eastern restaurant in fremont to wave flags and pray together. they were overjoyed to hear the news that qaddafi was gone.

>> i was screaming. i was happy. my children were sleeping and then they said, is qaddafi dead? and i said yes, and they were laughing and so happy. some were persecuted by him. they call his death 42 years overdue. another rejection for president obama in the u.s. senate. a republican filibuster killed a bill aimed at helping state and local governments avoid laying off teachers and firefighters. this was part of the president's larger jobs package that was recently also rejected. mr. obama is expected to continue to try to get other parts of the package approved. defense attorneys for conrad murray are expected to open their case today in los angeles. the former personal physician for michael jackson is accused of involuntary manslaughter in the singer's dead. the defense reportedly will call around 15 witnesses.

they will try to cast doubt on the accusation that dr. murray gave jackson a lethal dose of a powerful sedative. the weekend may be a warmup. >> you betcha. we want to have a great wing, grace. happy friday, folks. if you are heading out the door, we are looking at a couple of patches of fog some thicker in the napa and santa rosa area but it is really less than what we have seen over the past couple of days so i think we're looking at great weather come our way as high pressure now beginning to build in getting the sense of an offshore wind trying to develop. so that means we're in for some great weather over the weekend. right now 51 from fog in napa, 52 also foggy, 63 in mountain view. toward the afternoon hours, the temperatures will be warming up into the 70s, maybe low 80s well inland even in san francisco maybe about 68 degrees some sunshine out in pacifica by the afternoon and about 64 degrees but here's the

real good story. we're looking at more sunshine building in and that means some beautiful weather as we head through the weekend. temperatures soaring up into the mid-80s in the warmest spots on saturday and sunday. maybe some slight cooling come monday before warming up one more time as we head toward the middle of next week. let's check your traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you. overall, big picture we're not doing too bad. we have had a busy couple mornings here in traffic and so far, so good "friday light" as we love to say around here. here's a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see traffic cruising towards the pay gates. you may find a little upper deck roadwork still probably lower deck roadwork as you approach treasure island but nothing that should slow you down. if it hasn't been picked up already, it will be picked up by about 5:00 this morning. elsewhere the golden gate bridge, looking good here. i don't think they have done the lane change yet. they should any minute. this is our big issue this morning. it's for muni riders. muni reroute they are doing some construction add church

the cancer that killed him w steve jobs refused early potentially life-saving surgery on cancer that killed him a few weeks ago according to biographer walter isakson. he explains what apple's cofounder tried to do about that disease during a "60 minutes" interview. >> then they do a biopsy and they are very emotional, they say this is good, it's one of those slow going 5% of pancreatic cancer that can actually be cured but steve jobs doesn't do it right away. he tried to treat it with diet, spiritualists, various ways of doing it macrobioticly. he didn't get the operation. >> why not? >> he said i didn't want my body to be opened. i didn't want to be violated in that way. he is regretful about it. and his wife is a very solid decent person understood it but

said no, no the body is there to serve the spirit. you should get this operated on. and soon, everybody is telling him quit trying to treat it with all these roots and vegetables and things. just get operated on but he does it nine months later. >> too late? >> well, one assumes it's too late because by the time they operate on him, they notice that it has spread to the tissues around the pancreas. >> how could such a smart man do such a stupid thing? >> you know, i think that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don't want something to exist, you can have magical thinking and it worked for him in the past. he regrets it. >> you can see the full interview sunday night at 7:00 on cbs 5. 4:43. a hacker attack on the nasdaq was apparently more damaging than previously believed. sources are telling reuters that the hackers installed malicious software that allowed them to spy on the directors of publicly held companies.

it's not known what information may have been stolen after last year's cyberattack. a berkeley doctor is using some specially designed suitcases to shed light on healthcare problems in third world nations. dr. lawrence staco was frustrated with circumstances in countries like nigeria where power outages are common. with no electricity, medical procedures are often postponed or done by candlelight and gas lamps. so the doctor and her husband developed the we can care solar suitcase that has state-of-the- art custom solar panels that charge a battery which in turn can power two lights for days. >> it was just inconceivable to me that someone could be a physician doing surgery and the lights could go out. i don't know how people could continue. >> now, that clever idea has been recognized with a major humanitarian award. we care solar one of the health award in santa clara last night. the $50,000 prize will allow we

white house. republican presidential candidate her a rasmussen poll new numbers out in the gop contest for the white house. republican presidential candidate herman cain is topping a rasmussen poll in iowa. 28% of potential caucus-goers say they would pick the businessmen. that's the third time this month a poll in the state put him at the top. massachusetts governor mitt romney had 21% of the support followed by texas congressman ron paul with 10%. republican presidential hopeful michele bachmann stumped for support here in the bay area. this is her second visit in a little more than a month. yesterday's appearance at the commonwealth club in san francisco was sold out. she detailed her ideas on how

to fix america's financial future and pulled no punches when slamming the current administration. >> but when government gets in the business of blindly choosing you winners and losers as in the case of solyndras of this administration, then it becomes our cash for government's clunkers and worse american competitiveness in the world becomes badly damaged. that's the casualty. >> last month bachmann spoke at private home in marin for about 150 supporters who paid $100 to hear her speak. since then the minnesota congresswoman has struggled in the polls. it's friday. we have to check the weather, plan our weekend. we turn to mr. lawrence karnow just a moment yeah. , you know, lawrence karnow. >> yeah. we are going to get things right for the weekend as high pressure is building in nicely. it's going to set up just right so we'll see offshore winds.

already seeing less fog around the bay area today. so we are looking at a warmer weekend around the bay area. if you are heading out the door we have patchy fog, some of that thick. a few clouds in the bay. patchy fog and by the afternoon a bit of sunshine. 49 degrees and foggy in santa rosa. looks like this ridge is just beginning to sneak in and it's going to build throughout the weekend. as it amplifies here that will crank up the temperatures also going to see those offshore winds so that means lots of sunshine even out at the coastline looking good. as we head through the dade you see things clear out at the beaches so some sunshine even out along the coastline and for the beginning of your weekend.

looking like the coast is clear, as well. today not a bad start. 78 this afternoon in morgan hill, 73 san mateo, 64 degrees and sunshine in the afternoon in pacifica. 80s in brentwood and antioch, 81 fairfield and 79 degrees in the napa valley. inside the bay lots of sunshine coming our way, 72 comfortable in oakland 68 in san francisco and 79 almost 80 degrees this afternoon in santa rosa. lots of sunshine, temperatures in the mid-80s in the warmest spots, slight cooling monday with a weak disturbance coming by but toward the middle of the next week lots of sunshine on the way. maybe stronger offshore winds might have to start worrying about fire danger next week. but right now the weekend looks good and folks should enjoy.

not many weekends like this. >> elizabeth, how's traffic? >> earthquake and fire weather. >> sunshine, too. typical commute starting so far for friday. we have this full freeway closure in effect through pittsburg eastbound lanes of 4 shut down at loveridge until about 5:30 this morning. you can see some slowing on our sensors there. westbound traffic though so far gets by just fine. and the golden gate bridge for a while just one northbound lane was open but it looks like they are reconfiguring the lanes right now. normal across the span into san francisco from marin county so far, so good across the deck. san mateo bridge, other bridges fine. westbound 92 the commute direction, and coming off of the high-rise toward hayward things look great. now, there is some roadwork on

the nimitz. you will find it through oakland near overstock.com coliseum. you will find various lanes blocked between 980 and fruitvale and travel south headlights are southbound more lanes blocked past winton closer towards hayward. in the south bay a number of incidents. there is roadwork on various connector ramps on 101, highway 58 near blossom hill but out of downtown things look great on 280. so overall not a bad start. back to you. >> thank you. score one for the cell phone industry. san francisco is delaying a new law by order of a judge. it would have required cell phone retailers to hang up signs like this disclosing information about possible radiation risks. the judge is telling the city to postpone next week's implementation until he makes a decision. the law would force cell phone stores to place a warning on

the wall and literature with a purchase explaining how to limit potentially hazardous rf frequencies from your cell phone. the city says its first amendment rights -- the industry says its first amendment rights are being violated. >> the first amendment has basic protection in it where you can't force people it say things that they don't believe unless there's a compelling public interest. >> the long question is a watered down version of an original proposal that would have forced stores to list the radiation level given off by each phone. it's a sign of the times. thousands of uninsured and under insured people waited hours in line for free medical treatment at a clinic in los angeles. as sandra hughes reports, some people have gone without treatment for years. >> reporter: marvin young hasn't been to a dentist in 15 years. he tried to get into the annual free clinic in los angeles for the last two. this year wasn't taking any chances. >> i started four days ago i camped out. >> reporter: about 60% of the

people coming need dental care many here because the state will no longer pay for it. >> it's really hard. i'm in pain. >> reporter: 3200 dentists, doctors and eye specialists are volunteering their time to offer a variety of medical services. >> broke so i need it. >> reporter: this dentist is dog a tooth extraction every 15 minutes. >> a lot of people are in need of healthcare and can't afford it. so you would be surprised. >> reporter: event organizers say they expect to treat 1200 patients adults and children per day over the course of the next four days making this one of the largest free medical clinics in the nation. critics say this kind of one- time care doesn't help those with chronic conditions. so this years patients will be directed to a volunteer clinic for follow-up. >> the patient needs an appointment card, his or her record is then faxed or emailed to the receiving facility and we close that link. >> reporter: marvin young got two fillings and a fremont for his back injury. >> so this is a helping hand up
