actually wimped out and put on my heater. >> i didn't. >> i had the heater cranked up. >> yeah. >> may have to crank that really up over the weekend as we'll see much colder temperatures especially later on tonight into early tomorrow morning. rainfall in parts of the bay area sagging further south. it's coming down pretty good. highway 101 seeing pretty good rain in spots. it's spotty but it's pushing further south so throughout the morning the rain will continue to wind down. we'll dry out mid-morning and a little sunshine as we get into the middle of the day and looks like the rain will be done by then. chilly in spots. 30s in the north bay. 40s and 50s with showers continuing to the south.

this afternoon it will be cool and brisk as a lot of cold air is making its way out of gulf of alaska, highs in the 50s and 60s. winds behind the front, we'll feel chilly around the bay area. next couple of days, things cool off quite a bit and especially overnight. frosty conditions, another storm saturday night. >> i guess we were due. >> yeah. >> all right. thank you. 4:32 now. it was 5 hours and a whole lot of yelling. >> they were loud. a meeting about "occupy" oakland turned into "occupy" outrage before city council last night. anne makovec is in oakland where hundreds showed up last night and they weren't happy, were they? >> reporter: no. there was infighting amongst the protestors, also protestors versus the city council. the city council versus the chamber of commerce. really, that five-hour city council meeting got chaotic last night >> you know what? if you keep yelling, i will ask

you to leave. >> reporter: that is city council president larry reid trying to keep things under control. this is all after "occupy" oakland held a press conference hoping to distance themselves from the anarchist that is vandalized the city on wednesday night. then at the council meeting they complained that the city spent at least a million dollars raiding their encampment last week. but it was clear not even the demonstrators themselves are in agreement. >> blood is shed when we do nothing. so blood will be shed when we do something. windows are broken when nothing's done. >> if you have a tent here, up root your tent and leave. >> reporter: the city council was discussing a resolution by nancy nadel that would have called for citywide support of "occupy oakland." the council was split so that decision was tabled for two weeks. the question is what will happen with this encampment during that time. now, "occupy" is holding a meeting tonight to discuss what their next steps will be.

as you guys know, we just heard from lawrence the weather report it's not really good camping weather right now but that's not dwindling the crowd. the city estimated that there's 165 tents here right now. >> we were going to ask if the weather trimmed them down a bit but sounds like not at all. is it quiet there, i would imagine at 0:dark:400? >> reporter: 4:30 people are sleeping although some run and there's always so-called guards around the camp that are up, some are up. they have their blanket and maybe there's some snuggling going on over there. i'm not sure. >> we'll leave it at that. anne makovec life in rainy oakland. thanks. businesses are back to counting their losses this morning. crews power washed graffiti at the bank of america. this is near lake merritt. windows were broken there and at businesses around frank ogawa plaza. the oakland chamber of commerce says all this negative

attention that the protests have generated is hurting business recruitment for the city. 4:34 now. this morning "occupy" movement in san jose is getting a strong show of support from a member of the 1%. mike fox senior a prominent businessman in the city will announce today he is pulling all of his money from his beer distribution business and personal accounts out of bank of america. that comes out to about $8 million. fox is a member of the faith- based group people acting in community together or pact. >> it's a very personal thing. so people don't need to make this big public statement but do it. and you know what? they are doing it. >> fox says by divesting those millions from the bank of america, it will take about 6 months and cost him about $30,000. your opportunity to do the same is coming up this weekend. the "occupy" movement has designated tomorrow as national

bank transfer day. protestors are asking everyone angry about high fees to take their money out of big banks and transfer it to credit unions. >> i really don't like using banks much anymore anyway, a lot of bureaucracy, red tape. >> it makes me not want to bank with those banks that charge additional fees. >> president of the california banking association says the protestors have it all wrong actually. in addition to philanthropy, banks pay taxes, credit units don't and a mass transfer of a lot of money could mean a loss of $8 billion over the next five years. governor jerry brown is ready to send pink slips to undercover agents who actually protected him and his wife. about 200 positions on elite task forces are in jeopardy. and one agent who wants to remain anonymous told cbs 5 that a mexican drug cartel threatened to kill brown when he was attorney general so security worked around the clock to protect his family. >> it's not a slap in the face

but it's ironic. on the one hand you're there to protect him and his family and on the other hand, you're going to get cut. >> at the time governor brown was going after mexican grow operations. the agent said the security operation went on for three months. san francisco's public defender is releasing some new video he says shows misconduct by police officers. jeff adachi released this youtube video yesterday. he says it shows officers conducting warrantless searches and using excessive force in the. in this video officers they retained a richmond merchant in august and claims officers told personal property and money in five cases. complaints have been filed against those officers. 4:37 now. dr. conrad murray's fate in the hands of the jury. he is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of michael jackson. closing arguments wrapped up yesterday. l.a. county coroner ruled that jackson died of propofol

intoxication back in 2009. prosecutors say murray gave propofol iv drip to jackson. the defense argues the singer overdosed himself. if convicted murray could face four years in prison. we have a live report from l.a. coming up later in the show. g20 summit in france wraps up today after intense talks about greece and europe's big debt crisis. today the world leaders are work on ways to help europe without making their own money troubles worse. owner of the los angeles dodgers. new court documents are shedding some more light on frank mccourt the owner of the l.a. dodgers. he must pay his former wife $131 million by april all part of their divorce settlement. mccourt and major league baseball reached an agreement this week to sell the ballclub. the dodgers filed for bankruptcy protection back in june. nba players and owners return to the negotiating table tomorrow. if a deal isn't reached at that time, more games are likely to be cancelled. all november games have already been scratched. the issue is how to divide league revenue, all about money. players want 52% of the profits and the owners aren't budging. you get those little e- mails? today groupon is going public with a pricier ipo. a spokesman says it is planning to price its ipo at $20 a share. just two weeks ago the daily deal site set a price range about $16 to $18. so the new price/value would

make groupon the biggest technology ipo since google which was bag in 2004. amd is laying off 10% of its workforce, 1400 people. the company makes microprocessors for pcs but struggled with manufacturing delays and competition from smart phones and tablets. bart has a surplus so it is considering lowering fares. among the ideas, free trips for customers who use bart more than 40 times a month. cheaper rides during off-peak times and bigger clipper card discounts. travel analysts are already offering thanksgiving weekend predictions even before the halloween candy runs out. lawrence is pushing a bag around the newsroom right now. [ laughter ] >> the air transport association of america says 37,000 fewer americans per day will travel by air between november 18 and the 29th over the holiday. that's a 2% drop from last year

and 12% drop from the peak back in 2006. this stuff is crazy here. a youtube sensation holds a world record involving moving cars and the way to avoid them. look at this! this is the fastest human to jump over three moving cars. now he is being featured on a history channel show called super humans. you can see y experts say his background in gymnastics and his spatial awareness helps him plus apparently you have to be a little crazy to try this. >> crazy. >> don't think you can do it? i don't want to put anyone down. everybody has their own abilities. i just found mine. >> apparently. quite an ability there. he says a bruce lee film inspired him to start flipping and jumping when he was 5. apparently still flipping today. >> how do you get good at that? where do you practice? hey mom. why don't you spark up the chevy.

she was shot in the head. but she managed to survive thanks to her helmet. just minutes before the suspect had stormed the carson city ihop and opened fire on patrons in there. three national guard members and another person died. some dramatic video of federal police stopping suspected smugglers in brazil. the bad guys were ready to fly away with a load of notebooks and electronic surveillance gear but police crashed into the plane and stopped it on the runway. it was a move that they had worked on -- they crashed into the wing of it. five suspects are now in jail. it is the 12th smuggler plane police have caught in five years but the first they have taken down like this. airfares are going up in time for the holidays. u.s. airways raised fairs and

others will follow suit. jetblue is refunding passengers of those five flights who were all stranded on the plane up to eight hours on the tarmac at hartford saturday at bradley international airport. that's near hartford. it was during the big snowstorm over the weekend. a spokesman says passengers were told then they will get a full refund plus a roundtrip voucher for future flights to kind of soften the blow a little bit. >> least they could do. >> money hours of now what. rain in the bay area means a whole lot of snow in the sierra. >> resorts opening in time for the weekend. boreal is the first to open this season so they got as much as eight inches of snow falling in elevations above 3,000 feet overnight. fresh powder. a second storm will hit tomorrow. skiers and borders, you're in business. lawrence, are you a big skier? >> no, i'm more of a snowball. i heard grace is fantastic.

>> snowball? >> i roll down the hill when i try to ski. if you want to do it we are seeing more snow for the sierra nevada. chains on 80. but looks like things will work out well. we are going to catch a break in the stormy weather. right now rain here in the bay area but it's sliding south now. you can see the showers but you also notice some of those showers you have some heavier amounts. the yellows there embedded in the system as it makes its way further to the south this morning in toward palo alto and redwood city and fremont, san jose. you're seeing that. these showers will continue to drag through the south throughout the morning hours and then as we head in toward the afternoon, things begin to dry out. so stepping outside today, yup, possibly leftover showers this morning temperatures chilly especially in the north bay where they have already begun to dry out. numbers there in the 30s. by the afternoon, it is going to be one of those cool brisk days outside. 50s and 60s, probably going to see a breeze though so it is going to feel even cooler than that. this low will continue to drag to the south and that will pull with it all the storm clouds so we are going to dry things out through the middle of the

morning so by the afternoon we'll see some clouds and sunshine mixed in. but it should be dry. overnight tonight, though, goingget cold. probably going to see frost showing up in the valleys locally and then we have another storm coming our way. it looks like by saturday evening another one drops in and brings more rain overnight saturday night. so the storm system on our computer models moves out. toward the afternoon things dry out but then looking toward saturday looks like we are going to see those clouds gathering again late in the day. and then by saturday night a chance of rainfall returns to the bay area. that will continue to move through to leave a couple of leftover showers on sunday morning. and then it looks like the weather is going to improve after that. but bundle up today, it is going to be cool and keep that jacket with you. a few showers this mornings 50s and 60s. by the afternoon, we should dry things out nicely though and then into the first part of saturday, it's looking good. but by saturday night into sunday, it looks like we have a few more showers coming in our direction.

then a break. late next week more rain so yes, that storm door is finally open!! >> that's good though. because it means more snow. >> exactly. you're loving that. >> is that what we'll have until april? >> yeah. we'll be busy. >> i forgot. i haven't been home for a while. traffic-wise kick it over to elizabeth. the roads are a little slick. >> they are. we are getting numerous little fender-benders happening especially on the on- and off- ramps. actually we have one report of flooding blocking a lane, it is in livermore. flooding westbound 580 approaching north livermore avenue. so be careful. we'll update you on mass transit if you don't feel like driving into work this morning. first a check of the bridges. san mateo bridge upper right side of the screen you notice caltrans has their warning sign showing you that you should use reduced speeds today. it's slippery out there. so this is a live look at westbound 92. harder to see this morning than

usual. but overall your drive time not too bad still 13 minutes out of hayward towards foster city and the peninsula. and if you are heading eastbound 92 that looks okay approaching the high-rise and heading towards the east bay. the golden gate bridge southbound 101 you can see it is definitely slick across the span this morning. they are doing some roadwork according to caltrans through novato so watch out for various lanes blocked. according to caltrans that should wrap up by about 5:00. this is one of the fender- benders i'm talking about. i want to mention this one it's in a big commute spot. westbound 24 near the central lafayette exit. there is an accident there just reported. police are on scene as well as chp. it is blocking one lane. so minor slowing there approaching that scene but again, this is just one of the many fender-benders that we are seeing across the bay area. there was another one reported in the macarthur maze that's now completely gone. and here's a live look quick look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see no big delays so far heading into san francisco. that's traffic and weather. back to you. >> thank you. it is not quite the fountain of youth but this

morning there's a big step in slowing or halting aging. researchers figured out how to kill off old cells that stopped work. they are called zombie cells and they pile up as we age. then they secrete toxins that damage surrounding tissue contributing to the aging process. >> what these researchers did is figure out a way to destroy those cells in young mice blunting the aging process. >> scientists hope the discovery will lead to the investment anti-aging drugs that fend off conditions that become more common with age like cataracts and cancer. 4:55. healthy kids get better grades. a new study shows they can improve performance in the classroom if they lose weight. researchers discovered cognitive performance declined in kids with a higher body mass. turns out all that extra weight also increases the risk of sleep breathing disorder

affecting a child's ability to perform complex mental tasks. dungeness crab season about to begin along the northern coast. a record harvest last season. recreational fishermen can start setting traps at midnight tonight. a new law limits the number of traps allowed per boat. the commercial season in our area begins november 15. what's your idea of the scariest thing you could ever encounter on the open water? >> you probably are thinking it's a shark, right? wrong. a surfer and kayakers were paddling just off the coast of santa cruz when it happened. wait for it. right there. holy molely. a pair of humpback whales burst through the surface. their mouths wide open. they are hunting for fish. apparently anchovies are here. those whales are the size of school buses. they usually don't get this close to the shore but that's where the food is right now. >> you see the people in the boats? >> that's not a boat.
