there are evacuations in the area. street closures, as well. between sherry and grove way and a stretch of blossom are closed. use a street or lewelling as alternates. we'll follow this for the morning. so we'll continue to give you updates. first here's your monday forecast. >> i hope you guys enjoyed that storm over the weekend. that was fantastic! thank you very much. [ laughter ] >> that was great. now we're cleared out. still patchy fog around the bay area and the valleys. chilly temperatures too. we'll talk about your afternoon forecast, let you know if we're goingwarm things up in a minute. we'll see. we have more storms on the horizon. east bay authorities are looking for two armed robbers who hit two businesses in two cities. >> the first victim the solano drive-in near highway 4 in concord. it was held up shortly before 9 last night. the suspects took cash from the register there, then half an

hour later two suspects robbed a customer and clerk in a store in clayton. they grabbed the customer outside the store and then forced him back inside. suspects wore masks, skeleton gloves from halloween and hoodies. police are looking for a sexual assault suspect on the east side. a 14-year-old girl was walking with a friend on saturday when the men asked to borrow her cell phone at madden avenue. the friend called police when she couldn't find the girl. officers later found the suspect following that girl on a pedestrian bridge but the man got away. police believe the man, who fled, earlier forced the girl into a secluded area on a foot path. pg&e crews will be on the peninsula for days fixing a pipeline that exploded during a test. this happened on the hill above interstate 280 in woodside near farm hill road.

rock, mud and debris closed northbound lanes. after the pipe burst around 3:20 yesterday afternoon. mark sayre on what may have contributed to the rupture. reporter: the pipeline rupture sent mud down the hillside on highway 280 forcing the closure of several lanes. as darkness fell, pg&e crews were at the site of the rupture trying to find what happened on the line which is two feet in diameter. >> we're currently investigating the possibility of third party damage at this rupture location from a backhoe. >> reporter: pg&e has been undertaking a massive testing program throughout its network putting about 150 miles of line through what's called hydrostatic pressure testing. the lines are pressurized with water, in most cases past the maximum rated operating pressure. during one test near bakersfield a line ruptured opening a hole in a field. >> the purpose of the tests is to identify weaknesses in the

lines. >> reporter: pg&e says the line involved in number 132, which is the same line that ruptured in september of last year in san bruno, but the utility remains confident it will be able to supply enough natural gas during the cold winter months. >> we're wrapping up our hydrotesting program this morning. we want to make sure we don't have any lines out of service as winter approaches and cold weather approaches, that's when demand for natural gas increases. so this is one of the final tests we're going to did in the bay area this year. >> reporter: once this rupture is repaired there will be another test before it's cleared to be put back in service. in woodside, mark sayre, cbs 5. a few miles away, along the same pipeline that same testing uncovered what pg&e described as a a pinhole leak. the explosion a few miles away was unrelated. we don't have the time up

so it's about 4:35 -- 4:34. there we go. today faculty at cal state plan to walk out for hours in an echo of the "occupy" movement of they are protesting pay disparities and the so-called 1% running that university. the professors and lecturers will walk out at 10 campuses including san francisco state and sonoma state. a dozen more walkouts are planned for tomorrow including at hayward and san jose state. a nurse is recovering from minor injuries after she was attacked by a patient at the oakland hospital. coworkers who witnessed the attack say it happened on friday at the alta bates summit medical center. it comes as the hospital is in labor negotiations some of which deal with worker safety. >> he pinned her on the bed and choked her and -- [ crying ] >> -- repeatedly hit her in the back of her head. >> in a statement, the hospital said it's being reviewed and

said the safety and well-being of all employees particularly our nurses is of the utmost importance. this morning investigators are searching for the source of a fire had killed five people at a monterey county home for disabled adults. the flames broke out at the mount carmel adult residential facility in the marina about midnight saturday night. someone driving on highway 1 spotted the fire and called 911. >> when they arrived the first thing is rescue. and so they began the rescue, pulled some folks out. >> the facility is registered for six beds. besides the five who died, a sixth resident is in critical condition. two firefighters and the caregivers were treated for smoke inhalation. and street racing is to blame for a crash that killed a 17-year-old boy in richmond. police say two cars were speeding on rain-slickened richmond parkway yesterday morning. both drivers lost control. a bmw flipped and slammed into

a pole killing the driver. police are holding the other driver on suspicion of manslaughter and dui. a man found shot near fisherman's wharf is expected to recover. officers found the man in his 40s lying on a sidewalk near taylor and north point around 6:30 last night. police say he was conscious and breathing but no information is released about this shooting. and one more day of campaigning for the people running for mayor here in san francisco. >> about that time. many will be out early this morning trying to get commuters to vote and all candidates have been campaigning all weekend long. tomorrow is election day in san francisco. the rank choice voting system will be in place. >> see them all along the farmer's market over the weekend. >> the last couple of days. so they are stumping. there is a problem in

unincorporated county in hayward the structure fire is knocked down so it's under control. there are still street closures in the area. our initial reports actually came in that there was some small explosion reported near a liquor store there. were evacuations but again it looks like right now they have it knocked down. now, there are closures near meekland avenue near sherry and grove way. there are street closures near blossom and you want to avoid the area. use a street or lewelling as alternates. here is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza so far, so good heading into san francisco. no metering lights of course yet. so no big problems right now. the golden gate bridge no lane change yet but everything is free-flowing and looks good through marin county. coming up a check of mass transit. lawrence has your forecast. >> things quiet now, things

settling down. all that rain and moisture on the ground from the weekend, ground fog developing outside. that's the main story this morning. watch out for that, some thick toward the napa valley. visibilities there at quarter mile. we are goingclear out pretty nicely throughout the day. temperatures now chilly in spots. you have 36 degrees in santa rosa, 41 concord. 40 livermore and 49 degrees in san francisco. by the afternoon, yeah, these numbers are going to stay cool. they are a good 7 to 9 degrees below average, 50s at the coast. low 60s but lots of sunshine showing up in the bay and also the valleys. we're not done with the chance of rain yet. looks like things settle down through monday, tuesday and wednesday but by thursday, confidence is not high on the storm system but there's a chance of showers on thursday and possibly into veterans day and then over the next weekend, you have some plans? there's another chance we could see some rain. things look like they are getting more active in the weather office these days. back to you guys. >> thank you. a first-of-its-kind in

court today. they are accused of lying to a grand jury and of failing to report an eyewitness account of abuse to authorities. herman cain says he is done answering questions about sexual harassment cases. >> don't go there. that exchange with a reporter follows a republican debate in texas on saturday. cain has denied ever sexually harassing anyone. opponents say he should disclose all the information about the 1990s incidents so the media can focus on more important issues. world markets are down sharply today as greek leaders meet to talk about who will become the country's new prime

minister. last night officials agreed to form an interim government to secure the country's european debt package. prime minister george papandreou has agreed to resign. new elections are expected early next year in greece. police forced them from their campsites so they found a new place to protest. [ chanting ] >> shame on you, shame on you! >> >> "occupy" protestors in southern california decided to relocate to the riverside police station. they say they will stay put until fellow protestors arrested during an earlier eviction are released. nationwide "occupy" wall street protests are attract vendors hoping to make a couple of bucks on the movement. merchandisers are already marketing a wide variety of items including t-shirts and coffee mugs. the u.s. patent and trademark office has received several applications to trademark the word "occupy" and the slogan we are the 99%. >> only a matter of time before

earthquakes over the weekend. they included the strongest , a welcome back. people are shaken up in oklahoma after dozens of earthquakes including the strongest to ever hit oklahoma, 5.6 magnitude. saint gregory's university in central oklahoma is closed because of the damage to its campus. the tremors knocked the tower off the main building. one quake hit during a tv newscast in tulsa. >> we are experiencing another earthquake. it's been going on for several seconds. our studio is shake. you can it shaking right now. think this is our second one in a day and all those aftershocks. >> wow. the quake's epicenter was about 44 miles northeast of oklahoma city. no reports of serious injuries but the damage appears significant. you don't want to hear about this on a monday but there's an asteroid the size of an aircraft carrier hurting toward earth! scientists say no cause for alarm. >> like a quarter mile long but

we don't need to worry. it will come within 200,000 miles of earth tomorrow. but the risk of collision is nonexistent, according to scientists. >> in effect it will be moving straight at us from one direction and go whizzing by away from us in the other direction. >> professional and amateur astronomers will be track the asteroid's approach. it will be visible from the northern hemisphere but will be too dim to be seen by the naked eye. between space junk and asteroids -- >> i'm like, are we going to be here tomorrow? >> we're still hanging out: so is lawrence after a wet weekend. we have some decent weather coming up? >> if you see it, that calculation is off, better run! it's coming in! [ laughter ] >> yeah, we had a stormy at least saturday night into sunday morning. but not a complete washout over the weekend. still we have that moisture

left behind from the storms. and we're seeing fog. valley fog is developing in napa. this afternoon mostly sunny but cool temperatures. highs expected only in the 50s and low 60s. and then we'll start to warm things up a few degrees but temperatures kind of a story this morning as you see a lot of the cool temperatures showing up in the north bay. 36 degrees in santa rosa right now, 37 and fog in the napa valley, 40 and fog in livermore. 50s inside the bay. looks like high pressure is trying to sneak into the bay area slowly today. a lot of the cool air left behind from the system that moved through yesterday morning. but that's going to move on out and this ridge is going to slowly build into the bay area over the next couple of days so our temperatures will be coming up a few degrees. as we get into the latter part of the week, we have a cutoff low that will drop into the bay area and in the meantime we are going to watch temperatures warm up. that will keep us dry through

the middle of the week. numbers in the 50s and 60s in the south bay. inland a lot of green on the screen will kind fairly cool highs generally in the low 60s and as you get inside the bay highs in the 50s and low 60s by the afternoon. so a cool day but it's goingstay dry. just have to get through some of the fog this morning. then it will be warmer toward tuesday and wednesday. but then toward thursday, that's when it gets iffy. a cutoff low will spin off the coastline. timing on that is very difficult. chance of showers thursday and on veterans. that's an inside slider. they are lining up, not massive or ominous but could be wet later this part of the week. >> neither is the asteroid. >> we'll see. >> hopefully that won't be an inside slider. >> let's check traffic. >> for a while streets blocked

off near hayward. looks like the fire is under control. first towards the peninsula, show you what's going on there. we have a little bit of roadwork up and down 101. sounds like the embarcadero road off-ramp may be shut down until about 6:00 according to caltrans. also at ralston various on- and off-ramps shut down as well so again most of our overnight roadwork should be wrapping up within the next hour or so. in the meantime down towards the south bay looks good heading out of downtown san jose. a few headlights there on northbound 280 towards cupertino and your bridges are problem-free, as well. san mateo bridge overall off to a nice start on this monday morning westbound 92 looks okay should be a 13, 14-minute drive time out of hayward toward foster city but you mention the structure fire this was first reported very early this morning and it sounds like there are still street closures in the area even though they have the fire knocked down. the initial reports were it was there in a liquor store. there were some evacuations for a while. meekland avenue remains shut down between cherry way and

grove way. so in the meantime just use a street or lewelling boulevard while fire crews are still putting out the hotspots. here's a live look at 880 through oakland. everything is breezing past the coliseum, overstock.com, 15 minutes between 238 and the macarthur maze. southbound looks okay. milpitas, live look near 880/237. you can see 237 traffic out of milpitas towards san jose where everything looks good so far. promised you a mass transit check. everything is on time for bart, ace, muni and caltrain and your ferries. remember kcbs once you do hit the roads. they're our radio partners. and you can find them at 740-am and 106.9-fm. that's traffic. back to you. >> thank you. and there is a new way to market health insurance that is kicking off in san francisco today. blue shield will open up shop inside the lucky's supermarket on fulton. it wants to offer customers a chance to speak with agents face to face. this will be the first insurance company in california

to open inside a retail store. two bay area members of congress found out what it was like to live on a food stamp budget. congresswoman jackie speier of san mateo and barbara lee were among eight lawmakers who took part in the challenge. they lived on a food stamp budget of $4.50 a day. jackie speier says the food stamp budget is facing drastic cuts from the federal budget and the current amount is not adequate. >> we cannot tolerate this huge gap that is being created and we cannot become a compassionless society in which we denigrate and demonize the poor. >> she said she ate a lot of eggs and tuna fish and went to bed hungry every night. >> that cat that turned up recently at jfk airport after being missing for two months has been euthanized. jack the cat had been checked into a cargo area of a plane

heading back here it california. san jose was his home. he was lost in the chaos because of the hurricane irene. a veterinarian said jack had infections and wounds that wouldn't heal because of his skin that had deteriorated so much from malnutrition. that's too bad. a memorial service is planned now for legendary writer and "60 minutes" icon andy rooney. >> he died friday just weeks after his final essay appeared on the news magazine. >> i don't know anything offhand that mystifies americans more than the cotton they put in pill bottles. why do they do it? >> check the size of those things. they not only puff the wheat, they puff the blueberries. >> there's no doubt about it. dogs are nicer than people. weeks later -- >> i know. >> he had surgery and died. he was fun. >> very fun. there is a white fir tree from california that's going to washington, d.c. the national christmas tree on the west lawn at the u.s. capital. the trunk of the 6 story high tree was chopped over the weekend. cranes prevented it from making a crash-landing there. then it was laid down gently on an 87-foot flatbed long truck. >> it's a great honor once in a lifetime opportunity. it's something that hasn't been done ever on the stanislaus only the fourth time that california had the tree so it's huge. we're over the top excited about it. >> that tree now making a two- week journey to the east coast stopping off in several states along the way. once it arrives in washington it will be decorated with over 10,000 lights. >> ken bastida did a story on the tree. they wouldn't show him the exact tree. it's a secret.
