chp still has an advisory on some of the bridges and roads so they are still in effect for most of the bridges across the bay area including at the bay bridge toll plaza but like lawrence said hopefully these winds are dying down so it shouldn't be as much of as an issue. >> i got the song. england dan and [ indiscernible ] >> not sure. >> that means you're old. >> let's move on. it is 4:32 now. protestors from "occupy sf" are on edge this morning after a heated confrontation with the police last night. this morning, some campers are still refusing the city's offer to move to another site. anne makovec is at justin herman plaza with what's next. >> reporter: there is a lot of tension here at justin herman plaza. the camp you can see remains here behind me. some remained, some were ready

to move when police advanced on the camp last night. this was the scene around 5 p.m. when police began encircling the barricades and some demonstrators tried to shove the barricades back as you can see. police say they were only trying to create a safety zone and clear sidewalks. >> the last thing we want is a confrontation. we were trying to create a safety zone when we were attacked. it gives us a sense of how violent the police left in the camp are. >> reporter: several walked to the federal reserve building an sat down in the middle of market street and stayed for a little over an hour and then came back to camp. the proposal is still on the table here. the city is offering to move these campers to an alternate site at 16th and mission. but the problem with the people that do want to move there is that they need a consensus with everybody. that's the whole theory with this general assembly and if one person says no, that means

the issue is tabled. no action is taken, they stay here at the plaza, and police still threatening to move in. it really is a precarious situation. >> going to be hard to get consensus. in an exclusive cbs 5 surveyusa poll, most people in san francisco are unhappy with the way mayor lee is handling the situation. coming up at 6:00 we are speaking with mayor ed lee about "occupy sf" and what happens next. "occupy" protestors in santa cruz are showing no signs of leaving a former bank building that they took over. 20 to 30 people broke into the river street bank building wanting to turn it into a

community center. >> it's a perfect place for this particular movement to have a location at a bank that is owned by a multinational corporation that is not providing any benefit to our community. >> police are offering no timeline on when they will go in and remove the protestors. yesterday, officers posted signs on the building declaring that any trespassers are violating state law. there's been an arrest in the fatal shooting of a man near the "occupy oakland" encampment last month. the shooting suspect was traced to lexington, kentucky, where he has relatives. he was arrested on sunday. an atherton woman claims her car keys were stolen by a man impersonating a police officer. the suspect's dark colored vehicle is described as having a removable flashing blue light. police telling the daily news it's possibly a honda civic. the woman said the suspect appeared to be filipino with a

buttoned down navy shirt, shiny belt buckle and lace-up boots. she said the man pulled her over wednesday evening near atherton and alayna avenues. she says he asked some unusual questions including if she had anything illegal or edible in her car. powerful winds have left behind damage all over the western u.s. causing fires, accidents as well as power outages. here are the latest numbers of customers without power in the bay area and santa cruz county: ill without powe a wind-fueled fire destroyed a in livermore and spread to two others. fortunately ev a webbed-fueled fire destroyed a home in livermore spread to two others, as well. fortunately, everyone got out safely. elsewhere, there was no bart service south of hayward for about two hours yesterday. that's because of this a train hitting a downed tree or branches that fell on the

tracks. trains were blocked until 1 p.m. the winds tore through the sierra foothills one of the most frightening scenes a giant tree crashing into a dentist's office in twain harte. one of the dentists said he didn't know what was happening when the tree hit. >> felt like an earthquake. it came down and then i think it bounced because you felt it kind of twice and then you heard some screaming and -- and we realized, you know, people were saying, call 911. >> there were about 20 people inside. no one was hurt. 4:37. southern california is cleaning up from one of the worst wind storms in a decade and now there's a state of emergency in l.a. county. pasadena residents are assessing the damage this morning. that's after santa ana winds came blowing in knocking down trees on homes and businesses there. downed power lines left at least 350,000 people in the dark. and more wind problems outside of california. one gust tore apart this fence.

look at that. this is salt lake city near -- a home video camera was rolling as a grill came flying over the back porch. strong winds approaching 100 miles per hour blew through the state causing problems for drivers. power outages affected about 50,000 customers there. that wind no joke but seems to be dying down. >> and it's warm, too. >> we're not going back to the song again, are we? this hour, 61 in san jose, 60 in livermore but a cool 49 degrees in the concord area. by the afternoon, we're looking at some 60s and 70s by the afternoon as the winds calm down. a lot of warm air left behind with the offshore wind and looks like the weekend is pretty good, although windy saturday. temperatures cooling off on the weekend, dry. cloudy and cooler temperatures toward the middle of next week. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic now with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. >> even though the winds are dying down, chp has their own separate advisories that they put out for bridges and roads. and you will still notice that caltrans still has warning signs up on most of the bridges across the bay area including the bay bridge toll plaza. they issued them around 12:30 a.m. so hopefully won't be that much of an issue this morning as yesterday. the gusts are blowing along all across the span. i can feel it as well crossing the bridge yesterday. so westbound 580 out of the altamont pass looks okay so far no brake lights at all, through livermore and towards the

department will release its monthly job reports. exists economists are projecting a better-than-october projection but not enough to change the unemployment rate nationwide. the economy is growing slowly but not enough to spur aggressive hiring. the senate voted down two proposals to extend a payroll tax cut due to expire in the end of december. both parties want an extension but they disagree over how to pay for it. democrats want to raise taxes on the rich, republicans would like to freeze federal salaries and cut government jobs. san jose mayor chuck reed called off next week's city council vote on whether to declare a fiscal emergency. here's the reason. new projections for the costs of employee pensions. the revised numbers could cut the city's $80 million deficit by more than half next year. mayor reed told the "mercury news" that this could prevent

the closures of libraries and community centers we have been hearing about. he still wants a pension reform in the ballot but likely in june rather than march. state lawmakers are turning in the keys to your cars. a decades old promise that provides state representatives with taxpayer funded vehicles is over. the plan could backfire because lawmakers are going to reimbursed 55 cents a mile for using their personal cars. >> if you drive 20,000 miles, that's $10,000 a year. >> reporter: it won't save money. >> they should have check it before they made the bill. >> the plan could cost up to a million dollars a year. the cost before was only $750,000. not so good math there. honda is expanding a worldwide airbag recall due to risk for injuries or death after a crash. the company announced the recall today which affects a

number of their cars. the accord, civic, odyssey, pilot, crv, and some other models released since 2008. the japanese automaker says the air bags may inflate with too much pressure in a collision. honda reports 20 accidents related to the problem including two deaths here in the united states in 2009. general motors now says it will buy back chevy volts from drivers worried about a problem with the car's batteries. the national highway traffic safety administration has launched a formal investigation into the all-electric volt. that's after volt batteries unexpectedly caught fire. the move comes with gm's move this week to offer loaner cars until the safety concerns are resolved. herman cain in the news again at the heart of the heart of the future of the campaign. what he didn't tell his wife. that's coming up.

the formal transfer of camp victory happened one of the last military bases in iraq is in the hands of iraq. the formal transfer of camp victory was attended by vice president joe biden yesterday. it had been the military headquarters in iraq originally a country club up saddam hussein. herman cain will be back home today. cain has been saying he wants to talk with his wife gloria

before deciding on the future of his presidential campaign. cain denies a 13-year affair and his wife says she knew nothing about his friendship with this woman. he denies all the charges. the allegations have hurt his poll numbers and ability to raise money for the campaign. a utah hunter will probably be the butt of a lot of jokes thanks to his dog. robert went duck hunting with his son, brother-in-law an eager english labrador, piper. they shot down a bird. that's when piper jumps on the boat on to a shotgun setting it off. the man and a duck decoy were caught in the blast. his son called 911 for help. >> where did he get shot at? >> he got shot in the butt. >> in the butt? >> yes, in the buttocks. >> awkward. >> in the buttocks.

folks. if you are heading out you will see the winds calming down a bit. still breezy in spots and we have a few high clouds overhead but otherwise mostly clear skies and temperatures are very mild around most of the bay area this morning. numbers up into the 50s and the 60s. by the afternoon, we'll enjoy some sunshine. it will be breezy at times. but a little less wind and the temperatures warming upper 60s even a couple of low 70s by the afternoon. so i think high pressure still remaining overhead. it will likely build in. there's another weak wave that's going to drop over the top of this ridge towards saturday. that's probably going to reamplify the winds towards saturday nothing like over the past couple of days. sunny in store, breezy towards saturday afternoon. otherwise we are looking good. traveling around the state breezy conditions in the high country 40s and 50s up there. into the central valley no fog 58 degrees sunny in fresno 64 sacramento. and about 69 in ukiah. temperatures nice in the

afternoon around the bay area. 67 milpitas, 65 palo alto, 69 in mountain view. east bay sunshine and wind starting to break down just a bit. 56 in livermore, 67 -- 65 in livermore, 67 in pleasanton, and inside the bay sunny skies 69 oakland, 65 degrees in san francisco. next couple of days we are going to see plenty of sunshine coming our way again a little breezy toward saturday afternoon as those winds will pick up and calming back down into sunday staying dry and sunny through monday. cloudy and cooler middle of next week. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic now with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. chp is driving the bridges now checking them to see whether these wind advisories are really necessary. but for now we still have wind advisories in place for most of the bridges even though as lawrence said it looks like they are dying down. traffic exceedingly like at the golden gate bridge. a few cars, but for right now

things look great across the span northbound and southbound 101. in the meantime westbound 580 as you get closer to the dublin interchange, this is towards tassajara. both directions look great. your drive time out of the altamont pass still only about 15 minutes. so quick trip all the way through livermore. in the south bay we are not seeing much roadwork out there so coming out of downtown san jose a couple of headlights. you can see them there approaching the 880 interchange. so not too bad of a drive time there. westbound 237 for silicon valley commuters if you are leaving 880 milpitas around the bend, it actually looks nice towards san jose approaching zanker road. there is a little bit of roadwork in the east bay through danville the usual stretch. should be wrapping up by 5:00 but we are seeing slowing on our sensors just through danville northbound and southbound 680. and a quick check of the ride along the peninsula, 101 and 280 both fine this morning. there is some roadwork by the way on the dumbarton bridge. back to you. >> thank you. a jury has cleared johannes

mehserle and four other bart police officers of using excessive force against a passenger three years ago. the passenger said mehserle and the others kicked an punched him and arrested him. the incident took place weeks before mehserle fatally shot oscar grant on new year's day. bart says the verdict shows its officers acted properly. bart is now the first public transit agency in the country to place limits on blackouts of cell phone service. the board voted yesterday to prohibit blackouts unless there is a quote extraordinary threat that woken danger passenger safety. bart sparked outrage when it killed cell service in august at 4 san francisco stations because of a planned protest. it's the battle of the french fries. burger king is revamping its recipe for the first time since 1998. the new fries will be a little thicker just a tad wider than a number 2 pencil have 20% less sodium and will be crisper and stay hotter longer thanks to a
