and so did the raiders. >> maybe before that. but the weather was fantastic, couldn't be better. we had a lot of sunshine out there today. we are going to notice some differences. fog moved in along the coastline. onshore breeze kicking in. 77 antioch, 76 santa rosa, 71 degrees in san francisco. more on the weather coming up. right now, let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> thank you. so far doing well across the bay area. roadwork on the lower deck of the bay bridge. we have a full freeway closure in pittsburg. we'll have more details on those stories in a few minutes. rescue workers in turkey are searching for survivors from sunday's massive earthquake. >> today four people were rescued from the rubble after one man called for help using his cell phone the 7.2 quake hit the eastern part of the country. more than 200 people are dead. susan mcginnis has an update on

the rescue effort. reporter: rescue crews pulled this man out alive from a collapsed building in eastern turkey this morning after desperately looking for any sign of life. a 7.2 quake shook the remote reasonable sunday flattening buildings and sending panicked residents into streets. [ screaming ] >> reporter: hundreds are confirmed dead, but with an unknown number of people still trapped beneath the rubble, officials fear the death toll could reach 1,000. this man says the situation is bad. many friends still strapped under rubble, haven't heard from any of them. one victim pinned under piles of concrete was this young boy. emergency crews worked through the night trying to free him. shortly after the quake, president obama released a statement pledging u.s. assistance while turkey's prime minister says he is grateful for the offer, so far he has turned down any help from other nation. the prime minister got a firsthand look at the damage sunday and met with some of the

injured at a local hospital. on the streets, soldiers gave meals to survivors. many residents spent the night near fires trying to stay warm. aid workers have already we gun setting up tents, field hospitals and kitchens to help thousands left homeless. susan mcginnis for cbs news, washington. the woman evacuated from the south pole recently is expected to pass through san francisco today. the engineer is believed to have suffered a stroke while working at the national science foundation's research station at the south pole. she arrived in australia last night and now she is flying to johns hopkins hospital in baltimore. the search for a missing kayaker in the san francisco bay is now a recovery mission. 55-year-old thomas gregoire disappeared near pier 80 yesterday afternoon. a witness says he got caught in the wake of a tugboat and his kayak capsized. the coast guard searched into the night but they say it's

unlikely the man will be found alive. the young woman charged with the murder of missing nursing student michelle lay is scheduled to enter a plea this morning. giselle esteban has been under arrest for six weeks but court appearances have been delayed because of her pregnancy. kristy seifkin at the hall of justice live now in hayward. >> reporter: good morning. it's the first time that giselle esteban is appearing in court for more than a month and a half since she was arrested in the murder for michelle le. she is several months pregnant and a doctor has argued that even though she hasn't had a medical emergency or needed to be hospitalized for her pregnancy, he said she has just been too weak to be transported from the jail in dublin to the courthouse here in hayward. now, when esteban was arrested about a month and a half ago for murdering michelle le, the body hasn't been found yet. but michelle le disappeared from the kaiser in hayward on

the 27th of may. police turned to giselle as a suspect. she was a high school friend of michelle's and it was video surveillance footage that really led them to pursue her. they saw she was present in the kaiser parking lot at the time that michelle disappeared. investigators later found evidence that esteban had been in le's car and dna evidence found additionally cell found records tied esteban to the death. the body was found. this morning she is expected to enter a plea. her defense attorney will ask that she be granted bail. she has been held in jail without bail this entire time and because of her condition, the attorney wants her out of jail as soon as possible. >> thank you. 4:35. road rage is suspected in a collision that killed a motorcyclist and shut down an

east bay freeway. 31-year-old eddie hall from oakland is held for suspicion of murder and felony hit-and- run. hall has a clean record. witnesses tell police though the paratransit van driver intentionally swerved into a group of motorcyclists on interstate 580 in oakland. the van kept going dragging the victim's motorcycle with it. >> his motorcycle was dragged. in terms of him being dragged, that's not necessarily the information i have at this point. we know he was hit by a car but not necessarily being dragged. we are investigating if this was an accident or intentional. >> video from the scene on saturday shows a group of motorcyclists moving along the shoulder of the freeway where traffic was stopped for the investigation. a hells angels representative tell the "chronicle" the van driver was enraged because he believed the motorcyclist known as george had cut him off. san jose police are staying tight-lipped about their 7th officer-involved shooting of

the year. it happened yesterday morning at the extended stay hotel on east brokaw road. police say the man was armed with a gun and made a threatening gesture. officers shot him several times but he is expected to recover. three of the suspects shot by police this year have died. challengers to interim san francisco mayor ed lee accuse his campaign of cheating. some home video appears to show lee supporters placing stencils over absentee ballots so voters could only mark the spot for lee. some witness say they saw some workers even marking in the ballots themselves. lee says the people in the video do not work for him and that he has already told them to stop. >> i think it's moronic for them to be doing things that would interfere with people's -- individuals' rights to vote. i don't want anything to do with folks that have been violating the law. that's nothing to do with my

campaign. my campaign is clean. it's 100% compliant. >> seven other candidates have said "we believe federal observers and election monitors are immediately warranted." district attorney is investigating these allegations. today is the last chance to register to vote in san francisco's municipal election on november 8. the department of elections will accept registration forms in person until 8:00 tonight. fill out the form at city hall or download it and put it in the mail as long as it is postmarked today. 4:38. boy, what a weekend. >> oh. the warm weather in the city, there is nothing like it. it looks like it's going to continue at least for a little while. >> let's kick it over to lawrence karnow. happy monday. >> we have changes in the weather today. fog and low clouds along the coast now, cooler temperatures en route for the bay area so not the beach day like over the weekend. still, it's not going to be bad. you see those clouds beginning to gather there. a few high clouds also making

their way across our skies. but it looks like things going to be changing a bit today as we are seeing a sea breeze kicking in carrying with it the low clouds and fog. seeing some of that into pacifica at 55 degrees. part of san francisco now seeing fog at 6 1. you have some high clouds towards san jose. still, looks like by the afternoon, not bad temperatures, just not as warm as over the weekend. 79 degrees and sunshine into livermore, 76 in san jose. out toward the coastline, yeah, it's going to be cooler into the 60s out at the beaches, maybe 71 in san francisco. but the next couple of days these temperatures are going to continue to drop off a bit in through tomorrow a few more clouds on the way and then we may get the offshore wind going again toward wednesday, thursday and friday of this next week. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. we'll go right out to eastbound highway 4 in pittsburg. we don't have a full freeway closure. we have one lane blocked. so a little different than typical. one lane closed left lane closed eastbound 4 at bailey road until 1:00 maybe wrapping

month-long civil war. crowds turned out in "martyrs square" in tripoli and other areas of the city. this thousands of libyans are celebrating the end of the war. thousands turned out in tripoli and other areas of the city following a declaration yesterday by libya's transitional leader that the entire country is now liberated. but there are still some questions about the capture and death of muammar qaddafi. specifically, how he died. there's some thought that he may have been killed execution- style as opposed to being killed in crossfire. also, there are questions about who killed him. president obama is just hours away from arriving in california. he will attend two fundraisers

in los angeles and appear on the jay leno show. tomorrow morning he will be in san francisco for another fundraiser at the "w" hotel. 200 guests will pay $7,000 each to attend. this is the president's third visit to the bay area in six months. it is 4:44. in san jose, police are back out at the "occupy" protests outside city hall. we have some live pictures of the gathering and our cameras have captured several people being cuffed within the past hour in san jose. over the weekend, two people were arrested and another person was cited saturday morning for catching out there. this morning, hundreds of bay area clergy and others will march in solidarity with the "occupy" movement in san francisco. it starts at 10:30 at justin herman plaza and head up market street. protestors and campers have been in the plaza now, police did bust up the camp once but recently they have been mainly

standing by and watching. >> we've stated very clearly that their first amendment rights just like they have been expressing it is going to be enforced and we through to happen, but at the same time we have drawn lines. >> some of the merchants there who offer items for sale on the other side of the plaza are concerned that the encampment will continue to grow and affect their businesses. the city's public works department has been trying to kept that plaza clean though. if you live in antioch there is a chance you may smell natural gas. pg&e plans to vent gas from sections of a pipe in antioch today that will send the smell of gas into the air but not to worry. bad news for gas prices. the downward trend is over. in the past couple of weeks, the average price for a gallon of regular has gone up nearly 5 cents. that's according to the lundberg survey. the national average for a gavel regular is at $3.47. it's much higher in the bay area. in san jose and oakland, it's

3.84. in san francisco it's 3.93. a red-tailed hawk shot with a nail gun is recovering this morning after days of trying to catch it. they finally got him saturday night at the san francisco botanical gardens. that hawk had been spotted at golden gate park with a nail through its head. you may remember this picture. but a member of wild rescue says they got it out of his head. >> how do you catch a hawk? >> and how do you get a nail out of the head without him picking you? >> how do you -- i don't know how they caught him. a new stage in the coverry of congresswoman gabrielle giffords -- in the recovery of congresswoman gabrielle giffords. the special treatment starting today. a sneak peek at the biography of steve jobs out today and the one thing he wanted to conquer after his

steve jobs, that's the title of the biography of the late apple cofound their goes on sale today. the author is former cnn chairman walter isaacson. his book is based on 40 inches views with jobs over two years. on "60 minutes," he said after jobs got sick he wanted to focus on apple products iphone and ipad. >> he would have loved to have conquered television, make an easy-to-use television set so he had those things -- but he started focusing on his family again, as well. and it was a painful brutal struggle. and he would talk often to me

about the pain. >> jobs did not read the biography before he died earlier this month. soon the public will get a look at the private company- wide memorial service that apple held for jobs. the company will post it on its website. congresswoman gabrielle giffords is in north carolina this morning for intensive therapy. her office says it's part of her recovery after getting shot in the head in a mass shooting in tucson this year. her therapy session, which starts today, is going on for two weeks. giffords has made what doctors call a miraculous recovery since that supermarket shooting which left six people dead. janet jackson is cutting her concert tour in australia short. she is heading back to the u.s. to support her family as the trial of the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in michael jackson's death nears its end. dr. conrad murray is accused of

giving jackson a lethal dose of propofol and other sedatives. the trial could go to the jury this week. after a warm weekend, we have a change. >> a little bit of a change. think we have more details on that from lawrence. but we are still going to have warm temperatures. >> cooler at the coast and the beaches. still a decent day. temperatures in the 50s and 60s in most parts of the bay area. this afternoon, we are still looking at 60s at the beaches. inside the bay plenty of temperatures into the 70s but not quite as warm. and mild to warm temperatures inland in the 70s and the possibility of some low 80s. but we have some changes a few high clouds making their way up from the south. weak disturbance to the south of us bringing high clouds but low clouds and the sea breeze will help cool down the

temperatures over the next couple of days. deepening marine layer and more of a sea breeze. ones it moves by high pressure builds in and we'll likely see an offshore wind kicking in toward the middle of the week so the temperatures are going to warm up. our futurecast model shows the fog and low clouds really developing out toward the coastline as we head toward the afternoon. so not a real banner beach day if you have plans to head in that direction, you might need a light sweater. still, plenty of sunshine inside the bay and the valleys except for high clouds moving in overhead and then looks like for tomorrow a few more low clouds and fog probably a little cooler as we head through the day tomorrow, as well. temperatures not all that bad pretty comfortable in most spots, 76 degrees, sunshine into san jose, 75 in palo alto, about 66 degrees with some patchy fog into pacifica and 74 degrees in hayward. east bay numbers up into the 70s, maybe some low 80s into pleasanton, about 78 close to 80 in livermore today. about 77 in brentwood. and about 76 in walnut creek.

inside the bay, instead of an offshore wind sea breeze kicking in keeping the temperatures cooler. 72 degrees in berkeley. next couple of days the temperature will drop off with a few more clouds in the skies but toward wednesday, that offshore wind begins to develop. the temperatures look like they will start to warm right back up. doesn't like like it will be a major heat wave but nice weather and of course offshore winds clear things to the coast as we head to the middle and end of the week. >> thank you. let's find out what's traffic doing on this monday. elizabeth? >> what's cooking in traffic? not a whole lot which is good news if you are about to head out. not a lot going on except overnight roadwork and a lot of it's been wrapped up a little ahead of schedule. sensors in the south bay, coming out of downtown in the northbound lanes of 280, you are cruising this morning. my producer just checked in with caltrans and apparently that ramp northbound 101 to

northbound 85, that ramp has been reopened ahead of schedule so now there is really no issue this morning coming into san jose. overnight roadwork between marsh and university watch out for that. that was scheduled to wrap up at 5:00 this morning. your bridges, the san mateo bridge, here's live peak this. camera is past the toll plaza westbound 92 and if we make this screen bigger you can see your drive time looks great out of hayward. 880 to 101 in the peninsula, other bridges quiet, as well. we have overnight roadwork along the nimitz, 880 usually between about high street and 980. not seeing anything like that out there this morning. so now all lanes are open. this is live look near the coliseum but it should be a nice drive all the way towards downtown. in fact your drive time is 15 minutes right now between 238 and the macarthur maze. and westbound traffic on 580 we usually are one of the first

spots to back up so far in the clear taking you from the altamont pass towards 680 and the dublin interchange. back to you. >> thank you. it is 4:55 now. being exposed to bpa before birth apparently has an impact on girls' behavior when they're 3. harvard researchers found young girls scored worse on behavior tests if their mothers had high levels of bpa during the pregnancy. issues include anxiety, hyperactivity in the girls. boys don't seem to be affected. bpa is found in plastic bottles and food can coatings. most people aren't reading nutrition labels. only about a third of the people in a survey said they look at labels. i just can't read 'em. of those, only 9% actually looked at calories. why only about 1% read the entire label. >> i'm surprised to hear that. carlos santana is here in the bay area and is just a few
