thinks he should be reelected and why he doesn't think the american people will buy into the republican argument. the president spoke with correspondent steve kroft. >> reporter: why do you think you deserve to be reelected? what have you accomplished? >> not only saving this country from a great depression, not only saving the auto industry, but putting in place a system in which we're going to start lowering health care costs and you're never going to go bankrupt because you get sick or somebody in your family gets sick, making sure that we have reformed the financial system so we never again have taxpayer funded bailouts and the system is more stable and secure, ending don't ask, don't tell, decimating al qaeda, including bin laden being taken off the field, and when it comes to the economy, we've got a lot more work to do, and we're going to keep on at it. >> susan mcginnis is in washington with more.

guven, soom susan, good morning. >> hi, terrell. >> reporter: the president spoke very frankly with cbs news about all of the republican contenders. meanwhile, that gop field is looking more like it's down to two. >> ending don't ask, don't tell. >> reporter: president obama listed the reasons why he should be reelected in an exclusive interview with cbs' "60 minutes." >> we did all of the right things to prevent a great depression and to get the economy growing again and to get job creation going again. >> reporter: he defended his economic policies, but wasn't surprised that a new cbs news poll shows 54% of americans don't believe he deserves another term. >> they shouldn't feel satisfied. we've got a lot more work to do in order to get this country and the economy moving in a way that benefits everybody. >> reporter: as for the republicans vying for his job, the president insists they all have the same agenda, tax cuts for the wealthy and weaker

regulations. >> the contrast and visions between where i want to take the country and where they say they the to take the country is going to be stark. >> reporter: with the first votes in the gop race now three weeks away, newt gingrich campaigns in new hampshire today, not far from mitt romney, who is facing new criticism. >> there's a section called -- >> reporter: some accuse the former massachusetts governor of being out of touch after proposing a pricey wager at this weekend's debate. >> rick, i tell you what, 10,000 bucks? 10,000 dollar bet. >> reporter: romney tried to laugh off the controversy sunday, quoting his wife. >> she said a lot of things you do well. betting isn't one of them. >> reporter: but romney is betting on new hampshire. he holds a solid lead there, although gingrich is gaining ground. now, the president talked about a wide range of issues, terrell, that whole interview is available on our website at cbsnews.com. >> the other candidates went after newt gingrich in the debate? how did that play out?

>> he was under relentless from the start. they called him a peddler and talked about his infidelity and marriage and supporting the obama health care. he defended himself and he came back, attacking them back and admitted to his failings and said he has had to ask god's forgiveness for certain things. i really think his strong suit is remaining cool under attack. another debate this thursday in iowa. >> susan mcginnis in washington this morning, thank you. occupy wall street protesters say they will try to shut down ports today up and down the west coast from los angeles to vancouver. early last month, thousands of protesters were able to shut down the port of oakland overnight. the demonstrators are rallying against what they say are unfair working conditions, but they don't have the support of the long shoremen's union. deriek crouse who was killed last week on the university of campus thursday will be buried today. hundreds paid their respects yesterday. crouse was gunned down on the university campus thursday. police say 22-year-old ross truitt ashley shot crouse and

then took his own life. crouse and ashley didn't apparently know each other. ashley's motive remains a mystery. memphis police are investigating allegations of sexual abuse against the long time president and chief executive of the amateur athletic association, the aau. the allegations against bobby dodd date back to the 1980s. two men told espn that dodd molested them when they were boys, between the ages of 12 and 16, while they stayed at hotels tournament tournaments. >> he had a key. he always somehow had a key to whatever room i was in, because that was his m.o. was coming in in the middle of the night when you're asleep and trying to assault you. >> the aau, one of the biggest volunteer sports organizations in this country, has also launched an investigation. dodd is currently on medical leave and the aau and says he will not return to his job. former penn state football coach joe paterno is hospitalized with a broken pelvis. he fell at his home on saturday and reinjuring the broken pelvis he suffered in august when he was hit by one of his players during practice.

paterno was fired by penn state following allegations of sexual abuse involving one of his former assistants jerry sandusky. a key prosecution witness in the case is expected to testify tomorrow. anna werner reports. >> reporter: former penn state assistant coach mike mcqueary is among those expected to testify tuesday. mcqueary told a grand jury that in 2002, he saw jerry sandusky in a locker room shower on the penn state campus sexually assaulting a young boy. >> mr. sandusky, any comments? >> reporter: according to the grand jury report, he saw a boy he estimated to be 10 years old with his hands up against the wall being raped by a naked sandusky. but a local newspaper report raised new questions about whether mcqueary may have told a different story back then. "the harrisburg patriot news" quoting a source says after the incident, mcqueary went to his father's home where a family

friend, dr. jonathan dranov, was also present. the newspaper said dranov reportedly said at the time mcqueary heard sex sounds and saw a young boy stick his head around the corner and an adult arm reach around and pull the boy back. the paper said dranov told grand jurors he asked mcqueary several times if he saw anything sexual and several times mcqueary said no. at dranof's home, a woman to comment. >> we're not opening the door. good-bye! >> reporter: dranov's account could be important for former penn state administrators tim curley and schultz. they claim when mcqueary told them about the incident, he did not report seeing actual sexual activity. lawyers for the two men said the new information would be powerful exculpatory evidence and the charges against our clients should be dismissed. mcqueary denied comment. anna werner, cbs news, state college, pennsylvania. take a quick break on a

1% and other markets were also higher. today, wall street gets the latest data on the deficits. stocks are trying to extend last week's rally. the dow finished up almost 1.5%, while the nasdaq gained just shy of 1%. today is expected to be the busiest shipping day of the year. fedex alone will move 17 million packages today. that's 10% more than last year. they and other big shipping companies have added a record number of seasonal workers to handle the load. it's all because of the best holiday shopping season in years and it's all about to get even better. today is green monday. the start of the busiest week for online shopping as consumers rush to make sure they can get their holiday gifts delivered on time. so far, cybersales are up 15% this year and totaling nearly $25 billion. meanwhile, brick and mortar retailer lowe's is coming under fire for pulling its ads from a reality tv show. the show all american muslim follows the lives of five

only in the teens and 20s in the plains. in sports this morning, the new york giants ended a four-game losing streak to keep their playoff hopes alive. it came down to the final seconds. to arlington, texas. giants quarterback eli manning led a fourth quarter comeback and giants take the lead over the cowboys with a touchdown and a two-point conversion. dallas on the verge of tying the game when new york's jason pierre-paul blocked a field goal attempt. the giants 37-34 win puts them in first place in the nfc east. boy, oh, boy, oh, boy. they are now 7-6. a thrilling game there. in denver, broncos quarterback tim tebow got another comeback win down 10-0 with barely two minutes to play. he led two scoring drives to tie the game in an overtime. denver's matt prater killed a field goal to beat the bears 13-10. the 8-5 broncos now in sole possession of first place in the afc west. in green bay, packers quarterback aaron rodgers threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns.

pack beat the oakland raiders 46-16. packers pushed their undefeated season to 13-0. they are just one win away from locking up home field advantage in the playoffs. in baseball, national league mvp ryan braun is planning to appeal a positive drug test for performance-enhancing drug. the milwaukee brewers outfielder purportedly tested positive for elevated testosterone. but he is appealing. lamar odom has been traded to the nba champion dallas mavericks for a first round draft pick and giving the mavs a second round pick. odom won the sixth man of the year award last season. and eight college basketball players have been suspended after one of the worst on-court brawls in history. in the closing seconds of saturday's game between xavier and cincinnati, a bench clearing fight erupted. the brawl prompted the referees to call the game with nine seconds left on the clock.

online holiday sales are up 15% this year. a research group says americans have spent $24.6 billion so far this season. and this week, beginning today with green monday, it's expected to be the busiest of all for online retailers. now to a story about two beer loving brothers, they don't just love beer, they make it too. and like other independent brewers across the country, they have seen sales rise like the head on a good beer. elaine quijano reports. >> reporter: like millions of beer drinkers in america, john troegner and his younger brother chris discovered in college they really enjoyed beer. >> not just drinking the beer, but what is behind the beer, the history in the beer and where these flavors came from and where we thought we could take them. >> reporter: so they started their own brewery in harrisburg, pennsylvania. they played it safe, making beers based on business plans. but safe didn't sell. >> we were about five years into it. we was almost like if we're going to go down, let's have fun doing it, so we started doing beers that we really loved.

we weren't thinking about what would sell well and we started having fun. >> reporter: that saved them. their customers loved the new beers and, by 2008, they had reached a tipping point. >> we couldn't make more beer but we had the orders coming in. >> reporter: so at the height of the recession, troegs decided to expand. they hired sales reps and have watched their market grow since. now they are moving their award-winning brewery into a plant three times larger. >> we're definitely nervous. we have a lot of sleepless nights. today is a special day where we are trying to get our new batch through the brew house sale and we're tweaking everything as fast as we can to make sure everything goes well. >> reporter: the expansion means growing from about 50 to 70 employees. already troegs have found a formula has eluded other businesses how to grow jobs in a recession. according to industry figures, they and their fellow craft brewers are responsible for employing 100,000 people. elaine quijano, cbs news, harrisburg, pennsylvania
